She’s a badass SWAT rookie and he’s a playboy SWAT captain… who’s taming who?
Maddie Monroe Three things you should not do when you’re a rookie, and the only female on the SDPD SWAT Team… 1) Take your hazing personally, 2) Let them see you sweat, and 3) Fall for your captain. Especially, when your captain is the biggest playboy on the entire police force. I’ve managed to follow rules one and two with no problem… but the third one I’m having a little more trouble with. Every time he smiles that sinful smile or folds his muscular arms when explaining a new technique or walks through the station full of swagger…. All I can think about is how I’d like to give him my V-card, giftwrapped with a big red bow on it which is such a bad idea because out of Rules One, Two, and Three. Breaking the third one is a sure-fire way to get me kicked off the team and writing parking tickets for the rest of my career. Apparently my heart—and other body parts—didn’t get the memo.
Craig Baxter The first time I noticed Maddie Monroe, she was wet and covered in soapy suds as she washed SWAT’s armored truck as part of her hazing ritual. I’ve been hard for her ever since. I can’t sleep with a subordinate—it would be career suicide, and I’ve worked too damn hard to get where I am today. Come to think of it, so has she, and she’d probably have a lot more to lose. So, nope, not messing around with Maddie Monroe. There’s plenty of women for me to choose from who don’t work for me. Apparently my heart—and other body parts—didn’t get the memo.
Can two hearts—and other body parts—overcome missed memos and find a way to be together without career-ending consequences?
USA Today and Amazon best-selling author, Tess Summers is a former business woman and teacher who always loved writing but never seemed to have time to sit down and write a short story, let alone a novel. Now battling MS, her life changed dramatically, and she has finally slowed down enough to start writing all the stories she'd been wanting to tell, including the fun and sexy ones! Married over twenty-five years with three grown children, Tess is a former dog foster mom who ended up failing and adopting them instead. She and her husband (and their six dogs) split their time between the desert of Arizona and the lakes of Michigan, so she's always in a climate that's not too hot and not too cold, but just right!
I have a friend who is a female police officer, not SWAT. I can’t imagine she would appreciate being called Princess and it didn’t sit well with me that Maddie garnered that nickname.
I liked the friendship between Maddie and Gracie as well as Craig and his sisters. I loved it that Craig saved some dogs.
This book seems big on sex scenes but weaker on capturing true sense of what it is to be female in a macho field like the police department. We were told Maddie was highly competent at work but it felt like too much “tell,” not enough “show.”
SWAT babe blew his mind! How in the world did the Captain of the San Diego SWAT team fall head over heels for the new SWAT recruit? Well, it started with that luscious body of hers but there’s so much more about Maddie Monroe that Captain Craig Baxter can’t walk away from. This is an awesome forbidden romance which I love. Craig and Maddie are made for each other…but…he’s her boss’s, boss’s, boss and there’s no fraternizing in the police department. For them both it’s also very hard to sneak around when you have your feeling reflected on your face every time you see the other. I love the San Diego Social Series. This small group of friends, co-workers, and family loves being in each other’s company. Together they have fun, find companionship, and love and when troubles happen, they are there for support. With Craig's love, Maddie and her best friend Grace are readily accepted into the group. This story is full of lovely, good, and caring HOT characters along with plenty of romance and HOT sexy good times. Linda
This age gap, contemporary, steamy book revolves around the SWAT team based at the San Diego Police Department where rookie, Maddie is excessively attracted to her divorced alpha male, Police Captain Craig Baxter. They fight their mutual attraction as a relationship would mean the end of both of their careers, especially as Craig is two pay grades above her and is her superiors' boss. Maddie is also a twenty six year virgin and she's been keeping herself for the right man, who she believes is Craig. The story is well written and interesting and one of the auxiliary characters, Craig's best friend, also has his own side story in this book. The main characters were likeable and believable. Maddie is a very strong, determined woman who has fought her way into her position which Craig admires immensely and he is very supportive of her career. He doesn't expect to ever fall in love again and she takes him by surprise. This was a well developed and enjoyable read.
This is an important part of the storyline, but isn't for sale. Find it! (from the author's newsletter or website-I forget how I got my copy-but get it.)
I appreciate that Maddie is a female, fighting for her spot with SWAT. It's always fun for me to enjoy reads with strong females. Craig is her boss' boss' boss (I know, lots of bosses above her) and this poses big issues for both of them.
But... as with every book in the series, it is impossible for these two characters to ignore their connection to each other. The path to their HEA is fun, and I enjoyed their chemistry.
