Parno Mcleod has enough problems for three people. A brother trying to steal the throne. A former fiance who has ripped him apart emotionally, and an enemy army twice the size of his own camped out on millions of acres of prime farm land he needs to feed his people. The last thing he needs to add to all that are assassination attempts, his surrogate mother meddling in the relationship or lack thereof with his 'fiance', and word that his traitorous brother, unaware of the death of his twin, is trying desperately to reach the Coastal Province government for 'help' in 'restoring' him to the throne.
READS LIKE A MIDDLE AGES HISTORICAL FICTION NOVEL WITH EVERYTHING FROM WAR, ACTION, AND ROMANCE.
If you haven't had the chance to read any of the series written by N.C. Reed, this is one I would highly recommend.
Book four Parno's Peril, the fourth book in The Black Sheep of Soulan is well written, action-packed, full of characters that are well defined that will keep you interested throughout routing for the Soulan nation to repel the Norland army which invaded their country to enslave their population, rob them of their resources, and take control of their lands. You will find yourself routing for the characters on the Soulan side while cheering for the defeat of the Norland invaders.
I have truly enjoyed reading the first four books in this series, and shortly, I will be starting the fifth (which looks to be the final book) in this series. I hope you'll find that you, too, will enjoy reading The Black Sheep of Soulan series.
Quotes from this book: "We are all the sum of our experiences." "Knowing something and realizing what it meant were two different things."
If you are reading this you already love Parno's story. You will not be disappointed with this book as it continues the story. Another great book from NC Reed. I will be watching for the next one.
Another good book in this excellent series. There were some parts that lagged a bit and I have to assume the travels of 3 characters that seem to be disconnected from the main story will in the next book become relevant. I am pleased with my fellow redheads again. Jaelle is, of course, a true hero. Winnie, started spoiled but then became woke and is doing better. I am not a Stephanie fan (I hope she is not a redhead too) but I do like Parno a lot so I'm pleased things are working out for him. One of my favorite characters, Cho Feng, had more to do here and I hope he has a lot of time in the next book. There were also a lot fewer errors in this book which was very nice.
Riveting in places, this series is well thought out and relatively easy to read. Other than the usual typos and grammatical errors, I totally enjoyed reading every book to date. Unlike many series , it hasn't gotten repetitive or boring with added unnecessary verbiage.
This is my first review ever and is actually more about the author in general than just this last book. I anxiously await all future volumes in any of his series. I have read many series of post apocalyptic fiction books and N.C. Reed has proven to be a master of the genre. After reading everything N.C Reed has published on Kindle, I now only wait and watch satisfied that any new N.C Reed book will provide me the story, characters, and underlying values that make me feel good all through the read.
I loved it! A hell of a lot of character’s to keep track of but that kept it interesting. I would have given it 5 stars but for the many grammatical errors. For instance, I think I will go to the market. I thing I will go to the market. Etc. etc. I would have to stop and reread sentences adding ( mentally) the proper words to the sentence or paragraph to allow it to flow. Still I believe it be superior editing to some I’ve read. Very entertaining with strong believable characters.
This series has drawn me into the world woven by Mr Reed. And what a world of is. A romantic world, in a future that resembles the past. An alternative version of the American civil war, sans slavery, turned upside down. The South are the good guys, but a kingdom. The North is an imperial state. The wild West has cereal tribes as in days of yore. How can you not be drawn in?
The continuing tale of Prince Parno, still outnumbered more than two to one Parno can only hope to out scheme his Nor adversaries, his turbulent personal life continues and his scheming brother dreams of stealing the throne, the fourth book like it's three predecessors is constant action, the authors style of switching from incident to incident keeps the furious pace going and is thoroughly satisfactory,I'm thoroughly looking forward to book five.
I 1st read the series fire in the sky By this author Was highly impressed I need then read This series afterwards I cannot Over stress How the to come together If you read fire and skies 1st They're both extremely well written With great character development And I wait With baited breath For the next book in each of those 2 series. To the author Words cannot express The greatness Of these 2 series that all
This is not filler. This is a meaty effort by the author to resolve some story arcs and tease future directions. I am impressed there is not a cliffhanger but rather an introduction to new directions for book 5. The author respects the reader, obvious by the content and the pricing.
Mistakes: only found three this time. One missing word, and two where the wrong word was used. Fast improvement over book three. Plot: enjoyable. Characters: growth for lots of side characters. Let's hope that they don't backslide into old annoying habits in book five. I rate this book 7.5/10
Great story and addition to the series. Mr. Reed does need to take some time, or ask someone to double check the text. Spell Check and Autocorrect are no substitute for proper editting. This by no means diminishes his work, but it is distracting for the Grammar Lovers among us.
It's basically a love story with battles going on around it. The story is one that makes you never want to stop reading til the end and then when you reach the end you want more. I love strong characters and these are all strong...good and bad. When does the next one come out? Can't wait.
I discover nd feed last summer and have done read all of his work. His books are simply that enjoyable. I too am an author with ten novels to my credit, every author out there was a reader first and I see this in mister feeds work. Thank you for the hours of enjoyment you have provided
Fast paced and exciting read. I can't wait for next book. Well written with engaging characters, especially Parno, a bad boy and rebel turned hero. I haven't read a bad book by this author.
Definitely a book, a series of books, that I simply could not put down. I am anxiously awaiting the continuing story of Parno and how this "time of dying" came to be. I have thoroughly enjoyed every book written by N. C. Reed.
So much happens in this installment of the series. It had romantic complications, assassins, and huge battle scenes. I will be anxiously awaiting the arrival of the next book.
Have read the first 4 now, well organized world building. With the previous 3 the worst part of reading was all the spelling and grammatical errors. There are still plenty in volume 4 but substantially less than in the first three. worth the read!
Enjoyed the story, But I think that you write a little like David Weber. Long and wordy. But I'm chewing sardines here waiting with baited breath for the next book. Hurry please.
Can’t wait to start the next installment,Great storyline, lots of parts and great characters. Well thought out and smooth transitions to all the different players.
Dear Mr Reed, I hope you are in negotiations with Hollywood. Parno’s adventures would be something special on the big screen. Keep ‘em coming, and thanks.
