Doomsday approaches rapidly through space.Humanity has lived in fear since the destruction left behind by the first alien scouts, knowing they will not survive the next attack. World governments scramble to develop ESAF, a program that hopes to secure and prepare Earth against another attack.
Fain Jegga was just a boy when he witnessed the devastating alien attack firsthand and lost his parents. Now fully grown, he has trained relentlessly in a top-secret facility as part of ESAF’s search for Earth’s best answer to the alien threat.
As one of the few who had successfully completed his training, he was led down a path in the facility only a few had seen before. That was when he discovered that Earth was in the middle of an intergalactic war.
Luigi Robles was born in Los Angeles, CA and spent most of his time as a child visiting libraries and voraciously reading books.
He eventually grew up to become a successful graphic designer and reaped its rewards. He has never stopped reading and has always been a fan of the Science Fiction/Fantasy masters such as Orson Scott Card, Frank Herbert, Iain M. Banks, George R.R. Martin, J.R.R. Tolkien, and many more. But with every book he read, the longing to tell his own stories grew stronger, until he found himself typing away, filling up blank pages in the middle of the night.
Luigi ultimately switched careers to focus on writing and bringing great stories to life. When he isn’t writing, he is plotting and designing or illustrating the cover for his next book, which is the icing on the cake of his lifelong passion.
Now with seven books under his name, his craft keeps on getting better.
SPOILERS - DNF 30%. Just No. It's very rare for me to say that about a book but this one is atrocious. Good basic premise (a little like Macross, alien ship that humans have to fight another alien race etc).
That is where it ends. The writing style is confusing and switches between first-person and narrated every paragraph or two almost. The characters are not likeable at all. A lowly Lt that's only sat at a simulator now becomes the CAPTAIN of one of the most powerful ships in the galaxy. Yes, the Captain, not just a pilot. Because here, whoever pilots the ship is the Captain. Even when he's a kid. The "heads of departments" are not people you like or want to deal with. They're in the military (the extremely badly named Earth Space Armed Federation), yet display no military discipline or tact. They want to be called by their first names and borderline disrespect the new Captain at every turn. He, then tries to baby each to like him. From knowing nothing he quickly (in a few pages) becomes someone that is picking up agendas and conspiracies. The antagonists seem to be other humans instead of the alien menace. The ship has weapons named 'small cannon' and 'big cannons' (rolling eyes). Nothing on this ship has really been tested. And the most secure bunker is cited to last just over half an hour under alien bombardment.
Yeah I couldn't handle this, bad scifi, terribly written.
The storyline began well. Then lurched from one crisis to another, with a dubious character, Johnathon, thrown in for good measure. The author lost track within the storyline and failed to expand on what would have been a good story. What as the purpose of the telling of 7000 souls on board when it didn't matter to the story? The by-story of the Council was weak and logically, their decision to penalise Fain made no sense. The main protagonists, the Arcam were not described in much detail apart for a small interlude and their fleets' destruction at the end. A great story made weak by glossing over parts that were intrinsic. A rush to get to the end. Pity.
An alien starship in the hands of humans that barely know how to use it and aliens that want it, and an Ai with attitude, oh my. This book is a page turner, action from page 1. I gave 4 stars because I liked how the writer builds up the nail biting action and the strong characters. I gladly recommend this book it's really an excellent read.
Great characters, exciting plot, believable story line. Star Wars without Jedie powers but human folks with all our insecurities and faults. Put it on your read now list!
Can't wate for book 2. So much action, near the end of the book I couldn't sit still. (And I'm in my car driving) I was given this audiobook at my request and voluntarily giving this review. And so glad it did. This is my kind of space/ailen/fight for our planet story. I hope there is much more to come. Great Job Luigi. Thanks again.
I liked Sodenia well enough but I didn't get lost in the story. The book was well thought out and had a good story line, I just wasn't as immersed in it.
