This and Dinosaur Rocks (see fishpond.co.nz) are my favourite dinosaur books. I get rather tired of the cutsey dinosaur books. This one shows dinosaurs being dinosaurs. Hunting and killing as well as being part of a loving family. Its the story of a dinosaur whose pack is lost in a volcanic eruption who then has to move on with her life, fending for herself and trying to join another pack.

This is a beautifully illustrated, touching story about the hardships that a young deinonychus faces after surviving a fire and loosing his pack.
