All The Right Moves

Rate this book
A must read Romantic Comedy.

Being called the worst boyfriend can do a number on a man’s ego.
But I handled it the way any full-grown adult male would—by eating copious amounts of carbs and wallowing over whether I was good enough.
I admit, it wasn’t the best of moments, but it made me realize I needed answers to the question, what are women looking for inside and out of the bedroom?
After I researched the subject, I compiled my data into a solution.

Thirty days.
Thirty right moves.

But I needed to test out my newfound theories, and my best friend, Tenley, was going to help.
It was a foolproof plan.
We would date and act like a real couple, all in the name of research. And when the thirty days were up, we would go back to being just friends.
Piece of cake, right?
Only, I forgot to take into consideration the multiple outcomes. Specifically, the one where it left me wanting more and refusing to go back to what we were... ever again.

Every day is an adventure. Sometimes those adventures are ones you never knew you wanted to have.

My adventure started with a dream. The dream became a paragraph. The paragraph developed into chapters. The chapters formed a book.

It's only the beginning.

When his snotty, shallow girlfriend dumps him with a list of thirty reasons why he’s the worst boyfriend, Preston Griffin, 25, embarks on a plan to redeem himself. And the person he turns to is his neighbor and best friend since they were seven, Tenley Ray.

Told via their dual first person POV, this is a friends to lovers romance. It’s super sweet and the sexy times are steamy and yet still done meaningfully. It definitely came across that they were making love, not just hooking up. The pair made a cute couple.

“A couple who shared a washer together stayed together.”

Preston most certainly didn’t have the wrong moves nor was he a bad boyfriend at all. He was a really caring and attentive guy and very supportive. A total sweetie. He just needed to reexamine what or more specifically who he wanted.

Tenley has a few insecurities and she’s had a crush on Preston for a long time. I do wish that had been more balanced, though there are certainly hints that Preston had latent feeling for her that he didn’t recognize till now. When he struggles with jealousy and insecurities himself, well it was a nice dose of karma.
“‘I don’t want to mess this up.’
‘You’re not going to .’
‘How do you know?’
“Because it’s me and you. And you haven’ messed it up in the eighteen years I’ve known you. You’ve been there for me, and I’ve been there for you. So right now, we’re going to be there for each other. Together. And it’s going to be amazing.’”

All in all, I enjoyed the story as a romantic and feel-good read. There are just two cringe-worthy lines that could have been edited out to make the story better. First, Tenley mentions that they share an apartment wall and she used to hear Preston with his ex. Even though the ex was a faker, that’s a sound and image that neither the heroine in a romance or the reader needs. Secondly, Preston’s thoughts on marriage include asking the father for permission. That’s an archaic custom that implies another man has control over a grown woman’s life. I was disappointed that a modern guy like Preston still bought into that sexist practice.

This is mainly a low angst romance aside from some predictable drama at the climax. Loved the well done epilogue. Epilogues set further in the future like that are always a treat in romancelandia.

3.5 out of 5

This is a cute book I read in one day with likeable people and a feel good, friends to lovers vibe. At the beginning, Preston has been dumped by his girlfriend of four years. She wrote him a list of all the things that make him the worst boyfriend of all time. After wallowing in self pity for a while, he decides that he needs to figure out how to be the best boyfriend. He's into statistics so he does his research, makes graphs and compiles all kinds of stats. It's really quite a hoot. But now he needs a test subject to 'practice' being the best boyfriend with and who better than his best friend Tenly. They’ve been almost inseparable since they were young kids despite him being a boy and her a girl. She's a bit taken aback by his request to pretend he's hey boyfriend for a month but Tenly agrees. You see, she has much different feelings for Preston than just friendship. She's been crushing on him for years and though she knows it will devastate her at the end of the month, she's willing to risk it.

This is a fun and sweet friends to lovers tale. Both Tenly and Preston are such likeable people and their friends are a hoot. It's kind of like a reading hug. There isn't a lot of angst which is what I was in the mood for. It's on KU and I'm happy to recommend it.

5/5 Stars

Preston is a stats guy, and after being told he is the worst boyfriend on the planet, he sets out to survey people about when women want in a boyfriend. After all his research he turns to his best friend Tenley to test what he has learned. Little did they both know it would turn into much more than research.

“All the Right Moves” By: Becca Taylor

All the Right Moves is the story of:

Preston

A twenty-something program developer who is broken up with in the worst possible way. Chanel decides their relationship is not working, and decides it is prudent to provide Preston with a list of every reason he was not a good boyfriend.

This obviously shatters him and leads him on a search of what women REALLY want. Preston approaches this as a survey approaching women while he is out and observing interactions. through this he develops a list of things that will make him a better boyfriend.

