USA Today best selling author Maureen Child is the author of more than ninety romance novels and novellas. Maureen is a five time nominee for the prestigious Rita award from Romance Writers of America.
One of her novels, A Pocketful Of Paradise, was made into a CBS-TV movie called The Soul Collector, starring Melissa Gilbert, Bruce Greenwood and Ossie Davis.

As Sarah Hart, she wrote one really spectacular western paranormal that is still one of her favorites. And once, Ann Carberry even wrote a Victorian historical which she absolutely loved doing.

Under her own name, Maureen writes short contemporary novels for Silhouette Desire—books she loves to write because of their fast pace and condensed story telling. Maureen is also writing funny, contemporary paranormal romances for NAL and darker paranormal stories for Silhouette Nocturne.

Maureen writes paranormal romance novels under the pesudonym of Regan Hastings

Good story about a workaholic boss (Ethan Hart), his uber-efficient assistant (Sadie Matthews) and an adorable little baby named Emma. I loved the part where Emma “appears” and Ethan appears to be a deer in headlights. The best part for me was that Sadie was strong to Ethan and her struggle was mostly within herself, and with her sister-in-law (!), so she didn’t come across as wishy-washy; she gave as good as she got. Ethan had his own internal struggles, with his different relationships (work, personal) with Sadie AND his brother. Poor guy never had a chance. Quick read for me; I finished it in one night.

I generally don't think it's fair to rate books I haven't finished but ... *shakes head* I was shaking my head even while searching for this book to put it in my GR shelves because no.
Just, no.

No.

The beginning is bad enough, what with the dinosaur hero being an asshole to his younger brother and "all change is bad." My dude - you can't continue to run a successful business if you NEVER. CHANGE. Especially a consumer driven one ...

Then there's what seems to be his younger brother's girlfriend - the "short curvy" one so definitely she's evil (the insistence on getting the recipe ... >.> I could be wrong but I full expect there to be some "twist" later where she really just wants to steal the recipe and stabs him in the back. Because of course.)

Add that to the ... "I'm in love with you but nothing can ever happen" ...

but what REALLY killed it was how some lady from "Child Services" LITERALLY - L I T E R A L L Y - comes with a BABY and drops her off in his office with NO WARNING then walks out.

THAT'S NOT HOW THIS SHIT WORKS. OMFG.
Like - I don't think this is even how it worked in "old timey days" by which I mean like 300 years ago in England. (Although maaaybe back then?) But DEFINITELY not now - and I CANNOT IMAGINE that's how it is like even in major pretend suspension of disbelief land ESPECIALLY in California.

So ...

Confession: I bought this book for my sister. She's ill and loves the Harlequin Desire series. The description sounded cute so I read it first, don't judge. It entertained me and if I see another Maureen Child book, it's coming to my house first.

Sadie Matthews has been in lust/love with her boss for the 5 years she's worked for him. He thinks she's a piece of furniture and it's time to move on, he's never going to "see" her. The day she turns in her notice the world turns upside down.

Ethan Hart is the calm, composed CEO of Heart Chocolates. He takes running the family business much too seriously. His life revolves around work. He's put into a tailspin when his assistant quits. He's worked very, very hard to stay away from her, she's tempting. Now he begins to wonder, what if? Before he can finish that thought he's presented with his ward, a baby girl. He panicks and offers Sadie a boatload of money to stick around for a month and help out. Sadie knows it's dangerous to her heart but he's enticing, the money is needed and that baby is adorable.

Be sure you don't thumb by brother Gabriel and his problems. It's a secondary story that could have been a good standalone. Happy reading.

I have been a frequent reader of the "Billionaires and Babies" series from Harlequin, and so I was pleased to read this one.
I enjoyed the characterization developed by Ms. Child for Ethan. He is definitely a "fish out of water" type. Sadie Matthews is not what I expected as a heroine, but her character worked in the story.
I did not like when the story switched points of view to Ethan's brother Gabe and his girlfriend. I do not like being pulled from the main story line. This is a reader's preference on my part.
I would prefer that someone catch the numerous split infinitives in the story. I know others ignore them, but they also jar me from the story when I am reading. "to never see," "to ever see," "to actually live," "to eventually legally adopt," "to actually see," "to still love," "to briskly knock," "to suddenly fade," etc.

I always look forward to the Billionaires and Babies books each month..This one didn't disappoint either..We have Ethan who is a brick of a man that keeps everything to himself and doesn't let anyone in because of his failed marriage..We have Sadie that is a spitfire..She works for Ethan..She goes to him to quit and when she does that a baby appears that has been left to Ethan..He wants nothing to do with the little girl..He begs Sadie to stay a month at work and to help him with the baby...But can Ethan move on from his past to see what is in front of his face with Sadie..This book had love, intrigue, mystery and was a page turner!!

The storyline is one that has been used many times by a lot of authors....an assistant in love with her boss. But this version is very enjoyable. Sadie and Ethan have a lot of chemistry. Sadie gains the freedom to speak her mind once she turns in her resignation. Ethan has no idea what to do with this new side of her. The introduction of Emma made the story more enjoyable. The lesson from this book....Change can be good, even great! The story is fun and is a quick read.

Love conquers much

I enjoyed reading this true to life book. Life has many obstacles but if you are willing to work to overcome instead of overlooking these encounters, the rewards are destined to bring joy.

This was a great book from start to finish. Sort of has two stories in one with an unexpected ending with the story inside the story. Loved it.
