At age fifteen, Sam "Mozart" Reed's life changed the day his little sister was found abused and murdered. Since her death, he's spent his life hunting for the serial killer who took his sister from him and ruined his family. Using his connections, and SEAL training, Mozart believes he's finally tracked the killer to the town of Big Bear, California.
Summer Pack is working in a crappy motel up at Big Bear Lake until she can find something better, more meaningful, more real. While living in an unhealthy situation, she meets a man who is everything she's ever dreamed about and who helps her see that there are some people in the world who will actually do what they say they will and keep their word.
But somewhere in Big Bear is a killer waiting to strike again. Waiting and watching for the perfect victim.
**Protecting Summer is the 4th book in the SEAL of Protection Series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but it's recommended you read the books in order to get maximum enjoyment out of the series.
New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author, Susan Stoker has a heart as big as the state of Tennessee where she lives, but this all American girl has also spent the last fourteen years living in Missouri, California, Colorado, Indiana, and Tennessee. She's married to a retired Army man who now gets to follow her around the country.
I love this series. The sense of family that Susan builds into her characters makes you wish you could hang out with them. You can actually feel the love and support they have for each other as you're reading this book. When their men are on a mission, the support system the women have developed amongst themselves is a beautiful thing to see. In this book we learn Mozart is still struggling with the loss of his little sister. While it happened years ago, he's never gotten closure since the man was never arrested for the murder. While following a lead on the man he believes is responsible, he meets Summer. There is an instant attraction, yet Mozart needs to get back to his team and Summer has been dealing with her own struggles. Mozart knows there could be something special between them, but he's scared, so he fights it in true Mozart style. You'll have to read the book to find out what happens next. I highly recommend this whole series and can't wait to read the remaining books. I honestly count down until the release of the next one. This series is an automatic buy for me and has made me a devoted Susan Stoker fan.
***Wow, I love a Susan Stoker story!! *** I loved Fiona and I loved Summer in this book. Summer is down on her luck, with no one who cares for her, working at a crappy motel. Mozart comes to town, keeping a low profile by staying at the motel, to find a psycho he's been tracking. His sister was killed by this guy and Mozart needs to get the psycho man off the planet.
This is a truly wonderful romance packed with action, suspense, and compassion. Summer stands up for scarred Mozart against some mean women, and she has made a friend with this SEAL. He is drawn to her sweetness and her sassy side, too. After seeing her with Mozart, the psycho tags Summer as his next victim.
Very entertaining and tough to put down, you will love this story as much as I did. It unfolds beautifully, and they finally get to have their hot sex near the end.
I look forward to more of this author's tales, and Duke and Cheyenne are next. E N J O Y !!!
Another protective alpha, a pretty but down on her luck heroine and a bad guy who brings danger to the story. I liked Sam and Summer. This was a bit of a shorty so there wasn't a whole lot that happened but when the bad guy did show up, there were some pretty uncomfortable scenes. I struggle a bit when the bad stuff happens detail by detail in a book. Thankfully it wasn't as bad as it could have been, and didn't last as long as it could have.
The story starts off a little sketchy at first but I can suspend my disbelief to just go with it. What I mean is Summer is an older woman at thirty six, well educated, but got stuck in a bad place she doesn't belong in. She was married and her husband left her for another woman because their marriage was comfortable. They obviously didn't marry for love but for stability, neither deceived the other. I don't blame her ex husband and I don't blame her because they were both adults, knew what they were getting into, and he didn't cheat. He came home, told her he met someone and asked for a divorce, which she honored. They both handled themselves and the situation well. The problem was that the divorce apparently left her with nothing. Even if she was well off before she lost her job, I find it hard to believe she wouldn't at least file for spousal support just in case. She's a smart woman, they led a comfortable life, and she's entitled to half of what's his. So I don't understand how she was left with a crap car that broke down on her, no bank account savings, no alimony to help support her, and a mortgage that was also in her ex husbands name and half of his responsibility. That was questionable but for the sake of the plot I could let it go but it still bugged me.
Nosy Caroline once again judges a girl she doesn't even know. If she used her little brain and stopped being such a stuck up judgmental b*tch, she'd notice that Sam was making an effort to drive elsewhere simply to visit a girl which should have tipped her off that this wasn't just a hookup girl but again she's pretty slow and just a plain mean girl to anyone that has a vagina.
