Climate Change 2014 Synthesis Report Summary for Policymakers

Rate this book
This Synthesis Report is based on the reports of the three Working Groups of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
(IPCC), including relevant Special Reports. It provides an integrated view of climate change as the final part of the IPCC’s
Fifth Assessment Report (AR5).
This summary follows the structure of the longer report which addresses the following topics: Observed changes and their
causes; Future climate change, risks and impacts; Future pathways for adaptation, mitigation and sustainable development;
Adaptation and mitigation.
In the Synthesis Report, the certainty in key assessment findings is communicated as in the Working Group Reports and
Special Reports. It is based on the author teams’ evaluations of underlying scientific understanding and is expressed as a
qualitative level of confidence (from very low to very high) and, when possible, probabilistically with a quantified likelihood
(from exceptionally unlikely to virtually certain). Where appropriate, findings are also formulated as statements of fact without
using uncertainty qualifiers.

This is a summary of the IPCCs fifth assessment report on climate change. I read it because I was interested in what the actually have to say (and not media simplifications or straw men from any opposition).

For the last month I have spent quite a bit of time listening to lectures by climatologists, oceanographers, and the like. I grew up more or less believing the common narrative created by the likes of Al Gore, however, I realized that there is actually a great amount of dissent even amongst the most educated class when it comes to "global warming" or "climate change." Now, my provisional opinion is that much of climate "science," particularly the kind peddled by the IPCC boy scouts in this document, has an almost completely political agenda, and hardly anything to do with real "science."

Ultimately, a lot of climate hysteria seems like a Platonic "noble lie" par excellence, useful for the purposes of population control, confiscation of natural resources (via 'sustainable development' initiatives), and the general facilitation of public opinion; it might be a lie that I am content for people to believe in -- I am not sure yet.
