The last memory Anissa Alto has is watching the destruction of the research ship Spindle by a rival scientist and being unable to do anything about it. The next thing she knows, she’s waking up in an unfamiliar sickbay one hundred years later, surrounded by a crew of xeno-archaeologists led by Dr. Benedict Sawyer.
Sawyer’s plan was dig up the artifact resting in the bottom of a pit on an uninhabited planet, become an academic superstar, and never teach undergraduates again. The artifact turning out to be a woman from a neighboring star system put into stasis throws his dreams of student-free research off-kilter, as does Anissa herself.
Anissa knows who destroyed the Spindle and why, and that the perpetrator is still out there a century later. But as she and Sawyer investigate, it becomes clear that the reason for the ship’s destruction is more than a case of scientific rivalry taken to the extreme and something far more sinister.

Okay story about a bad dad, a lost girl, and two people who need someone to count on. It seems like it took a long time for them to get to the main plot and then it was over.

2 stars.
A story set in Space where a girl gets awoken to discover that 104 years have passed...? This sounded like it was going to be great but what I got was, Meh. While this story started off strong, grabbing my attention and shutting everything else around me out, the story started to slide downhill pretty fast until it settled at mildly interesting to a bit boring and stayed at that mark the whole rest of the way through. Now with saying that, obviously its more me than the book as I've read the few reviews (its still early days for this book), and they have been very positive. So what exactly was it that made me lose interest? I think it's that the story lost just that. An actual story. I felt like nothing much happened for ages and that's where I grew bored. It was a challenge to get through and I haven't made up my mind about the cover yet. Im not sure if its a bit or miss. It seems to have fallen into that fine line area of being on the edge of both sides.
So would I suggest others read this? Yeah sure. While it's not a hit from me, as I mentioned, it has been a hit for others. So yeah, give it a go. You may love it.
This is my first book by this author and I was really excited about the concept of a science fiction sleeping beauty. The story started out strong. Others mentioned they were confused about the timing, but I followed easily and didn't have a problem with the first few chapters. I loved that Anissa was a strong woman, ex-military even, and when she first wakes up on Benedict's ship that part of her life shines. No spoilers, but I thought, yeah! The beginning of the book really set up the expectations for me. Sadly things sort of petered out after a while. I kept waiting for the action to start. Everything had been set up for a great chase, some intense fight scenes, something. However, the only action scenes were the sex scenes which I skipped. Perhaps I was simply looking for something else, but I felt like not much happened. I give Spindle's End a 3.5 and R rating on my scale. The writing was good, no major typos that threw me out. The concept was good, the beginning was awesome. That's why I knocked off the half point. I didn't feel the promise of those first chapters was met. The story fell short of it's potential and I think this writer has it in them to dig a little deeper. The R rating is for the language and sex scenes, there wasn't any violence to mention.

1-5 scale and what it means: 1: I couldn’t even finish it / just plain bad 2: I hope I didn’t pay for this / disappointing 3: I didn’t hate it, but it was still missing something / forgettable but inoffensive 3.5: On the line between good and ok / like, not love 4: Solid mind candy / worth reading 4.5: So very close to perfection! / must read 5: I could not put it down and I’m still thinking about it! / a true treasure
Movie Ratings in relation to my review: Clean--Hallmark movies, some kissing, no nudity, no sex on or off "screen" PG--Some innuendo but nothing kids don't hear every day, sex is all closed door PG-13--some language (swear words not related to sex), more talk about sex, heavy petting, removal of clothing on screen, but sex is closed door. PG-14—somewhere between PG-13 and R. Not erotica, but at least a paragraph of on-screen sex R--swearing (F-bomb, on “screen” sex, sometimes feels like the whole story is about the sex and not the relationship or some other plot, but not always
The space opera is excessively dependent on Star Trek, and has asteroid fields, extremely short trips over interplanetary distances, and all the usual nonsense, though at least the ship does need fueling (often not the case in space opera).
The romance... well, there's a period of "We can't be together because reasons," and then basically a Doc Brown moment: "But then I figured, what the hell?" And that's the romance subplot. Though at least the hero understands consent, and that a kiss from a woman who's very drunk is not it.
The main plot is totally dependent on a massive coincidence; the villain is about to retrieve something that's been sitting there undiscovered for 104 years, and the protagonists get there first by pure chance.
Two characters have basically the exact same parental issues.
Apart from that, it's pretty mediocre. Not great, but could be a lot worse. A solid three stars.
Our heroine wakes up after a hundred years in stasis, only to find the same enemy still haunts her.
Science fiction is my favorite genre and I am always looking for new and intriguing stories. Throw in some strong characters and an intriguing plot and I am hooked. For me, this story provided everything I need in the form of a strong female character and a mystery to solve.
I found the story to be well written, with strong well developed characters and an engaging plot. While it didn't keep me up at night, I looked forward to reading the next couple of chapters as soon as I got the chance. Overall, I found it to be a fun and entertaining read and look forward to more by this author.
Highly recommended.

This is a relatively new author for me, only my second book by her, and I am very glad that I chose to read this book. At first, I was a bit confused as it jumps around from past to present but by Chapter 3, I was with it as to who was who and from what time period! From there the book got better and better soon realized that I didn’t want to put the book down to do things like make lunch or even get a drink! There is lots of action and unexpected events in this story. It’s a great plot and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

This was so interesting to read. I was drawn in more by the drama and actual story line than by the romance part, for once. I guess I felt Anissa and Sawyers chemistry wasnt all that strong. Even without strong chemistry, there was most certainly both sweet and steamy parts. Overall, I would recommend this book. Happy reading! Rating 4 stars

When I started the book I felt a bit confused and it took some time to get myself situated in the story. After that, it was easy to enjoy it. The characters were well-developed, the plot well-written, I recommend it to any lover of space adventure.