I also didn't like how Sam completely took over Summer's life and forced all these things and people on her. She wasn't great but she was surviving before he came into her life. She would have survived if he'd never gone back or without the other girls. Summer is said to be an independent woman but yet not once did she put her foot down and tell him he's going too far or enough is enough. I found it hard to believe that after taking control of everything else in her life (blackmailing the manager to put her in a cabin, buying her food, clothes, and household things for when he was gone, making her promise she'll call every single one of his friends should she need anything) he supposedly knew that asking her to move with him back home was going too far because she's "too independent." Sorry, not buying it. Later on, I found out the writer simply used that as a plot device to keep Summer there for a big showdown otherwise he totally would have told her to go with him and her being the independent woman she is would immediately agree of course.
When Sam is leaving her for the first time as a couple, he asks Caroline to call her to talk to her and even goes as far to say if she doesn't call Summer it'd destroy her...so apparently Summer not receiving a call from a girl she doesn't even know is going to break down into depression?...yeah...ok. And what is up with these girls always thinking the worst of each other and giving out "don't hurt him" warnings? First Caroline, now Fiona given she went about in a nicer way but still. What ever happened to girls sticking together and welcoming each other into their circle? Why is every new girl introduced, viewed as a potential heartbreaker with a secret agenda in these books?! If any of my boyfriend's friends or family had ever done that to me, I would have told them straight up for your information I don't play games, you'd know that if you gave me a chance before judging me, my relationship with him is not yours to oversee, I'm the girlfriend not you, so back the f*ck off.
The torture that Summer witnessed was horrifying and I hate to even think about it again. But I feel like her reaction was unnatural. She was there and clearly knew what was going on but her way of blocking it out was to replace it with memories of Mozart. I guess it's possible and might vary depending on the person with how they deal when placed in that kind of situation. Maybe it's just me. Her head is filled with thoughts of Mozart is gonna save her, reminiscing of their time together, how much she loved him and that it didn't scare her. She was so confident he'd able to find her and it never even crossed her mind that he just might not find her in general or in enough time or even the possibility that she was gonna die. I can't imagine being able to think anything other than he's gonna kill me, I'm gonna die, what is he gonna do to me, when is he gonna start my torture, no one knows where I am. It never occurred to her that he could kill her at any point while she was daydreaming. I expected to see her completely traumatized and paranoid after all that and it showed a little but it didn't deliver as it should have.
It's weird because this writer can write very gritty and hard to read scenes of torture and physical pain that feel so real and disturbing but she can't put that same skill in emotional healing and realistic heroes that will show patience and understanding for a traumatized woman. The women in these books go through something terrifying and life changing but other than a little quirk that wasn't present before but other than that they seem totally fine and unaffected as long as their man is there to hold them. They seem to be completely ok after a couple sessions of therapy that we don't get to see and we're told that they still have nightmares sometimes but otherwise if you didn't personally know them you'd never know it because they never show any after effects. If the writer took the same natural talent in writing action and "dark themed" scenes and put that same style towards developing her characters before and after a bad experience she'd have a REALLY GOOD book. Another let down and I'm running out of hope.
*Side note* I find it hard to understand how Fiona could say that she's glad she went through what she did because she got Hunter in the end. But I found it even more disturbing to hear her say if poor Avery hadn't died, Summer would never have found Sam. That is NOT something I'd think Sam would appreciate hearing about his little sister. I think I also lost all respect for Fiona in this book.
From the very beginning of this series I have been smitten with Mozart, the cheeky, hot playboy of the team and after reading Protecting Summer that crush has turned into full-blown love.
Once again, Stoker has delivered a wonderful book filled with love, drama, friendship, suspense and panty dropping hotness. With his devilish good looks, smooth talk and heart of gold, Mozart is sure to have you swooning on EVERY page!. I seriously did not want to put this book down and if I hadn’t had to take the kids to school (believe me, I tried to get out of it) it would not have left my hands for a second. I am that addicted to this series and these characters.
Mozart has been haunted with the knowledge that the bastard that murdered his little sister 14 years ago is still roaming around somewhere. For years he has used every resource available to him to try and track down Hurst but to date has had no luck, always just missing him. So when Tex finds trace of him and sends Mozart out to the small mountain town of Big Bear Lakes, he isn’t holding much hope that the Hurst will still be around. As prepared as Mozart is to try to find his sister killer, he is not prepared for the gorgeous, shy maid who is cleaning his room.
