Keep it simple, chic and contemporary! So says Erika, textile designer and fashion design consultant, whose trademark has been the traditional with a twist. Coming into knitting via fine art training, she is highly regarded in her field and works for many international companies designing ready-to-wear ranges. Author of Comforts of Home (Martingale), her latest book is Simple Knits for Cherished Babies (Collins & Brown).
I am a novice knitter, returning to it for the second time. My downstairs neighbor is a master knitter with a generous daughter who cheers me on. She bought me this book to encourage me and boy, did it. Every project is modern and inspiring. I keep looking through it as I make pedestrian projects, perfecting my skills. I aspire to make everything in this book.
I can’t wait to do the projects in this book. The author has great tips about how to match colors and how to do different stitches which motivates me to try more knitting projects.
Simple ideas for a beginner to intermediate knitter. Cute photos, but I would only borrow this book instead of buying because there isn't enough projects to justify the price. Borrowed from that library 3 stars
Most of the projects did not appeal to me (nothing wrong with them just not my style), but thought the general info on techniques and the nice photos of how each technique looks was great. Considering aspects of the slouch sock project for incorporation into other socks I'm knitting. The slip stitch scarf is nice done in 4 colors, as are the boot toppers (not sure of practicality of these items in general but guess it's a way to use up scarps of yarn and improve your style!).
Erica Knight books are often unexpected with what they deliver. The patterns are simple but the color work is modern and sophisticated. Before you get to the 20 projects, she guides you through the basics of knitting, color theory, different color techniques (not just Fair Isle), and shows many swatches. Wish there were MORE swatches and garment projects. Great reference and inspiration book!
A good first read about color knitting. Made me feel more confident to look at the other color books I was reading that day. I'm not a big fan of all the worsted and bigger yarn projects, but the fair isle used finer yarn.
Terrible charts. The charts look like they are made in water colors which may be pretty to look at but are very difficult to decipher and figure out what color you are supposed to be using. The patterns I think are also amaturish looking.
I won a copy of this book from a Goodreads Giveaway (thank you!). I am not a skilled knitter but I have been pleased when looking through this book because there is a lot of detail in explanations as well as great pictures to help you follow along. This is a well put together knitting book.
