First sentence: What did the mommy bunny say to her baby bunny? You're some bunny special.
Premise/plot: Baby Love is a board book with a mirror.
My thoughts: The text of this one is formulaic and predictable. A mommy animal is professing her love to her baby on every single page. The animals are all ones you'd expect to find in a board book: bunny, elephant, cat, and dog. The last spread, of course, is not an animal at all. It features the mirror. (Babies do love mirrors.)
Text: 3 out of 5 Illustrations: 3 out of 5 Total: 6 out of 10
{My thoughts} – A Wonderful reprint of a wonderful book by Sandra Magsamen! I really enjoy the books that she has written and I love sharing them with my daughters. They also enjoy having them read to them. Wonderful, wonderful books.
The text in this books speaks about the the love between a child and their parent. It has a mirror that lets the child see their own image as the book is being read to them, which adds to the likability of the book.
The words and the illustrations within book go together hand and hand. They are colorful illustrations that are eye appealing. They help to hold the child’s interest and because of that, most of Sandra Magsamen’s books have become favorites within our house. I look forward to reading many more of her books in the future with my girls.
BABY LOVE has been redone as a board book with a mirror. The characters are animals and it's about what the mommy animal will say to the baby. For example: "What did the mommy bunny say to her baby bunny? You're some bunny special."
My little girl loves the mirror aspect and how it's on each page. She can see her face instead of the animals and it keeps her engaged. The felt front on the flap is perfect for a different tactile element. This is a great book to give your child that added bit of love with all of the different ways to say "I love you".
Final Verdict: I recommend this to fans of animals, mirrors, tactile elements, and showering your child with love.
I discovered this book at the library the other day and made Mommy take it home. This says it is a book for babies, but this 2 1/2 year old thinks it's pretty awesome. I love playing with the felt flap and seeing myself in the mirror. I think the jokes are hilarious. I've even made up some of my own! I think this is really a big boy book.
This is a cloth book that folds out and can be used as a crib bumper or a story. On one side it spells out love and the other side has a story. On the story side, there are flaps to lift up. Each flap is a soft animal. It asks “What did the mommy elephant say to her baby elephant? I love you a ton.” The last one has a heart and asks “What do I say to you? I love you”. It is a sweet story with soft, touchable pictures. It would be a good one for interaction between a caregiver and a child. Also the soft, washable pages are easy for a baby to play with. You don’t have to worry about them hitting themselves with the harder board books.
This soft, accordion fold board book is lots of fun for my 2 mo old daughter. We can read it cover to cover, but often I take one of the animals (the kitty cat and puppy dog are her favorites) and have a "conversation" with her. She likes when I make the "prrrr" sound of the cat, and she likes the black and white of the puppy dog. This book can be unfolded and laid out standing up during play time, or flat on the floor during tummy time.
