When a mysterious man from the past suddenly returns to the village, Charity Miller, the young and beautiful daughter of the town’s most respected vicar, finally sees a way out of her oppressed and miserable life.
But the powerful Duke of Mornington has banished Adam - his very handsome, only son - by accusing him of a terrible crime he never committed; an event everyone in the village whispers about. The Reverend Miller quickly arranges for Charity to marry a man she doesn’t love, but Charity is in turmoil: she must decide to either follow her heart or her father's unyielding wishes.
With the clock ticking and his dukedom being under the threat of extinction, Adam must not only save his relationship with the only woman he ever loved but also uncover the painful truth of that day’s dreadful event.
A truth, though, that comes with unprecedented consequences...
*Charity Falls for the Rejected Duke is a historical Regency romance novel of 80,000 words (around 400 pages). No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a sweet happily ever after.
Hanna Hamilton has been fascinated with the Regency era ever since she was a young teen, first discovering historical romance novels by famous authors such as Jane Austen and Lisa Kleypas. She believes that love was just so much more magical back then, more like a fairy tale. She always daydreamed about finding love herself that way, but since that is impossible in the twenty-first century, she decided to write about it instead!
Born in Texas, Hanna Hamilton obtained a degree in Creative Writing and has worked as a literature teacher before becoming a novelist. When she isn’t writing, Hanna likes to explore the countryside with her husband and two children, gaining inspiration from the natural world around her.
So, come on a journey into love, confusion, and redemption all within the Regency era. Hanna hopes that you will enjoy immersing yourself into her novels and that you too will find a love for old-fashioned romance, just as she has.
Beautiful love- and mystery story! I thought I knew by whom, how and why Mary and her son were killed, but kept being surprised by the discoveries throughout the book! Charity, her Duke and her friend Esther are wonderful characters. As is Mrs. Warwick! But the fathers of the main characters kept annoying me. How can you just take someone's word, without proof and throw your own child out? And Charity's father is hardly any better... I received a copy and chose to review it.
I love a good historical Regency tomance novel, and have a particular weakness for those involving Dukes. I think it’s because I know enough history of the period that I’d not want to actually be romanced by any of Europe’s royalty (and even more so by a member of the House of Hannover) but Dukes? I don’t know enough about the ducal houses so I can let myself roam free in what I imagine. Lucky for me, Hanna Hamilton is the Master at delivering the best of these sort of stories, and Charity Falls for the Rejected Duke is a fine example of that. Vicar’s daughter Charity and Duke’s son Adam are a wonderful pairing and her perseverance in supporting him in discovering who framed him for the heinous crime he never committed (despite the pain it cost) is uplifting. No shocker here that there’s a great HEA here and other than one minor thing (I would’ve liked more clarity that thanks to primogenitire what was at stake was the great wealth, to the extent not entailed, and not the actual ducal title, but that’s a nit) this really is a beautifully told perfect story. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.
AN ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT TREAT!!! Holy schnitzel! Hanna brought out the heavy artillery, C-4 and assult rifles loaded for bare with this impressive storyline and gripping plot, blasting this gem to life spectacularly. A surging vortex of fervent events and baffling circumstances, blow this bad boy wide open. Sparks fly as drama, intrigue, deception, accusations, turmoil, secrets, mounting suspense and perplexing situations along with a boatload of chaos while dodging calamity, you have one prize winning masterpiece. Forging through the trials and tribulations, noting the astonishing twists and wicked turns, testing our characters in ways they could have never envisioned. Anarchy, escapades and havoc run amuck, kicking this gem into a roaring tempest, blasting it into a frenzy with a life-altering denouement. The dynamics and countenance in layer upon layer that you peel back with each page your drawn into this web so deep until everything else ceases to exist. The characters are complex and authentic with depth and traits that blend and flow smoothly transforming into genuinely relatable personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and descriptions creating a colorful backdrop that makes the storyline pop. Remarkable job Hanna, thanks for sharing this little treasure with us.
A murder/accidental death mystery. From the very beginning, we know that a woman and child have died a tragic and inexplicable death. For unknown reasons, the Duke is convinced his son was the murderer and he refuses to forgive him. The village seems to be equally divided between those who believe him guilty and those who believe him innocent. Charity is one of those who believes Adam to be innocent, despite her father's insistence he is guilty.
There are some great characters created in this novel and the plot is mysterious and compelling. The pacing was just right with the perfect amount of tension. At one point, I found myself unable to put the book down as revelations began to unfurl. Adam goes from wanting to clear his own name to wanting to find the guilty party and obtain closure for the survivors.
There is a great bit of subtle and carefully-worded foreshadowing involving a black cloth. There are themes of deception and lies — both outright and lies of omission — death, loss, repentance, forgiveness, honor, hope, and of course, love. In all, I found this book engrossing and quite satisfying. In its entirety, I found it to be one of Hanna Hamilton's better works and I highly recommend it.