This story should be read BEFORE 'Burning Her Resolve', (if you want to keep spoiler free), and in the correct storyline thread.
I recommend this author, book, and series. It's enjoyable, with strong characters, steamy and engaging stories, and sweet HEAs.
Maddie Monroe is the only female on the San Diego Police Department SWAT team. She is a rookie and still in her probationary stage.
Craig Baxter is the SWAT Captain. He tells Maddie that he does not want her participating in the Wounded Warrior’s date auction. Maddie tells him that she already promised Fran Erickson that she would participate.
At the local bar, Maddie meets up with some of her team mates and some of their friends. She plays pool and she and Craig talk. He drives her home and makes sure that she gets inside okay. Maddie is hung over in the morning and mortified because she remembers throwing herself at Craig when they got to her house. She thinks her turned her down because he is not attracted to her. Craig really turned her down because he is her superior.
I loved finding out how Maddie and Craig ended up together.
I absolutely loved this book! It was funny, entertaining and I thoroughly enjoyed the sassy, sexy banter between Maddie and Craig.
Captain Craig Baxter is doing whatever it takes to steer clear of the female rookie on his SWAT team. He's her boss; nothing can happen between them or they could both lose their jobs and Maddie has worked too hard to get this far to put her in that position.
Maddie has been fighting the feelings she has for her captain since she arrived. She knows she is on probation and it would end her career if anything became of the feelings she has for him, yet he's the only man she's ever met she'd be willing to give her V-card to. So what are two people to do when a job and fate keeps throwing them together?
It was honestly hard not to love this story. I fell in love with Bax and Maddie instantly. The supporting characters were so amazing as well. The struggles they go through are very realistic and relatable. The chemistry between them is 100% real and spicy. There’s so much more to each and every character than meets the eye. Nail biting read. Will they or won’t they get together? Will they or won’t they get caught? It jumps around some but otherwise it was wonderful. Read in less than a day. I started it at night and by the next afternoon it was finished. Can’t wait to read about Ryan and Grace’s story.
This was a free story available through the author’s web page. It was better than most free novellas and I was happy with who gave up what for whom at the end. I still think this author needs to write in first person as her third person style isn’t great and she tends to rely a lot on purple prose. How many different poetic ways can you describe a clitoris? Nub, pearl, magic button, bump? Cringey. Anyway it’s decent, I’m going to round up from 3.5 because the things I usually slag this author for were not present in this book.
Cute but a bit much ado about nothing. Craig and Maddie have it bad for one another. But he’s her boss’ boss and she’s a probationary SWAT recruit. Pretty much disaster all over. But their feelings are more than crushes or lust and these two need to figure out what’s important.
Overall, I enjoyed the progression of their relationship. But it felt like the story took longer than necessary. He’s not an idiot and neither is she. The moment he realized he was in love with her he should’ve done what was necessary to ensure they weren’t breaking any rules.
This was a great book. I have several female and male police officers and military in my family.I think all of them would get a kick out of the book. Even with the nickname princess. All of them at different times have said you have to have fun and not take every so seriously or you wont survive(in one form or another). . It was fun good chemistry and believable. On a side not I have two sets of couples who met on the job. THANK YOU TESS for the fun read. Definitely a fan now
Absolutely loved this book and the characters were great!! I loved this storyline because sometimes you can't fight love and this was the entire story!! I loved the main characters but I also loved the other characters that were brought in and I hope they each have their own books in this series!!
Was a fun, flirty, two people working together, same department. Rules against relationships against people being together, one would have to change, transfer out. They fight their feelings, until they cannot, what will happen? Beautiful story about two people who are meant to be together.❤️
Quite enjoyed this book, a quick read, but it was funny, engaging. Main hero goes from playing hard to get for about a minute to all in, and I prefer books in the first person, the storyline was good.
this was a really great book! he is her boss. she wants to give him her v- card. only thing is he is player.you have to read this book to find out what happens.
Awesome. It shows great willpower and strength to fight feelings. Then they finally both decide the other is worth the change to be together. Great book.
Have totally loved all this San Diego social scene series but think this was the best so far. Loved Craig and Maddie and really enjoyed reading their story.
Craig is the playboy of the SWAT team where Maddie is just recruited, so she’s a rookie on the team. The two of them fall in love immediately, but have to keep it a secret, due to work policy. I absolutely loved their story!! It’s sexy and with lots of banter between them.
