Rate this book
What do Glazed Toddlers, Ventriloquist Farters, and The Tao of Poo have in common?Humor and writing! They helped create The Accidental Writing Lab.Author, Sheila M. Sullivan, invites us to see where and how she found the motivation to write.

This is not exactly your traditional "how-to" or "self-help" book. No. This book lets us into the inner workings of one particular writer's life as she moved from San Francisco, California to Dallas, Texas and then to Fargo, North Dakota, and ultimately the Pacific Northwest over the course of months. All while attempting to complete the first book in her F.O.K. series.

"I write." When said she told people that is what she does they often asked how. It took her a while to fully appreciate how she developed her daily writing discipline. Sheila had collected a series of emails sent to friends over the days and years. These short musings, collectively titled, Ponder Points, turned out to be her guiding force in developing her writing life.

There are no hard or lengthy rules in The Accidental Writing Lab. This book focuses on the motivation to write. Sheila shares parts of the writing craft in short notes to the reader before and after most of the Ponder Points contained in this first volume. For those readers who have read Spectrum and Illumination Books 1 and 2 of the F.O.K. series you will come to know some of the struggles and successes for Sheila as the story and books developed.

˃˃˃ The Accidental Writing Lab is filled with humor. You've been warned to not take a drink before reading the thoughtful words and moments captured in Sheila's life. They have often caused spontaneous laughter.

˃˃˃ Learn to write without your own worst critic.Inspired by other authors Sheila has met along her path she passes along their sage wisdom. Turn off your inner editor when you sit down to write. Get the story out and then do the rewrite.

I was impressed by this book much! How lively the story is from the author, who impressed me. On the one hand, the guide book pondering and reflecting, but on the other hand it was easy and fast to read, the feeling that you are communicating with the author personally, you listen to her story.
The story with the life background, humor and love of life. Sheila M Sullivan is the positive author with a sense of humor, reading her work is a real bliss.
I read quickly and I want to re-read and get acquainted with her other works.
I’ve never met books where the author shares her life experience: how she found inspiration and put it in her work. What it means is not just to "write" but to put your soul into what you write.
I was impressed by this work. I will recommend to my friends to read it.

A fun use of humor to tell a creative life story

Sheila Sullivan has a great spirit and sense of humor that pours out the writing in this book. The use of humor as she tells her story shows just how talented she is. We all have goals and each of us takes our own journey in reaching those goals. This book shares how Sheila Sullivan reached her goal in a less than normal path. This book will help give you insight into what to do and how to do it so you to can accomplish your dreams. I found myself turning the pages to reach the end and see what other gems she would share. I have read the first book and am looking forward to the follow up to this one. Great book and a must read.

Not very funny for a humor book

I wanted to like this book, I really did. Finally, a self published book that was properly proofread and formatted for Kindle (the lack of such things is a big pain for me). But, as much as I tried, I couldn't laugh. Maybe an occasional smirk, or a random chuckle, but that's it. No riotous laughing out loud. To me, it just wasn't the humorous book it claimed to be.

Such a fun book. I absolutely loved it. Ms. Sullivan is very talented. This book had me in stitches. I could relate to so many “ponders.”