All he needs now is a girl to try this out on…

Enter Tenley

Tenley has be best friends with Preston since they were seven years old and she has always harboured unrequited feelings for him. As time has passed she has accepted there will never be anything more then friendship for them.

Until one night when Preston arrives at her apartment and begs for her help, to test out his new knowledge on women. Preston proposes a 30 day timeframe in which they will be boyfriend and girlfriend and he will test out his theories, including: kissing, flirting, dating, and sex!!

Tenley obviously struggles with this idea due to her feelings, but in the end she agrees to help her best friend.

The 30 Days

What ensues is an unrequieted romance that pushes the boundaries of friendship and makes Preston and Tenley question whether they can be a couple after years of friendship. The question of “is it worth risking everything” plays an underlying theme throughout this book. Becca Taylor handles this magically not allowing the 30 day trial to overshadow the relationship between her two lead characters. The only question is can they go back after the 30 days? or is someone bound to end up hurt?

REVIEW

This book is comical and romantic throughout, lending an awkward realism to it. Everyone has likely experienced a platonic relationship at one time that they wondered “what if…”

What I love about this idea is that you instantly love the characters more than the story line, so you never stop rooting for them despite the humour in the “test”. I think the character development makes this book so easy to love, in fact I enjoyed it so much I read it in one sitting!

There is also the introduction of well thought out barriers to this budding relationship which builds tension but also allows the reader to really question where it will end. Will it be happily ever after? or is it doomed from the start?

I find romance can often come of as corny and insincere but in this book each page develops the plot or furthers the characters making it a true gem in the genre.

For fans of the movies “What Women Want” and “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”, you have found the unique/book equivalent. Grab this now for a captivating love story with all the obstacles, humor, and romance you desire!

100% in love with Preston!

All The Right Moves was just the book I needed at just the right time. You know when you are in a mood and you just can’t quite get out of it. Well let me tell you All The Right Moves pulled me right out of the funk I was in. The book brought a smile to my face throughout the entire time I was reading. It is not only entertaining but has lots of sweet, endearing and funny moments. I not only fell in love with Preston and Tenley but there friends too.

Preston is that down to earth, nerdy guy who doesn’t know what he is actually worth after his heart is “supposedly” broken after a long term relationship. (Now on a side note - I wanted to kick the Ex into the next century because she is just mean and cruel and I just didn’t like her but that’s my opinion). Fast forward to post break up and enter Preston’s brilliant idea - that he spent lots of time researching mind you - to “date” his best friend and test out his theories. What could possibly go wrong or right? You definitely have to read the book yourself and experience Preston and Tenley for yourself. Will the best friends be able to move from friendship to something more. Grab the book and check out the awkward, sexy and funny moments between the two!!

Preston and Tenley are just too cute and adorable. I loved getting to know them and there banter just made the book that much more fun and real. I devoured All the Right Moves in under a day and didn’t want to put it down. A definitely sweet 5 Star read in my books!!!

OHHHHHH PRESTON!!! I’ll have freaking donuts with you any day lol

I absolutely loved the progress of this best friends to lovers story!! After the whole ‘you’re the worst boyfriend ever’ announcement, the book went on amazingly!!! From the survey to conducting his 30 days experiment to having that extension period to the end, it was fun to see the progress of their relationship. It was just beautiful and enjoyable. I love a man who is humble enough to find out what he needs to become a better person...

The respect Preston had for his best friend during this ordeal was a swoon-worthy act!!! He wanted to know so much about what he’s done wrong, but was also mindful of his best friend to make sure he wasn’t crossing any lines without consent!! And given the world we live in these days, that’s something important, whether you know the person well or not.

Tenley is also amazing and I loved their relationship. Tenley, for some reason, her thoughts about her best friend was not cringing like I’ve read about in other books!! She had love and respect shown through her thoughts!!

This is a ONE-CLICK-WORTHY book!!! Beautifully written!!! Thank you BT for the arc... truly enjoyed this xX

OMG - Firstly, WTF is wrong with Chanel! Seriously!

First of all that damn list of what's wrong with him. Who has time to make a list, that...that...petty. 30 items! If he was that bad why'd she stay so long. And they were even real complaints!

Now I've got that out of my system, how good was this book!

I loved Tenley & Preston as besties. Anything more than that, well it would be a bonus. But to have that person who'd stand beside you no matter how many things were "wrong" with you, and support you regardless, that's what we all want.

Their friendship was real and genuine and full of banter that had me snickering like a school girl. Being able to watch while they figured out what was so damn obvious to anyone who wasn't them, was sidelines we all wanted to stand on as we cheered them on hoping to get the ending they deserved.

The highlight for me, maybe because I'm a bit twisted and like seeing the villain, in this case Chanel suffer, was the fact that her dream was actual a load of bulls**t!

Talyor does it again! Her books make me smile and that's all I could ever ask for!