After a failed marriage left her homeless, jobless and poor, Summer Pack found herself a million miles away from her old life living in near poverty and cleaning rooms at a dump of a motel in Big Bear Lakes. But instead of wallowing in her circumstances, Summer is just thankful to have a job and a roof over her head, even if said roof is really just an outdoor storage shed and is cold as hell, it is still somewhere to sleep. From the moment the ruggedly handsome, well-built and extremely intimidating Mozart enters her life Summer begins feeling things she has never felt before and finds herself equally thrilled and terrified.
As Mozart struggles to reconcile his feelings and work out exactly what he wants from Summer, he finds himself completely torn. He has dedicated his life to hunting down his sister’s killer and doesn’t have time for any distractions, let alone falling in love. But the more time he spends with this kind, gentle woman the more he finds himself falling irrevocably in love with her.
What they don't realise is that as the pair begin finding love, comfort and happiness in each other, someone else is watching them with the sole intent to destroy their new found love. Will Mozart and his team be able to save Summer from the same fate as his little sister or will Mozart lose another woman he loves and couldn't protect?
Summer was such a sweet character and it broke my heart when you saw what her life had been reduced to, but she was never a victim and was always thankful for what she had. She was such a genuinely kind, selfless, sweet and caring character that from the very first interaction between the pair you can’t help but love her. She was the perfect match for Mozart. They were able to fill the voids in each other’s lives and hearts.
Mozart was another perfect ”Stoker Man”, he was a total alpha-babe and had the perfect blend cockiness, charm, humour, sincerity, sexiness and heart. He was fiercely possessive and protective but also compassionate and supportive.
One of my favourite things about this series is the wonderful ensemble cast. As always the unwavering friendship, loyalty and support between the team and the girls shines brightly and warms your heart. It was lovely to see a bit more interaction between the woman this time and I must admit I find it hard to believe Caroline was ever shy or self-conscious! Wolf has certainly brought her out of her shell, but hey, I’m sure being his “woman” would make anyone feel empowered!.
Stoker’s writing style has a way of drawing me in from the very beginning, has me on the edge of my seat all the way through and leaves me begging for more when it is all over. She incorporates a wonderful blend of love, action, drama, passion and humour to create a wonderful and highly addictive story.
If you are a fan of alpha-hotties, Navy Seals, Sweet Heroines, Insta-love and hot friends I would suggest checking out the SEAL of Protection Series, you will not be disappointed.
Quote Highlight “I’m sorry it took me so long. I’ll always come for you, Sunshine.”
“I know how that makes me sound, but please believe me. You’ve crawled inside me and won’t leave. I don’t want you to leave.”
“No, I’m here for you. No other reason. There’ll come a time when you won’t doubt my feelings for you. I see you and get hard. I smell you and get hard. Hell, I think about you and get hard. No, I’m here for you, Sunshine.”
Another great narration. I forgot though how slightly graphic the kidnapping/torture scenes were and hearing them in audio was really a bit much for me.
Summer and Mozart. Same formula as the other stuff I've read by this author. An h with low self esteem and down on her luck. Insta love/lust. Rescue from sexually depraved villain. It filled the time. Mozart is the 'Romeo' of the group. Always the ladies and only for one night... until Summer. He has scars on his face that have put a crimp on his 'Game' but not really. I did like how he was with Summer after rescuing her. The author was sensitive to how a person would be after surviving an ordeal like that. Mozart is out to prove that she is more to him than a quick f*ck. I thought he went a little overboard with it but, whatever.
One niggling thing bothered me about when they FINALLY get together
Protecting Summer is an incredibly captivating and beautifully touching story of accepting all that life brings your way. There are times when we are on top of the world and feel as if nothing could possibly go wrong. Other times, we are lower than the dirt under our feet where crawling uphill feels like we are falling even deeper into a pit that will never see the light of day. Both types of situations mold our life and influence us to become who we are supposed to be and lead us on the path that has been made destined for us. While the bad is always hard to bear, it makes the good that much sweeter, brighter, precious then it would normally be if our life was all happiness and fluffy bunnies. It is this balance that allows us to appreciate the small, priceless things in life that can never be replaced.
