Reading Between the Lines: What your handwriting says about you

Rate this book
Handwriting is something of a dying art nowadays, as we tap messages to each other day after day. But handwriting analysis can divulge everything from a person's timidity to their ambition, from their desire to please to their need to control. In fact, so revealing is your writing that in Japan all CVs are still written by hand.Written by the UK's leading handwriting expert, Reading Between the Lines will show you how to judge someone's handwriting as a whole and how to examine it in detail. Because every aspect of penmanship - the height of an 'h', the curliness of a 'g', the pressure of the pen on the paper - is a collection of signals that we are giving out without meaning to. The way we write can tell the world a huge amount; sometimes more than the things we write about. Our handwriting exposes how we interact with the world and the people around us, and also how we cope with stress and express emotions. It can help us make choices for our future, showing us what our desires are, and even what jobs and partners may suit us best.Using real-life examples, including celebrity samples, you will be challenged to put your new-found knowledge to the test. By the end of the book you will have amassed a wealth of knowledge that will help you understand human nature - including your own - in all its colours.

After attending a Catalyst presentation of graphology, I was seriously amazed at the art/science of analyzing handwriting. After picking up Reading Between the Lines, I was excited for an in depth analysis of what graphology is, what techniques experts use, and if this "science" has merit. Instead, what I got was a manual of graphology party tricks. The book spends only a few paragraphs addressing how real graphology is, which was disappointing for me. Unfortunately, my innate skepticism ruined a lot of the fun of the book.

Don't get me wrong, I had a lot of fun analyzing my own handwriting (apparently I am consistency low on energy, but can focus well?) and it is certainly fun to analyze writing. However, for the amount I paid I feel that I could have gotten this information online in a much more concise form. That being said, the book is misleadingly thick. I was able to plow through the contents of the book in one 4 hour sitting.

If you're like me, and wanted a more analytical scientific breakdown of graphology, this really isn't the right book for you. However, if you just want a fun, nicely designed manual on how to psychoanalyze someone through their writing, perhaps this book is for you.

Great insight into understanding the world of handwriting - easy to understand and well divided chapters on different sections. I particularly like the examples to work through at the end of each chapter to illustrate and emphasise the key points. Highly recommend to anyone with an interest in the area.

It's a decent book. There's a lot of information in it and I don't think I retained very much of it but it's been cool to get a view into the world of graphology.
I think it would have been an easier read if I'd had more of an interest in the subject going in