"She was still my best friend, but something had shifted. Whenever we kissed, a voice in the back of my head kept asking why we hadn't done this sooner."

A sweet and funny friends to lovers, with endearing, and lovable characters that was a great way to escape over the weekend. Preston and Tenley have known each other since they were 7, best friends, but never considered more...until he was dumped by the most annoying creature known to man....it was like a slow aha moment, and I loved watching them both realize probably what they always should have. They were adorably hesitant, but once they let go, the flames reached the ceiling, they were so hot. Not without a few speed bumps, doubts, and problems along the way, it made for a fun, engrossing read!! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!!

"She was mine before. But after that night, she would be mine always. I wasn't letting her go. Even if she didn't know it, she wasn't letting go of me. Ever. "

I love friends to lovers romance so I knew I would love this book. I was right. I fell in love with Preston and Tenley. Preston and Tenley are the best of friends and were content with just being friends. Well, Preston was anyway. Tenley has been in love with her best friend for quite a while but wondered if they would ever be more. When Preston's girlfriend dumps him and gives him a list of reasons he is the worst boyfriend, Preston vows to prove her wrong and comes up with what he thinks is a foolproof plan and enlists Tenley's help with it. What could go wrong? Tenley can't help but wonder if she was crazy for agreeing to help Preston, knowing how she already felt about him and worried she would fall harder for him. I loved how charming and sweet Preston was and how loyal and caring Tenley was. I also loved Keaton and Kaitlin, who were not surprised by the new development between Preston and Tenley. This is the first book by Becca Taylor I have read and I can't wait to check out more of her books.

Before Preston’s girlfriend breaks up with him she gives him a list of all the reasons that he is the worst boyfriend ever. Deciding he needs to make some changes if he doesn’t want to be alone for the rest of his life he does some research and approaches his best friend Tenley so that he can practice on her.

Tenley has been best friends with Preston since they were seven years old. When he asks her to help she really wants to refuse as she doesn’t want to muddy their relationship, but she has never been able to deny him anything.

It is only a matter of time before practicing to become a fake boyfriend has him turning into a real one, but their journey to get there is full of humor, heat and love. This is my first story by this author, but I would definitely read her future books.

I have read other books from this author, so I was not surprised in how much I loved it! It is filled with heart melting moments that includes some extra spicy (wink wink). Tenley and Preston bring us a story about a long term friendship that turns into more (eek). I love both these characters because they feel like everyday people trying to figure out relationships. Oh don’t get me wrong, they are far from boring and have a juicy tale to tell (hee hee). Umm as a outsider looking in, you can see the flaw in their plan but can’t help needing to experience all with them (ugh). Yes miscommunication is a strong part of this story (yikes). You might want to shake someone at times (haha). Definitely going on my sweet, spicy romantic list. Happy Reading!

After Preston is called “the worse boyfriend”, he does some research into what women want, and to try out his theory, he gets his best friend Tenley to help him. These two have been best friends since childhood, so will this experiment open both of their eyes to the possibility of more? Will they move from friends / lovers? No spoilers; this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed! This is a beautifully written story, which is sweet, endearing, humorous, and entertaining. I was totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and look forward to reading more from this talented author. I highly recommend this authors’ work for all readers.

All the right moves by Becca Taylor a five-star read that has all the good moves. This author has a way to write sweet and funny that will make you chuckle, there is just the right amount of steaminess to make it believable and true to life. Preston is a good guy, who hasn’t always done the right things and now he wants to do it right. His story was great, it was so nice to hear his voice telling us the story. Betsie Tenley was good as well, she took a few pages to warm to, but overall also very funny. This was a great story and I can’t wait to read more form this author her talent for bringing drama but keeping it funny and real at the same time, making her a great storyteller.

Best Friends forever to lovers? Can it be that good & true?
It’s amazing what you will ask of your best friends when you have insecurities... the question is, will that best friend be able to do what you ask? Especially when their own heart is at risk?
This book shows you just how sometimes, you think you know everything about someone & you really don’t. I absolutely loved this book & the characters!!! OMGOODNESS! I fell in love with them! Of course I really wish we could’ve seen Chanel get her butt handed to her.

Original review: https://myshelfbooks.wordpress.com/20...

What is the main thing I expect from a Romantic Comedy novel? To have some good laughs along the romance. Witty banter and funny situations. Some belly ache due to a really bad joke. Sense of humor in general. So, let me be disappointed if a so-called Romantic Comedy is anything except comedic. It’s harsh, but it is the truth. Nonetheless, it’s a nice reading that I have enjoyed.

The story is mostly told from the point of view of Preston, a 25-yearl-old guy whose girlfriend has just dumped him. That same girlfriend wrote a list about the worst attributes of Preston and that made the guy to apply his statistical skills to forge his own list with the steps to become the perfect date. On the other hand we have Tenñey, the best friend forever of said guy who has always been in love with him but has neves got the guts to say something fearing it could destroy their friendship. Lucky for her, Preston decides that she would be the perfect guinea pig for his recently minted list to become a mind-blowing lover.

