BookBruce Springsteen is one of today's great songwriters, with a style that is all his own. This book uses his work as the starting point for a master class in the art of writing powerful and successful songs. Songwriting guru Rikky Rooksby takes Springsteen's songs apart and shows how the common techniques they use can help you: structure intros, verses, choruses and bridges * write songs using anything from two to seven chords * arrange instruments for maximum effect * mimic the sound of Springsteen's chords * write lyrics that ring true and hit home. This book will change the way you listen to Springsteen's songs and revitalize the way you write your own.
This author has hit upon a really good idea in combining the study of songwriting with analysis of a specific songwriter's material. Not being a huge Bruce Springsteen fan, I have to say that I find a lot of the examples less than compelling. However, this is a sound concept, and I hope that the author will continue it by highlighting some other prominent songwriters in subsequent volumes.
I can recommend _The Songwriter's Sourcebook_ by the same author as a nice departure from some of the tired old songwriting tutorials of the previous generation. He explores some interesting ideas about chord progressions in that book which are definitely worth looking at.
