The Savageside
(The Flipside #2)
by Jake Bible
Wow, Bible really took this book to a new level! Book one has A time bible but now there are several time bubbles and lots of chaos! Evil Russian attempting to take over, new dinosaurs due to the time bubbles. A deadly virus, Russians, and killer dinos, and failing equipment is not helping the group get back to their time! Very well plotted and great characters! Great use of the time bubbles too! Exciting and thrilling! Can't wait for the next book!

Oh. Oh, man. I hate to do this (no, REALLY), but this only gets 3 grudging stars. Up till now I’ve thoroughly enjoyed everything of Jake Bible’s that I’ve read. But this second instalment to The Flipside Sagas, just didn’t do it for me. The dialogue was fairly juvenile, the plot line seemed rushed, and the editor dropped the ball on numerous errors found throughout. It kills me not to be able to give a 5 star rating. But I can’t, in good conscience, give this more than 3. This definitely won’t deter me from pursuing more of Bible’s work though. 1 miss out of the 19 others of his I’ve read so far isn’t a bad record.

Having loved book 1, I couldn't wait to dive into this to see what would happen, and wow, Jake Bible really puts them all through the wringer!!

What I love about the books is that the plot is so far fetched, that it's believable. Lol. This one sees the people stuck in Flipside trying their hardest to survive and find a way back to their time, but this is a Jake Bible book and he doesn't let them off easily!! They have Russians to deal with, Dinosaurs, even more dinosaurs, and things they didn't expect. The plot never lets up and I devoured it!!

Once again, the characters are all well developed. My favourite has to be the Dinosaur though. Cash has his hands full, as does everyone on the base. I try not to become too attached to any of Bible's characters though as you never know who is going to live!!

In all, a wonderfully written and unique world that I adore! I really can't wait to see where he goes from here.

Andrew B. Wehrlen reads everything so clearly and is so easy to listen to that he has become one of my favourites. He always has plenty of tones and voices and makes each character stand out.

I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

This was a fantastic conclusion to the two-part series. There were a lot of threads to pull together, and Bible did a masterful job. And once again, the character work was outstanding.

Seemed really rushed at the end. Still many questions unanswered.

"Is that a bubble?."
A story by Jake Bible is always going to be fast moving, exciting and immaginative. But with The Savage Side, he has really exceeded expectations. And with the excellent Andrew Wehrlen's narrating, well, it becomes exceptional.

No synopsis other than to say that technology is rapidly failing in the flipside enclave, the Wingers and Teeth still roam outside, and where are the Russians? What is really needed is Brain to get them all home.
Mr.Bible's writing, like his action, is brisk, quickly descriptive, his characters well drawn despite the paucity of words. Conversations are sometimes terse, sometimes joking, all befitting people tied together in an uncompromisingly bad situation. Whatever their feelings, they are stuck with each other. The narrator captures the edgy discomfort beautifully, each protagonist differently voiced. Mr.Wehrlen has an unique style of narration which is perfect for this audiobook: a gun rattle fast reading sweetly intoned, balanced and with a pleasant burr to his voice. It all fits perfectly with this time disrupting story.

My deep thanks to the rights holder of The Savage Side, who, at my request via Audiobook Boom, freely gifted me a complimentary copy. This is the second book in the Flipside Saga and, although it is better read after experiencing the first, could still be read as a stand-alone Once the introductory pages are over, this book becomes absorbingly un-put-downable. Try it.

“Lions, and Tigers, and T-Rexs, Oh MY ~ !” The second adventure into the strange “bubbles” that appear around the world is found in “Savageside.” All of the crew who survived is back in this story which features our protagonist Trevon Cash who was the former Head of Security for Topside Command. Also returning is Cash’s pet ~ Elvis ~ as Ankylosaurs. This second story is a little better than the first.

Happily, Jake Bible really took this story to a better level! “Flipside” (book 1) has a malfunctioning time bubble, but now there are multiple time bubbles, lots of confusion and chaos, and the Russians finally make their appearance. In “Savageside,” failing equipment gets worse, cruel Russians attempt to take over the base, new and dangerous foliage and landscape offers new dangers, and strange and different dinosaurs appear, all due to these new time bubbles.

“Savageside” offers the reader a banquet with a thrilling mix of terror and adventure in the prehistoric landscapes. As you may expect, there are implausible situations; still, the story offers a lot of fast action and many gruesome deaths. The characterization is good, but it is a little stereotypical as to types of people. Thankfully, some of the main characters are developed more fully. This is a good Sci-Fi yarn which will keep the reader entertained.

I really enjoyed this second book in the Flipside Saga series. Trapped on the Flipside, Trevon Cash and his friends and associates must not only try to survive an unstable landscape, a host of new, large, aggressive dinosaurs and the threat the Russians present, but also face the reality that they may never again be able to return to Topside. This book is packed with battles, action, loss and strife. The people stuck on Flipside live everyday fighting for their life with new challenges and surprises around every corner. The narrator of the audiobook, Andrew B. Wehrlen, pulls you into the story and makes you feel everything clearly. He is easy to listen and gives the characters individual recognisable personalities. This story has a more serious tone than the first book, as it is it is more to do with survival rather than rescue, but there is still plenty of humorous parts and the action and twists definitely keep you captivated. This is a well written and narrated story and I look forward to seeing where it goes from here.

