I don’t know if I was in the correct head space to read this one because I did ultimately end up enjoying it and want to continue the series, but it was kind of tragic and I just wasn’t expecting it to be that way. I was expecting more adventure than so many terrible things happening with it being a book about pirates. There definitely was adventure, but the tragedy definitely outweighed that. I’m going to continue the series and I think now that I know what more to expect I’ll be better prepared and enjoy the series more in future books.

I really enjoyed this story following the path of Vesta as she navigates piracy and her family's ship, The Coronet, which is captained by her brother, much to her chagrin. She's an excellent fighter, and brave, and it was nice to experience her life aboard the ships. Rufus, Justin, Christina, and Joel were all nice side characters as well. The ending broke my heart a little! I look forward to reading book 2!

'The Coronet' mainly features Vesta and tells the story of how she came to be the person we meet in 'The Kestrel' - and also introduces us to Matthew at an earlier point in his life and his path to piracy, as well as Nicolas Cavendish, Alexander Cavendish's father.
The Cavendish Trilogy also reveals some new information on characters from The Black Feather trilogy that may make readers see them in a different light...
Once this trilogy is complete, it can be read either before or after The Black Feather Trilogy.
