Zombie Dog #3

Zombie Dog

You have to be there for your dog. On any search, your dog is the only one who didn’t volunteer for this work.Murder has always been there for Angie. He stood loyally by her side in the Colorado wildfires, and he led her to safety in Big Bend National Park. But now they are hunting zombies in the city, joining the City of Houston Zombie Task Force. Their mission is to discover the source of weaponized zombies and prevent gangs from using them. Working with police detectives and curanderos, Angie and Murder work their way through Houston’s criminal underworld, but at what price? Angie must remember, Murder is her responsibility, and he is her loyal friend. Can she protect him as well as he has protected her?+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++-Of the first three books, this one is the "squirmiest." The first chapter, in particular, ends viscerally. Just a note to the reader.-Disaster City is a real place. While the training scene that takes place there is different from training that normally occurs there, I have trained in Disaster City with my cadaver dog.-I learned about the form of brujo's curse used in the book during research I was doing into curanderismo.-The large underground system exists in Houston. You can take tours.

I live in Houston, but I was raised in Lubbock, Texas. I’m an animal writer. It doesn’t matter if the animals I write about are zombie-hunting dogs, dinosaurs, or giant kaiju monsters, I’m interested in that area where animals and humans intersect. I’m especially curious about the mind meld that happens with working animals. This is my point of view for examining human nature, and why I enjoy writing these books so much.

My site says I’m a writer and an explorer. My wife and I are “often” travelers. Thanks to my work, I sometimes get the opportunity to visit extraordinary people in out-of-the-way places. In recent years I’ve explored parts of the Navajo Nation, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and I did a mesmerizing 20-state roadtrip with my supportive family. I’ve been to all but four states in the United States.

I live with two awesome kids (though one is having her own adventures in college), one amazing wife, and two white German Shepherds. Thank you for stopping by, and please check out one of my books. (They are all available from Amazon as paperbacks and e-books.) Since mid-2019, I’ve been donating twenty percent of my proceeds to charity. If you want to see where I donate, I update my donations via my newsletter.

Disclaimer: I was sent a copy of this book by the author, Doug Goodman, for an honest review

Opinion:

H-O-L-Y S**T Doug Goodman.

You just took this zombie series to a whole new level of disturbing, dark and twisted!

GOOD-BYE fluffy tale of a woman and her dog hunting corpses controlled by giant wasps…

HELL-O seriously deranged, body tensing book of 100% pure horror!

I can’t…look…away…

description

I love it.

They succeeded in the Colorado wildfires and survived the dangerous chase into Big Bend National Park. But back in Houston, “Ground Zero” for the wasp outbreak, Angie and Murder’s zombie tracking services are needed more than ever. Reports have been flooding into Houston PD of gangs weaponizing zombies, missing persons reports, and suburban homes that may be hiding monstrous creatures. Enlisted to assist the Houston Zombie Task Force, Angie and Murder begin working diligently to hunt the living corpses into extinction, all while helping form the Zombie Squad of other tracking dogs. But as the task force comes closer to uncovering the reason for the disappearances and Frankenstein zombies, they find something much more grotesque than they had ever expected.

Run for your lives, kids.

The wasps are multiplying.

…

I am honestly SO shocked with Zombie Dog, I’m not even sure how to begin.

I have fallen in love with Angie and Murder over the years, looked forward to their amazing and dangerous adventures, and delighted in their resilience. So as I began book 3 in the Zombie Dog series, I expected to feel much of the same mild, skin-crawly vibes and elated adoration for these two amazing characters. But what Doug Goodman has given the reader in this installment is…
…so much more than I could have ever asked for in this series.

I am severely disturbed by the gruesome evolution and reproducing of these zombies, obsessed with the Curandero elements, and beyond impressed with the detail and OBVIOUS research this author has done. Books 1 and 2 don’t even compare to the gut-punch that this book is! It is horrific, it is emotional, it is touching, exciting and borderline demented! Look, I thought wasps with giant stingers kidnapping people was bad…

…but what they’re doing NOW?!?!

THIS IS SO MUCH WORSE!!!!!