When I read the blurb I was so down for this. I thought that Preston was going to be kind of a crappy guy whose cockiness would let him believe he could make a list to be irresistible to any girl. I was expecting the sweet erosion of the macho male realizing little by little that what he has is not what women want. The typical case of the caterpillar becoming a butterfly. A path that should be ridden with lots of funny situations and banter. But the truth is far from that and it’s the main issue I have with this book. All the plot is based on Chanel breaking up with Preston because he sucks at everything surrounding a romantic couple. But since the beginning we take notice that Chanel’s opinion doesn’t hold any weight. She is stuck in her teenage years and all her comments in the book are petty and utterly immature. So… why the hell Preston takes it so seriously??? He makes the list to become a better boyfriend, but he doesn’t really need one and he barely uses it during the book. What I was sold as the foundation of the story is just a passing moment that doesn’t make any sense…

For the sake of the story, I tried to believe that Preston needed the list and I was ready to enjoy his application of said ways to improve himself. Here comes the second issue. He picks his best friend, Tenley, to test it out. I don’t know if it was meant to be a funny situation, but for me was very awkward and not enjoyable at all. So yes, the beginning of this book wasn’t working for me. I had too many issues with it and none of the humor I was promised. Thankfully, once the first barrier is passed; it is pretty easy to start getting along with the main characters.

The main strength, and I dare to say the only one, is the cast of the book. Alone, Preston and Tenley are nothing out of the extraordinary, but together… There is nothing better in a Romance book that a couple you totally believe in. The author sold me the purest love she could come up with and I bought it!! They are so sweet together that the sex scenes, even when falling in the light espectrum, are really hot. I also have to thank the author for using Preston point of view during some of those scenes. In many M/F books with dual point of view, the sexy times are always related from the woman point of view; so this has been a welcome change.

The peak moment is almost at the end, when their love story is beautifully summarized with just one word: right. That is how it felt and I approve that the author didn’t try to overexplain their feelings. It wasn’t needed. It’s one of those cases where the love is so obvious that trying to rationalize it would ruin it. I even cried a little bit, becasue I felt truly happy for them. Yes, the couple won me over and I was totally invested.

It’s an uneventful book that I would never label it as Romantic Comedy with a misleading blurb and really sloppy beginning, but it compensates some of those weaknesses with a great couple. This is a standalone book, but it seems the author has created a Universe where all her books take place; so the characters could appear in other works. I’m curious. I’m a sucker for interconnected stories. I wasn’t impressed with the book, but learning about that has made me check more of Becca’s books.

Cute, Simple Story

Preston and Tenley have ben best friends since childhood. They grew up together call mom went to college together, and or even neighbors were there currently living. Preston has been dating his girlfriend for several years when she dumped him out of the blue. She left him a list of things that made him a terrible boyfriend. Preston decides he needs to fix all those things that she said about him and approaches Tenley with a proposition for her to help him. Tammy has had feelings for Preston all their lives. They start working through the list, but then Preston realizes he wants more so they become girlfriend and boyfriend. Their relationship goes really well until one night when something happens. It’s not something that can’t be fixed, but other things get in the way of them resolving the issue at that time. It does have an HEA though. This is my first book by Becker Taylor and it was cute.

These was the first time I have read anything by Becca Taylor. I love this friends to lovers story. After Preston was told he was the worst boyfriend with a list of 30 wrongs. Preston, being a stats guy decided to go into full research mode. He made a deal with his best friend and neighbor Tenley to go 30 days of dating and being a couple so he could do the research. After 30 days they would go back to the way it was before. It never can go back. This was a wonderful story and I really liked the characters. I know I will be reading more from Becca Taylor.

All the right feels

This was a new author to me and I have really enjoyed reading predominantly from the guys perspective, it has been a refreshing change.

This was a well written book, great story and really believable characters, with some notable moments of swoon.

Preston was definitely a new man after his research and Tenley was the lucky lady to profit from it.

If you are thinking of reading this book, please do it won’t disappoint.

Sweet and steamy childhood best friend romance

After being dumped by his longtime girlfriend and told he was the worst boyfriend ever, Preston turns to his best friend Tenley for lessons and practice on not only being a better boyfriend but HER best boyfriend. Sweet and steamy story, the hero showed vulnerability which was nice. I loved it.

Spicy romance with substance

I haven’t read romance in a long time but this one has genuine relationships especially including the characters’ self doubts and insecurities. Very plausible plot, too. And, of course, with a happy ending. Although the characters are much younger than me, I could remember having the same feelings. I would recommend to anyone interested in romance.
