The Tin Foil Hat Club unleashes yet another batch of unusual and quirky tales from the imagination of Scott Baron. Conspiracy theorists who might not be mad after all. A young woman mysteriously stranded on the open sea. A flamboyant homeless man who dubs himself Mayor. Silver spoon debutantes who should be careful what they wish for. And hedge fund millionaires with a shifting world view.
Scott Baron is an American author with a penchant for oddball stories with O. Henry-esque twists.
Born in Hollywood, Baron credits growing up in Los Angeles with skewing his humor towards the offbeat and absurd. He studied abroad in Italy during his college years, returning to Los Angeles to work in the film industry as an on-set medic. In addition to writing shorts and novels, Baron is also a screenwriter of both feature and television scripts.
I enjoyed it! I'd rank stories in this order (favorite to least) Honorable Mayor Tin Foil hat Sine Qua Non (O'heneryesque I was expecting) Water Water ( I wish this one longer as a novel. I wanted more) For the Love of art ( not bad just not my favorite)
I don't know what took me so long to get around to this book. Maybe I didn't want it to end? Didn't want to see a future with none of Barons stories to read?
Okay, that's enough of the melodramatic. Let's get to the good parts.
Damn. This book was deep. Or it felt deep. Either way, I loved it! It felt more like it was digging into the lives of people and their personalities than the others before it and I loved that. It was beautifully written and had a good dose of that personality I love about this author (Well, about his works anyway - don't actually know him, but his works are A++).
I think the last one had to be my favourite. That ending was just so unexpected and beautiful.
Anyway, that's my two cents. Now to anxiously hope there's more in the works.
I seem drawn occasionally by books with quirky titles. How could one resist The Tin Foil Hat Club? I had not read short stories since English classes long ago. This book of short stories is a delight. Plenty of quirkiness and clever plots. And always a creative and unexpected surprise awaiting at the end of each. They are all short stories, but satisfyingly, each is complete. Looking forward to more of this author's creative writing.
For the love of Art ... beautifully written and imagined. Water, Water Everywhere ... oh the tangled web The tin foil hat club ... hmmmm I know some people that are like that...
But the best of the lot : The Honourable Mayor of Palisades Park... this one I WANT as a novel
What a fantastic book of stories. Very rarely do I find such a book. Most stories are just that, stories. However, Scott baron creates characters and worlds that draw you in and hold your attention.
Another enjoyable book of short stories by Scott Baron. I usually have a good idea where a story is headed, but there were some surprises here. I will be reading more of this author.
It was a book of odd stories. Odd doesn't mean not worth reading. They were good stories, actually great short read for those times when you need something to read!