Goodman has raised the “what in the actual f**k” bar by about 1,000,000 Scoville. I’m sweating, I’m frightened, I’m cringing into the couch whimpering and wailing like a six-year-old version of myself that sees a spider free-falling from the ceiling towards her face.

description

There is SO much happening in this story. Gangs are turning zombies into walking death traps by attaching saws, blades, nails and metal armor to their bodies. Dogs Chainsaw and Kali are being trained to join the Zombie Squad in hunting down the growing wasps. Elements of voodoo and magic (can I call this magic?) are intertwined FLAWLESSLY into the story, making it nearly impossible to remember this is fiction. And the pregnant women are…

…*sigh*…the pregnant women…

But I think what is really impressing me, is Angie. Her character makes SUCH strides in this installment. She has blossomed from a somewhat cold and serious character to this beautiful, loving and fiercely passionate woman! She’s still as sarcastic and fiery as ever, don’t you worry! But in Zombie Dog I feel like I finally get to KNOW who she is. The author really took the time to go much more in depth with Angie and Murder, and it is something I didn’t even know I needed until I was immersed in it.

I know Doug Goodman is a huge outdoor enthusiast and previously worked in search and rescue, so I can never be surprised by the amount of resources that he pulls into his stories. This author goes above and beyond to give you EXACT directions to areas of Houston, precise details of how a task force/police unit is assembled and organized, and an easy and exciting understanding of how to read a dog when they are on a scent. These books aren’t just thrilling rides of fiction, they are pamphlets of knowledge and survivalist tools. This author literally puts everything he has into creating these books, and it is shouting through the pages. I wish more authors would put the amount of effort and heart into their work, as much as Doug Goodman obviously does.

Goodman lives and breathes the outdoors and the connection between man and dog, and it shows in every word that he shares on these pages.

Zombie Dog will keep you up turning the pages. At its centre, the protagonist is slightly uptight Angie, with her unfailing sense of responsibility. Angie’s sense of responsibility is as much a flaw as an asset, as she follows Murder into dark places with Sigourney Weaver-like regularity. I loved the way local mythology is woven in to the mystery, with the intrepid investigators following up on a brujo’s curse. And certain leads are not for the squeamish! What’s more, the science behind the zombie weaponisation was revealed in a way which made it plausible (yes, I know, in a zombie novel!). I hadn’t read the first two books, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying Zombie Dog, although readers who prefer a completed story will be disappointed as this one finishes on a doozy of a cliff-hanger. The good news is the next book in the series is out in just a couple of months, so by the time you read the first three over the holidays, the next one should be ready for you.

Doug Goodman continues the adventures of Angie and Murder as they face dangers of the natural and supernatural kind. I think the reason I love this series so much is how Goodman translates Angie’s and Murder’s relationship into words that tugs at my heart. Humans and dogs have a unique relationship through evolution. I often think of Harlan Ellison’s A Boy and His Dog that expresses the man-dog connection in the most horrific way. (Yes, that story has scarred me for life).

Zombie Dog, though, is a thrilling adventure loaded with zombies, deadly gang members, and mutant wasps. Goodman finds ways to take twisted plots and twist them even more! I cringed at the thought how the wasps evolved (you will too). There’s lots of action, zombies you won’t expect, and situations that have you squirming as you read further to find relief. The book doesn’t end in a whimper. You get both barrels discharged in your face. I give Zombie Dog five-stars and can’t wait for the spring of 2019 to read the next book in the series.

This is more intense than previous parts of the series, and longer, too.
Lots of things happen to them, while they are, now, part of a special Task Force dedicated to hunt down the zombies, especially after they find those zombies being armed with various hand weapons - they learn that a gang is weaponizing the zombies and they need to find why, also.
Angie also helps certifying 2 new dogs as zomby dogs/hunters for those dreaded wasps
The ending is quite alert, the 3 teams of zomby searchers having it's own lead to follow in the city, cemetary, in the sewer tunnel.
Actually it ends with Angie and Murder being inside the sewer tunnel, right in the middle of the wasps lair, and just about to face a heavy attack from a large number of them, and with practically no light left :-D
What an incentive to grab the next volume if the series

I hate cliffhangers

If I didn’t like these books so much I would never read another! Cliffhangers make me want to stop reading a series particularly when the next book is not out until next year. These are great books and the cliffhangers are my only real complaint.

Reading other reviews, the main issue with this book in the series is the fact that it ends on a "cliffhanger". That didn't/doesn't bother me right now as book 4 is published so I don't have to wait to find out how it all "ends".

The same cast of characters is there...Angie, Lisa, Dee, and Dr. Sorento (?) but Tyler doesn't make an appearance. Right now Angie is working for the Harris PD and organizing/training a group of dog handlers for zombie detection. For me, the most interesting character is Santa Anna an old holistic physician. Along the way, Murder gets injured and Santa Anna helps him recover, someone close to one of the main characters turns out to be a bad guy masquerading as a wasp assistant.

