“Benny Lewis rocks!” – Tim Ferriss, author, the Four Hour Working Week

“Benny was enormously helpful in planning my year without English." - Scott Young, Rapid Learner

Benny's destiny was to never speak Spanish, or any other language.

At school he spent years studying Irish and German. Even after all this study, he still couldn't speak them.

By the time he reached his 20's he could only speak English.

Yet he ignored the call of destiny, and decided to learn Spanish anyway.

These days, Benny speaks over 10 languages - all self-taught - and runs the world's most popular language learning blog, Fluent in 3 Months.

How has he achieved this? He's devoted his adult life to discovering "language hacks" - faster and smarter ways to learn a new language.

It was alright. The first half felt very huckster-y (surely you can recognize that the methods most people use might just not work for you, instead of shitting on them entirely?) but the second half had some interesting ideas for practicing with tutors.

Practical case for the study of a language, it shows some tools that you can use, although due to the times where technology is outdated quickly, in the short future I think they will be somewhat obsolete

Speak the language over anything else

A well-needed reminder that if I want to learn how to actually speak French I better start speaking it instead of focusing on silly grammar.
I really enjoyed the personal story comparing the author’s experience as an expat and that of the usual “I’m just gonna hang out with English speakers for a bit” expat. I once made the same mistake and then thankfully realised I was wasting a unique opportunity and forced myself to get out of my comfort zone and speak Spanish everyday. I will never regret that decision.
