Flea in the Ear

Summary:
This picture book tells the story of a dog who is charged with guarding the hens. A fox tricks him by telling him he can remove his fleas by swimming in the river. However, while the dog does this the fox steals his hens. The dog however then tricks the fox by saying there were loads of ducks in the river and as the fox goes to take them the dog rescues the hens. The Fox also acquires the dogs fleas that were on the river bank.
This book is a tale of don't trust people you don't know. It also shows that if the fox wasn't so greedy he would still have the chickens. This is a nice book that you could read with children with lovely illustrations. However, in terms of literary devices it is quite a simplistic text lacking much depth. But as a cautionary tale and as a nice story this book is great.

it's a very quick read, but VERY well done!
Found this book on a free pile-- whoever left it there, thanks very much! One of the best five-minute reads I have found with my kids.

Eli brought this home from the library. We enjoyed discussing the tricks that were played on each of the main characters, but I was mildly concerned about the lying involved in the story. The illustrations of the dog are awesome.

A sly fox takes advantage of a dog's flea trouble to steal his chickens. But in the end, just desserts is served.