While Wendy and the Lone Stars are mentioned, they are not part of this story. Tyler is not part of this particular book either and neither is Angie's father. :(

This time Murder has to hunt zombies and their hitchhiking wasps in the city of Houston. Note: the zombies are hiding en mass in a very good place!

I can't get enough of Angie and Murder! In Zombie Dog (Zombie Dog Series Book 3) Murder and Angie are now living and working in Houston, tracking wasps when the Houston Police bring them in to help with the newest threat: weaponized zombies. The local gangs have been setting zombies loose on their enemies and breeding a new type of wasp that incubates in an unimaginable and unthinkable way. Murder is joined by two more newly certified Zombie Dogs to track the source of the weaponized zombies and help save the innocent victims the gangs are using to incubate their new wasps, but will they be able to get to them in time?

Death walks

A different kind of zombie is a draw. Monstrous and a product of Crimson Wasp venom, they’re are a thing of nightmares. Add to them weaponising by evil men and you have a great story. But add in Murder, fictions best dog character and Maddie his family and handler, then this is a story way past great. If I could give it many more start then I would for this series shines with knowledge and a love of dogs. It will be sad to see the series end!

Hidden dangers

Angie and Murder struggle to help rescue the victims of the zombie wasps. Training more dogs to track the wasps feels like the right thing to do. Now the gangs are breeding wasps and weaponizing the zombies and ambushing law enforcement. Angie
worries about the safety of Murder and her team. Can they make a difference? Lots of surprises, can’t wait for the next book.

Zombie Dog....is Murder!

Angie and her zombie wasp hunting dog Murder, have relocated to Houston. Setting up "zombie dog" certifications, they discover a terrifying secret: the zombies are being weaponized . But more is happening than Angie is aware of; deceit and betrayal swirl around Angie and her dog, as both are drawn deeper and deeper into Evil's trap...

A good suspenseful story with lots of action. Has a cliffhanger.

Angie and her Zombie dog, Murder, hunt zombies for police. Murder is not a zombie. He hunts them. Zombies are being created in Texas, and they are connected to street gangs. This book is filled with action, suspense and even magic. I like the characters, and the Zombie dogs.

I don't creep out easily but each one of the books in this series have done it so far. The writer knows his niche and does it well. The only thing I hate is that I have to finish the complete book, non-stop reading. So, if a cliffhanger is tossed in, it blows me away. Otherwise this would have been a five star. Overall the book just keeps raising the bar for horror/creep.

I love Murder the dog and Angie, his trainer and BFF. The storyline is tense and just keeps pulling me in, but, the cliffhanger nearly made my heart seize! I highly recommend the entire series, which should be read in order to avoid major confusion. Now, I’m off to get book 4, hurray!

Dog Handler vs Zombie. This book read like a training story for K-9 dogs. Increasingly it would pick up the pace but over all I felt like there were too many descriptive words compared to actual plot words. Zombies are disgusting enough without adding insects!

Another great story about Murder the dog

In this book The gangs are into Angie and Murder and are trying to stop them before they can interrupt their zombie wasp breeding business. Zombie dogs, bad voodoo and Murder being shot are just a few of the high lights!

3.5

The story seems to be turning into a mystery with monsters. Hate to tell you but this is a hard core cliffhanger. Not sure why good authors do this, except for money, as most readers find it offensive.

Doug Goodman knows how to keep you wanting and reading more. Angie and Murder are a fantastic couple of characters and now there are 2 more teams to keep the wasps and zombies at bay. I really enjoy this series and look forward to getting into book 4.

Each book is better than the last, more creepy and disgusting and fantastically interesting. my only concern with this one is that Doug seems to have forgotten that Chainsaw and Kali are female towards the end of the book, but otherwise fantastic. solid 9/10.

Love the book, but not the ending
The great idea, setting, plot, and characters for this series usually makes me happy. The first two books in the series did not disappoint even with heartbreaking death and destruction, and things can get better, but this time at the high, or low, point depending on your view, the books id done and it cuts off with a scream and info about Book 4 explaining it will be awhile.
I already have the next in the series, so I don't have to wait. I am on tenterhooks including pins and needles, plus annoyance as I have to stop now and get a few hours in doing other things.
Highly recommend if you are into zombie stories. But, this also means mayhem and death do occur - sometimes with recoveries, but not always. I'll get back to number four soon.
