Gaspard the Dog Walker buys a shiny new race-car key chain with the money he earns walking dogs. When his classmates admire his treasure, Gaspard panics thinking that someone will try to steal it and–oh, no!–swallows his new key chain. Suddenly he doesn’t feel so well.
Gaspard goes to the hospital, where he meets the friendly doctors and nurses who make him feel better.
Ugh fantastic. I LOVE that Gaspard is an anthropomorphic dog who walks non-anthropomorphic dogs. There is someone who left a review on "Lisa's Baby Sister" about how confusing it was that that book had dogs /and/ people in it. This one would make her head explode.
This is my favorite book from the Gaspard and Lisa series. (Gaspard and Lisa, Friends Forever is a close second.) I bought this book during a time when my son was starting to really enjoy picture books and was also spending too much time in hospitals and with doctors, so I was buying friendly doctor picture books wherever I saw them. I found this to be an entertaining read and totally fell in love with odd little Gaspard and his funny ideas. This is a great book!
I don't know why I love this book so much... Is it because the pictures are adorable, or because Gaspard is a dog that made money last summer with his dog walking job? Probably a charming combination of the two. This is the best hospital picture book ever.
