No surprises in the plot here- this is a book version of Disney’s Lion King movie. The art is really well done, and the story flows well.

What I appreciate about this version is the ability to skip over the part with mufasa and the gorge fairly easily without an awkward break in the story. I have a very sensitive youngster, and for the first 4 years, I just clipped those pages together so it didn’t seem like we were even skipping anything.

Warning for parents of sensitive kiddos:
1) the gorge scene is sad, but as I mentioned, it’s pretty easy to skip
2) two of the other illustrations (one of mufasa, and one of Nala) depict them as aggressive and baring their teeth which may be frightening for little ones
3) talks of Simba “fibbing” to his mother
4) talks of battle and killing

Overall, if you know what you’re getting into with the lion king, this version of the book is a good one. And, as we did for our sensitive kid, the scary parts can be skipped, and a few words (fibbing, killed, etc) modified to make it friendly for all ages and temperaments.

4.5 stars. Another book purchased for my friend’s newborn. While this is more advanced than for a newborn, I couldn’t not get this as The Lion King has been such a huge part of my childhood. Just reading it to her baby as he looks at the pictures will be wonderful, and when he gets older, he’ll be able to read it himself!

My favorite Disney movie in book form! It was missing some key parts for me but was still an enjoyable read. 🩷🦁
