I finally feel like I understand all of our Catholic Advent/Christmas traditions after reading this. Helped me decide which traditions I want to implement into my family.
A very handy little book going over the holy days of the Advent and Christmas seasons. I found it informative as it detailed the history of the days we celebrate. The perfect guide to keeping “Christ” in Christmas.
I learned so much with this book. I found the information in it very educational and it's a fast read. There's so much information in it that I never knew. Do you know the meaning behind the lyrics of A Partridge in a Pear Tree? Most people know that the Christmas tree came from Germany, but do you know which Saint was instrumental behind it and its story? Other topics it covers are the special feast days during advent, the origins of Advent, the Advent wreath and much more.
Growing up Catholic and also attending a Catholic school, I had learned about many of the stories and traditions in this book....however recently I have returned to my Catholic faith so have been reading books immersed in the traditions and reasons. reading this I was surprised to find things i didn’t know, and hadn’t heard before. Definitely gives a new perspective on the Christmas season and would recommend to anyone searching for more this Christmas.
This book begins with advent and covers feast days and traditions of Advent and Christmas, going to the Presentation (Candlemas day). It is a good book to understand those things better and especially good as an accompaniment when journeying through Advent and Christmas.
A short but informative book with good ideas for making the entire Advent and Christmas seasons truly special and Christ-centered. I definitely learned some new history and traditions I didn’t know of before.
Any book that inspires a trip to Confession is a good one! In an approachable, conversational tone, Fr. Saunders shares the theology behind the customs and traditions of the Advent and Christmas seasons. Beautiful illustrations and thick paper make this a lovely coffee table book for the season!
