Christine Zane Thomas is the pen name of a husband and wife team whose love of mystery and sleuths spurred the creation of their own mysterious writer alter-ego.
While not writing, they can be found in northwest Florida with their two children and schnauzer, Tinker Bell.
Their love of food takes them all around the South. Sometimes they sprinkle in the occasional trip to Disney World. Food and Wine is their favorite season.
This series is very easy to read and is a very low key yet fun mystery. I haven't been able to predict the killer either time, but I love seeing Allie work through the crime. I am really enjoying seeing more of Allie and Kate's friendship and I hope that continues to be prevalent in the series.
I'm not a big fan of this new guy who was added as a love interest. Like he's fine and whatever, but there was such a spark between Allie and Javier and I really want to see where it will go. But now he has a girlfriend!? WHY. Ugh i am distraught. Guess I'll have to read the next one LOL!
Rep: female MC with anxiety--has anxiety/panic attacks, BIPOC love interest that is a detective.
CWs: Alcohol consumption, body shaming (and comments about the MC's appearance), death/death of parent (side character's parent), fatphobia, fire/fire injury, gun violence, murder, mental illness (anxiety/panic attacks), grief.
This was another fun and well-written installment in this new series. I can't say I'm a fan of having another guy interest for Allie, but I trust the authors and hope it will work out for the best for her. (Can't help it, I'm Team Javi lol) Her friend Kate had set her up with a friend of her own boyfriend, Marcus.
It was January in Lanai, Georgia. Allie was attending a murder mystery party with Luke, a friend of Marcus', but her attendance was to do an article for her restaurant review column in the paper. The evening festivities came to a grinding halt when George, the owner of the venue and Allie's main boss collapsed and died after his welcoming announcement. Since Allie's immediate supervisor wanted an article on George himself, this gave Allie plenty of opportunity to investigate the people she and Kate had put on their own suspect list. It was a little awkward when she'd run into Javi, but she still seemed just as happy to see him even though she'd been on a couple of dates with Luke.
This was a nice, quick read and once again I didn't guess the killer until the clues were dropped about it.
She’s really hitting her stride. The plot moved along at a clip. The romance subplot is getting even more interesting. Even the side characters shine in this installment.
This is the second book in the series. I really enjoyed meeting more characters in Allies world especially her new man. I thought the love triangle was a cute addition to this cozy mystery series. Can't wait to read the next book!
kindle unlimited {Comics and Coffee Case Files are NOT ku} and since had read the one just mentioned {only one out of series so far} thought would give these try {2 out so far, 3 soonish}, while usually wait until 3 books out took look at 1 & 2 and just not happening, more modern type of cozy yet at same time wants to act as if certain southern things haven't gone along with times when have for millenials at least, so cozies/who done it-s didn't make sense, red herrings didn't make sense, killer reveals didn't make sense, after reading 2 out so far going to give series an I ain't reading this no more, only giving high as 2 because premise/writing overall basically decent tho execution lacking & really lacked southern euphimisms/sayings and ways of saying things, still with both books totally lacked actual who done it reveal that made real sense {& read MASSIVE amounts of mysteries/cozies}. Not sure if real writer name {combo of 2 writers/husband wife team} made difference, wouldn't think so because can't remember his name but know I still read his stuff. Won't be reading these though.

I enjoyed this quick listen. This is book two in the series and you don't need to have listened to book one to enjoy but it might get a bit confusing at the start of the book with all the characters meeting up and having to use there acting names, so In some ways knowing the characters already did help. I like the characters and the unusual job of the main character, this book wasn't as bad as the first book but don't listen if you are hungry or on a diet. The mystery was good and did keep you guessing. I look forward to starting the next book to see if the love triangle gets anymore complicated. Allie as a food critic for the newspaper is invited to the opening night of a murder mystery dinner, where the customers each get to play a part of a gangster or moll for the night. Every body takes part in the event and dresses up but somebody takes it to seriously and kills the owner. A real death was never meant to be part of the entertainment but Allie and her friends are the quickest to react when they notice something was wrong and they soon discover he was poisoned. They find out the bar way then one of there own gets sick. All the evidence points the police to one person but Allie doesn't believe he his capable of murder and sets about asking questions, well she has to find out information to write an article for the paper, so why not ask for there alibi's? I like the narrator, she gives each of the characters there own unique voice so you have no problems following along with the story.
Another good one and this carried all throughout the book. A plot of love, a murder mystery and an actual murder. The main character is coming out of her shell but which man will she end up with. The hunky but unavailable detective or the handsome but no food critic sales rep. They are all going to the grand reopening of the biggest and grandest building in town. A 1920's murder mystery and all are in full 1920's attire. No-one expected the host to suddenly fall down dead. Who killed him? Was it his new love interest? His grasping business partner? Or was it the errant son who got kicked out of the event before it started? As she and her BFF look into it she discovers secrets she wished she hadn't. Will she find the killer or will the killer find her?
Allie Treadwell, is a food blogger and restaurant reviewer. She is invited to the grand opening of Lanai’s newest attraction, a murder mystery dinner party, she expects a night of fun, good food, and mystery. An actual murder wasn't on the menu. As Allie sees a huge miscarriage of justice, an innocent man arrested for the murder, she does what she does so well.....she uses her words to help free him. She also uncovers clues to a conspiracy. Now her own words might get her killed! How does this one turn out? You will need to read the book to find the answer.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review. This was so hard to put down, just wanted to keep reading. Allie and Kate go to a Murder Mystery Dinner and of course, a real murder happens. Who done it? I have a new favorite author. I loved this book and can't wait for the next book from Christine Zane Thomas. I highly recommend this book and any others by this author.
This is another good mystery with likable characters and an interesting plot. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series, and hope to see what happens with Allie's love life.
A different twists, when Allie uses her power in words to help solve a murder. As a reviewer she was invited to a party which murder was not on the menu. Good series, and quirky characters. A delight to listen to the narration. Given audio for my voluntary review and