Summer had a good life until it wasn’t good any longer. She lost a lot more than just her husband and her job in a short span of time, and she was at a loss as to how to make this downward spiral stop. Left with few choices, she decided to move in order to improve her situation, and what she found was more than she could handle or comprehend. Mozart is a Navy SEAL who was getting restless with his life being spent on a solitary mission of avenging his sister’s death. That was his sole reason for living and everything else was just a physical and emotional necessity. Wanting more than just watching his life pass his by one year after another, but not knowing how to change things, he continues on in his life-long promise. Out of nowhere he is sidelined by the only other woman who has ever touched his stone cold heart and turned his world upside down. Will he push her away and continue with this obsession, or will he allow himself to finally start living a life that he has secretly desired?
Summer and Mozart were such amazing characters that pushed their way into my heart and made their home there. They were so beautiful together, and they needed each other more than they understood or would admit. For once Mozart truly understood what it meant to help those in need and to allow them to touch you as much as you touch them. His heart warmed and came alive from Summer opening her heart to him and allowing him to be her rescuer and hero. Watching with wonder as they realized the other was the missing piece of their soul, they decided to take a chance and allow themselves to be open to love and all the good things that it brings to your life. I loved watching these two transform the life of the other until they couldn’t even imagine going back to the way things used to be. It would be inconceivable and unthinkable.
I have been hoping to read one of Susan Stoker’s SEAL books for a while now because they sounded so good, and I am very grateful to have been given the opportunity. Stoker’s writing flows like sweet nectar of the gods, and it touches the deepest parts of your heart. Never once was I disappointed, and my expectations were thoroughly exceeded! The series sounds truly amazing, and all of the characters that I have met have such depth and heart that I will never forget them. If you are looking for an outstanding story that will renew your faith in humanity and show you that true and honest people do exist, then you don’t want to miss out on this astounding book.
I'm in love! Mozart is my absolute favourite SEAL. I was putty melting right there on the spot. I couldn't get enough of him. Susan Stoker's ("Stoker") newest installment in the "SEAL of Protection" series is absolutely worth the read, if not for the romance, at least for the latest hero, Mozart. Reading about womanizers in your typical romance-suspense genre novel can sometimes work and sometimes not, and Stoker here makes it more than work. Out of the entire SEALS group, Mozart is the king of one-night stands. Regardless, Mozart is the sexiest alpha-male SEAL, one I couldn't get enough of. Did I say that already? No matter. It stands to be repeated several times. I love how Mozart wanted a woman of worth; a woman who would look beyond his good looks and hard body; a woman who wouldn't show signs of disgust or embarrassment, or not be able to look at him in the eyes because of the scars his face physically bears. Instead Mozart wants a woman who will look at him with love and affection; a woman who will love him for who he is on the inside. What really stood out was how after so many years of obsessing about finding and taking revenge on the man who killed his sister, Mozart learned that his sister would want him to move on and live his life to the fullest, and share it with a woman who would love him forever.
I so appreciate and love that both protagonists were in their mid-30's. Even better, Summer is a very likeable heroine that's strong, intelligent, and able to stand up for herself. Reading about Summer I couldn't help but feel for her, the need to give her a hug as I could relate to a character trait of hers. I do love how all the girls get together to support each other and how they quickly included Summer.
I deducted half-a-star because of the predictable plot, which you could see coming a mile away. That and the insta-love. I can understand the feelings and emotions, the sexual chemistry, but to say "I love you" so freaking soon really didn't work for me.
There's just something about this group of SEALS that Stoker has created that stands out from so many other series about Navy SEALS. It's too bad Stoker's "SEAL of Protection" series aren't a little longer. I so look forward to reading Dude's story in the next installment and hope I don't have to wait too long. I really do hope we'll get to read Tex's story as he really deserves one.
I know what I'll be dreaming about tonight, tomorrow night, and the night after. Back off, get your own SEAL. :)
Blurb: At age fifteen, Sam "Mozart" Reed's life changed the day his little sister was found abused and murdered. Since her death, he's spent his life hunting for the serial killer who took his sister from him and ruined his family. Using his connections, and SEAL training, Mozart believes he's finally tracked the killer to the town of Big Bear, California.