Excellent Action adventure fiction is Jake Bible for sure, and too many people see dinosaurs so they think Jurassic Park but they would be very off line.
But this series needs at least one more book, there are way too many unanswered questions left ( he writes one and I personally will return to add a star to the story ) .
As usually coupled with Andrew B. Wehrlen narrating beautifully brings those books to life.

Full of Pros.
No Cons beside that I believe that a continuation is needed, that cool twist at the endings opened up a whole new can of worms of unanswered questions but was worth it.

So yes I do absolutely recommend this and all Jakes audiobooks which I already reviewed 3 and got one more starting tomorrow, yes absolutely recommended !!!

2nd book of this series got for free in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a strong one in it's own right, but I think most people will appreciate it more if they listen or read the first one in the series before it as having that foundation nicely enhances your overall impression of this one. This book again has that same action movie feel to it and for the most part it works, but I do feel that some of the characters may suffer a little because of it.

The narrator put in another strong performance on one of this author's books and I can understand why they continue to work together on them as they seem to be a good fit.

Overall, a good book, but definitely stronger as a book two if you consider the series as a whole.

Book 2

The only reason I gave this book such a low rating is because the profanity was so bad. My goodness, I cringed reading this. What did I expect, all of this author's book that I read are like this. Really takes away from the story, which is a good one. I would like to read more from him, but it seems like he used as many f and mf words as he can. Normal people don't talk like that. Come on dude! I hope he puts the next book in this series soon and I hope it is the last in this series cause I won't start another. Not that he pays me to read his books...oh yeah, I pay him.

Meh!
Have read better and and some a lot worse than this.
One story split into two books.
Only read it so I could see how it ended.
Characters are so clichéd and flat, like some fanboys TV film script with z rated actors made of wood.
The pet dinosaur seemed as intelligent as some of the people imo.
One character who fell off a wall and was shot 4 times in the back crawls off when no one's looking and is able to survive and thrive alone, sorry but my suspension of belief well and truly passed it breaking point then.
The ending was a bit limp and lackluster.
Will try something else by this author and see if that changes my opinion of his style, until then........watch this space.

The book was good good good right up until about the last 20% then there's a bullshit 2 year time skip and a further 4 year time skip that just instantly happens. So we're somehow supposed to just accept someone near death survives 6 years on her own in flip side? Mehhhhhhh.

That ending felt weak and rushed like he just ran out of ideas and tried to make it all magically fit. It really should have been probably 3 books if it had a competent ending. I'm only giving it 3 stars because I liked where it was going up till that last bit. Such a disappointment after 1.8 good books.

oh yes a book about time travel. that is always a subject that is very hard to get right. I think this both are very good job with its use of time travel.

just in case you didn't pick up on it via that cover this book has dinosaurs! though I will say the dinosaurs are not used as much as I would like them to be. but that's just my own personal opinion.

I would like to listen to your new book winds of war. I reviewed the first book already.

Fun read

This was a fun adventure story, picking up from the first book. The characters were a mix of well developed and a few (Russians) that were one dimensional and predictable. The story is a little disconnected in some areas, but not enough to detract from an overall good story. I look forward to the conclusion of the storyline and whatever comes next.

One of my favorites

This book deserves a great rating especially considering where it picks up from the first book. I thought that there could be no way the second would be as good as the first but it was better. The twists and turns in top of the never ending feeling of wanting to find out what is next made it enjoyable, engaging, and addictive. I could not stop reading.

A good book

This one was as good as the first one but it was even more confusing I read it till the end because I didn’t know what the end was going to be. In the end was even more confusing than the beginning. But all in all it was a good book I just wish for us non-science tech savvy people it had a better explanation.

You'll see...

... what is in the past and what the future brings.
Flipping fantastic. Being stuck on the flipside isn't the only problem the team has, with dinosaurs, new bubbles, and the threat from the Russians imminent. This book has it all, in spades.

Loved it

I almost gave it 4 stars cause the beginning is a little slow and there are some parts that were a little confusing but the ending made up for all of that. The way this book ended has me drooling for, what i assume is, the final book in the series

Good follow up to the original, that continues the adventure as the team struggle with life in the past trying to find a way home. Moves at a nice pace, the introduction of more timelines does make it more complicated at times, but a nice finish that leaves it open for a third book.

Good story

Well written story with very interesting characters. The story arc was well planned & may have a few more stories to tell expecially about Olivia. I enjoyed reading it very much.

The people left on flipside struggle to survive without tech support that keeps breaking down. Disease wipes out many and the Russians show up to make matters worse. The language in this book was terrible and the ending left to many questions unanswered.

The flipside saga continues. Our intrepid, demoted hero Cash and crew are forced to deal with an unstable flipside. The once regular and timely flipside has gone haywire. The “turns” are now sporadic, catching explorers and scientists alike in a deadly game of musical chairs. The variety, size, and temperament of dinosaurs are out of control as well. If the over-sized dinos weren’t bad enough, Cash has Russians to deal with as well. The Flipside has indeed turned into the Savageside. Will they ever get back home ??

They've been in Flipside for several years now and they are sick and tired it it !! They want to go home. Liv has even trained small scavenger dinos to be hunting partners and has lived alone for 6 years. A truly great book. Highly recommended.
