This volume, the first in the series, contains two stories set just after the end of the Disney movie and television series, “Tangled” and with all the same characters. The first, “What the Hair?” is the same story that aired on the television series, “Tangled the Series”. In it, Rapunzel and her best friend/handmaiden Cassandra keep a secret about Rapunzel’s hair from her boyfriend, Eugene. They visit a nearby wizard, Varian, for assistance, but his dangerous invention nearly gets them killed. The second story, “The Great Science Expo” focuses more on Cassandra. She is caught between her chance to have a first assignment as a palace guard versus being there as a friend to Varian when he needs her help.

While I love fractured fairy tales, I could really have done without a series, of which this is the first title, in which Rapunzel has emerged from the tower where she was imprisoned and now is living large. That said, I'm sure many little would-be Disney princesses will enjoy the story and its humorous aspects. For me, not so much, though. I winced every time Rapunzel's best friend Cassandra affectionately called her Raps. The nickname just didn't work for me. The book itself contains two different stories--one in which Rapunzel tries to figure out why her brown hair has turned blonde again and is long instead of short, and one in which she is determined to come up with a cool invention but is somewhat handicapped by being stuck in the tower for so many years while various inventions made their way into the world. Readers won't be totally sure just how much they can trust her boyfriend, Eugene, since he has a somewhat unsavory past. I'm sure these books will entice some reluctant readers and die-hard princess fans, and I'm not the intended audience for the books. To their credit, they are short and easy to read and contain some scenes that made me smile.

My daughter recently got into the Tangled Show on Disney+. When we saw these chapter books, she wanted to read them right away. Each book contains two stories (two episodes) of the show. The stories follow along pretty much the same as the episode. My daughter loves to read but sometimes loses interest in what she is reading half way through. This book kept her interest and she's already started the second book. This has been a good series for her because she can visualize the episodes that she watched recently as she reads and it helps her stay invested in the story. They are easy reads for her to read by herself or when she wants to read together.

Thought this was super cute! I love the movie but have never seen the tv show. Not sure how close this is with the show or where it lies in with the two but still cute! It went well with her and her story. I did enjoy the stories it brought us through. Not like some other stupid shows on tv right now!

These two stories were so cute. I believe they are episodes of the show too. I read this for The Reading Rush.

I like this comics style stories with my favourite disney couple. Don't have Disney Channel so this was a great introduction to Tangled the series, can't wait to have Disney + to stream it. I have to wait 'till the 31st March, because I'm from europe, the struggle is real.

Read with my 6 yo daughter. Kept her attention. I'm glad to see some Disney female characters step away from the damsel in distress mode!