I usually love these kinds of story lines but there was a lot about this book that I didn't like. He promised her he was coming back to see her and while gone he try's to sleep with someone else. In the two months he had stayed away he had time off but was trying to make himself forget about her and to not go back. When he does get back, she says she didn't expect you to keep your promise and he got upset about that saying he will always keep his promises. Even though he tried to forget about her. And none of that was spoken of between them. I'm all for an Alpha male but he was too bossy. Also it was his own fault she was kidnapped! He knew there was a serial killer in the area! He did not tell her "be on the look out for someone who looks like ..." The killer was the whole reason he was there. For a SEAL, that was a dumb move. Especially being that he cared about her well being so much. It didn't even seem like he learned anything about her. Just that she was pretty, she lived in bad conditions and she was his. Another thing, at the very end she has tears in her eyes asking "do you not want to have babies with me?". He says not right now and she stops crying but they still want to have unprotected sex. Even though he doesn't want a kid! Like how stupid could they possibly be.
This was the only book I have read out of the series. I will NOT be reading another one. From reading other reviews it looks like all of the other books are just as bad as this one. In every book the H is sexy and the h is plain or not very attractive. The H even says she looks plain. Why would you be with someone like that? The h is always very weak. The H is basically an asshole. If it was real life and the h was your friend you would tell her she is trapped in a bad relationship. Sometimes emotionally abusive too. All of the books are the same, just with different names.
It's just horrible and I was really looking forward to a good series.
It was too instalove for them. They only knew each other a couple of days and bam they are in love!?!? I wasn't convinced. And then he was gone two months, took some woman home to sleep with but thank goodness he didn't, and it was just a little too quick for me. I didn't feel the mine factor as much in this one either. The villain was awful and I am glad what happened to him happened. He was pure evil. I love this series and I am so glad I found some of its books in Scribd. Getting my money's worth this month. There is abuse and torture of a woman if you are squeamish. it was pretty cruel. The heroine has to watch it too. He tapes her eyelids open. He is vile. But the team comes through again. And I do so love the women they pick. The heroes sound hot too.

Protecting Summer is the story where we get Mozard's book. And this book wasn't quite I was expecting,. I loved the sweet relationship here and how it was more slow burn in this one especially with how quickly they got together. There is a bit of a rags to riches/class difference in a way because the heroine is practically homeless and the hero is financially stable. I really loved this dynamic actually and in how he became her knight in shining armor in many different ways. And we do see some good suspense in the third act that I wasnt expecting. I did love the way in which we see them develop their relationship and the connection of trust that is so there so quickly. There was a great friendship that the heroine builds with the other women in the series that I did love to see especially in how welcoming and understanding they were.
The relationship that built them was pretty solid, not my favorite of the series, but a true win for me. Overall a true keeper and can't wait for the next one
I expected more of the same Great Big Misunderstanding, but ended up with a phoned in, zero chemistry romance and torture porn. I know there are darker books out there which I avoid, but given the last book I did not expect on-page torture from the man that raped, tortured and killed the H's little sister.
As this one started out I wondered where these guys find women in such crazy situations. I felt bad for Summer and how her life ended up in the crapper. The one thing that I had a hard time buying into was how a smart woman couldn't find a better job, but I just went with it.
I felt bad for Mozart's past too, how does one get past that? The answer is they don't, instead they go forward and that is what Mozart did. He went into a field that allowed him to find bad guys and punish them.
I loved how these two were together, how Summer took a chance and protected Mozart, even as he didn't need it. I think that one act sealed the deal for Mozart. Even better was when Mozart said he would come back to see her.
I was a bit disappointed in Mozart and how he didn't follow through on what he told Summer for a while. When he did make it back to see her, he had his eyes opened, a good thing, because Summer really needed some help. I was glad that Mozart took steps to help Summer in a way that both could accept. As Mozart left I knew he would sic Caroline and the other girls on Summer.
From here things went about how I guessed. Summer found some great new friends, which made for some great reading. I even guessed what would happen with Summer when more bad things found her and how that would turn out. I was glad that Mozart and the guys were able to swoop in and do their thing.
I loved how this one ended, loved that the group was expanded by one more and look forward to seeing the other guys find their HEA.
Mozart’s personal mission brought him to Big Bear, California. Whilst seeking justice for his sister he finds more than he ever imagined. Whilst away on mission with his SEAL team, will Summer be safe or will the killer strike again?
