Nothing is certain but atomic death and taxes. Memos From The Wasteland contains five short stories from the United Wastes and is the official prequel to A Happy Bureaucracy.
I got this ebook from free from the author, and I found this very funny, right now I only want to get my hands on happy bureaucracy as well. Memos from the wasteland its a quite short book made from stories, from the happy bureaucracy world, the first one was a letter for his son (one new auditor that was forced to accept the raise in the job or be kicked out of irs bunker) was kind of sad, but that was only the bottom, the rest was very uplifting, loved the email exchange and the pirate cooking book 🤣🤣had to read that out loud, well what can I say, it was a very short while but very amusing one, thank you M. P. Fitzgerald loved your sense of humour, we need more of that
I've read this snippets of The Wasteland reality after reading the first 2 books in the serie. I would advise to read at least the first book to already be familiar with the series new world, but if you have any doubts about starting then this little intro will be perfect to show you the author's sense of humor and they can be enjoyed by them selfs fine. Though I understand this humor is not for everybody, I really find the story hilarious and very entertaining while criticizing all the ridiculous rules bureaucracy creates. I fully recommend this serie and I'm looking forward for the next book.
"The only thing certain are death and taxes." This statement is brought to life as the IRS survives the nuclear holocaust. It's goal? to do its job and make sure the U.S. government keeps on ticking. M.P. Fitzgerald does another fine job of finding humor in a dark and cynical world.
This book is at the end of the Land Pirates wasteland book so when you buy this book go to the end and pick up Memos from the Wasteland and read it first as it will give you a lot of information about the rest of the series. The series is a great one.
What fun concept! The IRS in a post-apocolyptic wasteland. These characters are crazy, wonderful, complex, and simple. The world building is ongoing, and very easy to imagine.
"I liked the feel of "undelivered". It set a good stage. But the rest of your is-this-really-a-book? never found stage center. I get it. These are excerpts but the flavor varied so greatly that it all seemed obtuse. I did laugh silently at "how to cook meat" by the nearly illiterate land pirate. I wish I could have seen the doodles that were removed for decency. I imagined R Crumb dicknose style drawings. Maybe some raunchy cowboys and Indians and no one riding actual horses. Eh?"
The above is (with minor alterations) what I initially told Fitzgerald after reading Memos. And I only gave it 2 stars. After reading his book A Happy Bureaucracy I increased my rating for this book to 3. If you're new to his madness I hope you read both books and take absolutely nothing seriously. Especially my reviews. Seriously, though, my reviews are written to make me laugh.

Great book that is written from different perspectives(kind of a pulp fiction kind of feel). It has a 'Fallout' flavor about it once you start reading it, anyone who plays games will know what I'm speaking of. Overall, it's a great apocalypse type story that's a must read if you like apocalypse type stories.