Charity Falls for the Rejected Duke was a wonderfully written story by the talented Hanna Hamilton. This book has a touch of everything for every reader, it is very intriguing story with some interesting twists and turns, it has mystery, some family drama and a childhood friend ship and most definitely some love. This book just grabs a hold of you from the very start and keeps you turning the pages quickly to see what is coming next. The characters are strong, determined and very lovable. Charity is the Viscar only daughter once had a great childhood friendship with Adam the only son of the Duke of Morington, but a tragedy occurs and Adam is banished. A year later he comes home to basically figure out a mystery. Charity’s father is ready for her to marry but she doesn’t want who he has chosen. This is a story that will definitely keep you intrigued. I absolutely loved and recommend this fantastic book. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I have read a couple of other books by Hanna Hamilton and just loved them! So I was really disappointed in this latest book. I hate to leave a negative review of any book, because I understand how hard the author works to write and publish a book they take pride in. That being said, I thought this story itself was good.. I love the plot twist and didn't expect the mystery of how the mother and her little boy died to be solved in that way. I thought I had figured out who was guilty of their murders, and was delighted to find that although the Reverend Miller was indirectly responsible for their deaths, no one was actually guilty of their murders. However, I thought the book lagged on and on, three quarters of the book were boring, in my opinion; it was too slowly paced and much too wordy.. until the last part of the book when the pace picked up and the story started moving along. I loved the way the story ended, and I especially love the extended epilogues in her books.
This story had just about everything from love, trust, deception, greed, despair, and a lot more. It is woven around a son Adam who has been wrongly accused of murder and banished by his own father, and re connection to his friend/playmate Charity who is now the Vicar's grown daughter. They are drawn together when he returns due to his fathers illness, however his father the Duke will still not believe Adam innocent. At times during reading, I was distressed that things moved so slowly as Adam sought to clear his name as I felt he was too distracted to really get the job done. All part of the ingenious plot contrived by Hannah Hamilton, however I did have a slight inkling, as to who the real culprit might be. Another story extremely well done. Although I received an advance readers copy, I also purchased the book, and I am leaving my review because I think it is a story well worth reading.
This is the heartwarming story of 2 young couples falling in love, in a village haunted by the mystery surrounding the death of a young woman and her illegitimate son the previous year. Adam, the young man falsely accused of the deaths, returns home to his ailing father to restore their relationship. He realizes that he needs to solve the mystery of the deaths in order to do so. Upon returning home, he re-establishes a warm relationship with Charity, the daughter of the village vicar, whose controlling father is trying to marry her off to another young cleric. The seemingly simple love story evolves into a mystery, the solving of which brings more heartache to all parties. The layers of lies are steadily peeled back until the truth is revealed, in this page-turning story. We do have a HEA ending for the 2 couples. This is a clean story, appropriate for readers of all ages.
Murder, mystery, love & fate... Everything hangs on Adam proving his innocence of murder. His father can't abide the thought that he may have d0ne it and Adam can't allow his father to die thinking that he did it. Joining the investigation is Charity Miller (the Reverand's daughter and repressed young woman) and village local.
This book will grab you and keep you involved with the investigation & the romance. Charity believes that Adam is innocent and will persist until it's proven. And Adam becomes more and more driven to uncover the truth and clear his name. Through it all a childhood friendship is renewed and grows.
Charity Miller loves being the vicar's daughter, but she gets very little alone time, which she misses. Adam is the only son of the Duke of Mornington, who left several years earlier after being accused of a crime he didn't commit. When he gets a letter from home about his father being very ill, he comes home, but his dad is less than happy to see him and won't look him him in the eye. The town is suspicious of him because of the accusations. Charity's dad arranges a marriage for his only daughter, with a man she doesn't love. Will Adam get his life straightened out? Will the truth come out before mistakes are made?
Oh my gracious!! You just keep writing the most exciting books and this is just your latest contribution. The story of Charity is just awesome. Just could hardly put it down, even if not able to get it on BookFunnel, and finally getting it on email, it was so exciting!! Always hate where fathers can be so callous as to not believe the best of a child, lies and deceit of people you love and care for, and resolution of a tragedy is so heart warming.
Above all, finding true love and faith in those you love, is a HE A story, of which you do so well in writing about!!! I shall look forward to all of your future books!! Blessings, B. J.
Accused of murdering a woman and her young child--Adam was banished from his father's home. He knew he was innocent-but how to prove it?
Adam and Charity, the daughter of the Vicar, had been childhood playmates. When they have a chance meeting again sparks fly. But Charity knows nothing can come of it and they remain friends only. She does not really believe Adam could have murdered anyone either. Charity has a very close friend, Esther, who plays an inregral part in all that happens!