Susan Stoker did not disappoint with Mozart’s story, she had me hooked from chapter one. Susan sends you on a journey of love, loyalty and suspense with an edge of the unknown. One of the many things I love about Susan Stoker is her characters are always strong and independent, each with their own unique personality. I am yet again left wanting more from the SEAL team and can’t wait to read Dude’s story in Protecting Cheyenne.
If you love military contemporary romances you will absolutely love the Seal of Protection series by Susan Stoker. This book can be read as a standalone, however I would recommend you read them in order to get the maximum enjoyment out of the series.
Another amazing read. There seems to be a recurring theme of strong, selfless women with tragic backstories and their alpha males though. Would be nice to shake things up a bit instead of having to read similar things throughout a series. Still an amazing read though. Once again, FYI, this is a very romanticised romance.
Mozart went over to the bathroom door and eased it open. Steam rolled out the door and he couldn’t help but smile again. He knew he’d told Summer he’d leave the clothes outside the door, but he couldn’t resist going into the bathroom if his life depended on it.
“Sunshine? I’m leaving a shirt and stuff on the sink. I brought in a soda as well. Drink it. The sugar will do you good.” When she didn’t immediately answer, he called out, “You okay?”
He heard a muffled shriek and watched as she stuck her head around the shower curtain. She obviously hadn’t heard him when he’d opened the door to talk to her.
“Mozart? Get out of here!”
“Okay, I’m going. I just wanted to make sure you were all right before I headed out. There’s clothes on the sink, and drink the soda I left for you.”
“All right. Just go!”
Summer heard Mozart laugh as he shut the bathroom door. She should’ve been more upset at him, but she couldn’t.
I didn't love this one as much as the previous reads but Summer and Mozart's story is still enjoyable. I adored Mozart's teasing and how protective he was of Summer. I had expected Summer to be more traumatized due to the torture she's been through. It'd have been nice to know what had happened to Elizabeth and to have that vile male tortured before being killed. Good to see Mozart finding a lady who accepts him, scars and all.
Before he could move, he felt a hand slide over his chest from behind in a tender caress and felt a woman lean over him.
Before Mozart could say or do anything, he heard a husky voice say from right behind his right ear, loudly enough for the three bitches to hear, “Come on, honey, those three orgasms you gave me before dinner weren’t enough. I can’t believe you can stay hard that long. Before you call for the jet can we have one more round in the shower?” The mystery woman nuzzled the side of his face, his scarred side, as she playfully ran both hands up and down his chest.
Mozart’s body locked tight. His teeth clenched and he could feel his jaw clench. Even not knowing exactly what the woman’s game was, her tone, and words, made his cock stand up and take notice. He brought up a hand up and wrapped it around one of her forearms as she continued to caress him with her other hand. Mozart didn’t know if he wanted to wrench it away from his body, or force it down lower into his lap. He did neither, just held on as her hand moved up and down his chest and he watched as the bitches’ mouths dropped open and they stared as they walked past him on their way into the small office.
The woman who had her hands all over him apparently wasn’t quite done. As the trio passed by, he felt her head turn toward them as she sneered in their direction, proving she knew they could hear her the entire time, “He’s all man, and he’s all mine. If you’re stupid enough to not be able to look past his face, then you don’t deserve to have a man spend all night pleasuring you. And believe me, he knows how to use every inch of his body for my satisfaction.”
The woman then stood up, grabbed Mozart’s hand, and pulled him off the porch toward his small cabin. Mozart didn’t even look back to see what the other women did, he only had eyes for the dynamo who was towing him to his room.
A must read series for you romance lovers.
“I don’t know what to say.”
Mozart leaned in close to her again. “Say, ‘Thank you, Mozart,’ then kiss me to thank me properly.”
Summer grinned. “Thank you, Mozart.” She leaned toward him and at the last minute shifted until her lips met his scarred cheek.
Mozart laughed and grabbed her around the waist and took two steps backward and fell on the bed on his back, still clutching Summer in his arms. She shrieked and laughed as they fell.
I am quite addicted to this combination of author and narrator. Definitely a win-win situation for me! Some parts were a tad bit graphic and could be triggers for some listeners. But I definitely can’t wait for more stories from this SEAL team. -4.5 Stars!-
This is the first book I read on the series (the second one was Protecting Alabama). I just noticed that the heroines were so poor they kinda had no choice but to take a chance on the heroes.... This was also just too fast, I like my contemporary romance to make some sense.. like insta-love mine-mine-mine or relationship building (which did not happen here).
I need more stars!! This series just gets better and better. I've been waiting for Mozart's book, after reading about what happened to his face in the first book. He was perfect. I know Dude's book is next, but I really want to read Benny and Jess' book!! Oh, oh...and Tex too!!
I can't seem to find a Susan Stoker book that I don't love. Protecting Summer is no different. Each book of the SEAL of Protection can be read alone but I honestly feel like you would be missing out on some really great books if you do that. So if you read this one first you'll be fine, but take my word for it you want to go back and read the others.
Mozart is another one of Susan's hot SEALs. He lost his sister when he was a teenager to a serial killer and rapist and it marked him. From that moment on his life's mission was to find the man that did it and kill him.
Summer had a run of bad luck that ended her up in the mountains cleaning rooms at a cut rate hotel. Her husband left her for another woman, her job let her go and she just couldn't seem to get a handle on her life. But, she was a hardworker and willing to work her butt off to survive.
When Mozart got a tip that the man he'd been hunting was in the mountains he took his week off and went after him. Meeting Summer was a happy coincidence and one that he didn't waste. I love how these guys find the women they want and don't hesitate to stake their claim. I know some people are turned off by the insta-love storyline but I like it when it's plausible. When you know, you know, right? He reads Sophie's situation and steps into to help her. Of course being the independent woman that she is Sophie would rather go hungry than accept help but she sees how it hurts Mozart and let's go of her stubborn objections. There is something about these guys that make them all manly and alpha yet putty in their women's hands.
It wouldn't be a Susan Stoker book if there wasn't some kind of kidnapping, near death experience but in true SEAL fashion the day is saved. You will not be sorry if you give this book and this series a chance.
There were moments of suspense in this story that had my heart beating so fast I had to set the book down! Summer is a perfect example of how fragile our security is in the world. Mozart knows about this, being a SEAL has that front and centre, but he also knows because he once relied solely on his looks, and those changed for him. A chance meeting and an instant spark happens between these two. This only leads to more disappointment for Summer, and unfortunately, she has come to expect it. Mozart finally realizes his mistake, but he is almost too late. When timing counts though, he comes through just in time and Summer has no problem putting all her trust and faith in him <3
This series just grows on you. This story focuses on Mozart and Summer. They meet in a kind of beat up motel where Summer Is a maid and Mozart has come to track down the man that killed his little sister long ago. They hit it off immediately but are apart pretty quickly because Mozart has to go out of town on a mission. The man that killed Mozart's sister then kidnaps Summer and Mozart and the SEAL crew have to come and rescue Summer.
I'm not really sure why I like this series but I do. The books are pretty short, I read this one in a day. The plots are pretty predictable:, I guessed the real identity of the bad guy pretty early. Are the plots implausible:,YUP. Yet, there is something about this group of Navy SEALs that is just awesome, you can't help but like them. For the most part, I like the women too, they tend to be strong and while they let their alpha men be alphas, the women are not wimpy. I also like the friendship between the women and how they support one another. I also like the way the men and the women encourage the heroines to get professional counseling.
So, I can't wait until the next book comes out: I hope it's longer!!!!
Too violent. Characters’ relationship not built enough (Did Summer ever explain to Sam “Mozart” why she was working as a hotel maid in a small town? Did they discuss anything of substance before they proclaimed themselves meant for each other?). These books were written fast and it shows, but I’m still reading the series. As an aside, I wonder if the story Mozart tells Summer I read the ebook. 3/5
I am so in love with this entire series and look forward to the release of each book.
Each of the SEALs have found a true love and Sam/Mozart is no exception. These strong, rough and tough men seem to meet a woman who is damaged and see beyond that and come to their rescue and fall in love. They don't just fall in love, they make it a fairy tale for their women and put them on a pedestal.
Yep. She did it again. Stoker's SEAL of Protection series is dabomb.com!!! Beautifully developed characters, intriguing plots and romances for the ages. This series has it all. If you're looking for a well written tale full of alpha males, action and awesome heroines then you are definitely in the right place! If you haven't already go out now and get the ENTIRE series! Well done Ms. Stoker :)