Eventually things start coming together and you will never guess what actually happened! Just know there are a couple of happily ever afters!
Heartwarming story, with a twist at the end. Adam and Charity played together as children. They are warm, strong characters, whose feelings are obvious from the time they met again as adults. While searching for answers to what happened twelve months ago, Adam and Charity must look inwards to determine if what they are feeling for each other is real. I loved this story, especially the extended epilogue. This author never fails to weave a delightful tale that keeps your interest the entire way through the book.
Adam has been banished by his father the Duke for a crime he did not commit. Charity is the daughter of a Vicar and doesn’t want the life her father has planned for her. When Adam and Charity meet, sparks fly. Can Adam find out what really happened and proof to his father he is innocent and receive permission to marry Charity before it is to late? This is a fast-paced historical read with plenty of twists and turns that will hold your interest throughout. I really liked the characters and their story kept me entertained throughout. A good read.
Adam Harding son of the Duke of Mornington was banished by his father because he believed that Adam had kill a woman and her son. Adam returned to try and convince his father that he didn't kill them. He was out walking the property and saw Charity and she saw him. The next time they saw each other was when he came to ask her father who was the vicar to speak to his father. Who kill Mary and her son Freddie? Will Charity marry Adam? Will Adam's cousin Sir Toby become the new heir to the Dukedom? To answer these questions u must read the book.
Exciting, very emotional, mysterious & romantic. Enjoyed this book very much! The plot has a very surprising ending. I loved how Hannah interjected interesting & moving pieces of the personal lives of all the characters & brought everyone around to forgiveness after all. What utter sadness & heartbreak is involved before the truth is fully known, but the positive attitudes of the friends & the rejected duke is what brought everything to a happy ending.
Adam was treated wrong and was accused of doing everything his father and mother raised him to be. He was an honest, dignified man. Taught the right from the wrong. But in this case he did nothing and he was treated the wrong way. Left came back in search to clear his name and hold whoever accounted for and clear his own name in the process he falles in love. The story is well written and I didn't get lost in way of writing. I would recommend you read this book if you love romance.
Excellent book, a sweet and romantic mystery story that wraps you around and you can’t put down because you have to know what’s going to happen next. The plot is not what you are expecting, a must read book. I received this book free as part of the ARC team in exchange of my honest and voluntary review.
A well written story with a mystery to solve, forgiveness to be had and love to be found. Many accusations will neecvto put to rest before the rejected duke can have a relationship with the kind Charity. The villains will turn outbbto be a surprise. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
An engrossing tale of a son rejected, a mysterious murder, a forthright young lady and her controlling Clergyman father , Ms Hamilton takes us on a path of high delight, depths of sadness to the high peaks of happiness in this historical who- dun-it!!! Recommended .
Enjoyed this book very much, it has love, friendship, trust, betrayal, greed and forgiveness. It is well written and the characters are well defined. The story centers around Adam the son of a Duke who returns home to clear his name and Charity the Daughter of the town minster who meet and fall in love. Received an advanced reader copy and voluntarily leaving this review.
This is a very good love story with a mystery thrown in. Charity and Adam were childhood playmates. When they meet again they don't recognize each immediately. Adam has been away traveling, because he was accused of drowning a lady and her child. He has to prove himself innocent before he can pursue a life with Charity.
This was an incredibly well crafted story. The plot unfolds at a perfect pace, a mystery unravelling while we learn not only about the characters in their present, but also in their past.
Hannah Hamilton has done it again.. This is a delightful regency novel with a bit of mystery. Her characters are lively and real. She has a way of guiding you tthrough the story so you can put it down. Thanks, Hannah for sharing your special gift with us.
This story has me in tears and laughing at the same time . Andrew and Charity going through so much in one settings. It was sad to find out of such a loss but to be blamed at the same time. I read this book for I love these stories .I give it a 5+++++
This novel is charming and the characters are wonderful. I knew who the culprit was halfway through the story. This had nothing to do with the author but for the fact I love a good mystery. What actually happened is surprising, but our two main characters know just how to handle the result.
A well written Regency story with romance and suspense. The Reverend in the village is listened to and well respected except by his daughter, Charity. Adam returns from abroad, and is determined to solve the murder that got him excommunicated to get his title back, and find love.
A good old-fashioned whodunit. Charity and Adam struggle to find out who truly committed the murders and struggle with their feelings for each other as well. They resolve both and get the happiness they both deserved. I voluntarily read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Another wonderful book by Hanna Hamilton! This book was so exciting intriguing and devastating. Absolutely loved the characters and storyline about Adam and Charity.
This was a different kind of romance novel. It showed what lies and deceit will do to families and reputations. And promises made on death can cause a lot of difficulties.
