Xander was a dream that would never be.

One catastrophic night left me orphaned at the age of seventeen. Hunted by a murderer, Xander saved me from the pits of hell, braving a fire that would have ended my life. Hiding me from a killer, he became my protector, my best friend, but never anything more.

Sin was a nightmare waiting to happen.

Six years later, a friend is murdered at the hottest nightclub in Manhattan, again thrusting me into a killer's crosshairs. Now a detective with the NYPD, I refuse to hide, unyielding in my pursuit of justice, which has eluded me for so long. Determined to keep me safe, Sin forces me from the case. Defying him at every turn, our contentious relationship finally explodes in the most scandalous way conceivable, leaving me devastated.

I wanted them both.

Xander, sophisticated and elegant. My hero, the man who owns my heart. Sin, dominating alpha-male. My lieutenant, forbidden in so many ways. One dangerous kiss changes everything, catapulting me into a war between the two, neither of them willing to let me go. I become a pawn in their game until they join forces in a way I never saw coming. But lies and deception threaten to destroy us, leading to a betrayal that cuts so deep, I wonder if I'll ever survive.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: This book is intended for mature audiences due to explicit language and sexual content. Sinful is a menage romance that's all about the girl. There are NO M/M scenes.

Katherine Hawthorne is the sexier, erotic side of a bestselling romantic mystery author. She loves sexy alpha males and books that come with warnings. By far, her greatest guilty pleasure is ménage romance, which is exactly what she writes. Shucking off the last vestiges of her oh so proper Ivy League education, she traded tedious academic writing, combined her favorite genres, and found her greatest joy in writing suspenseful erotic romance.

When Katherine isn’t writing, you can find her racing down the ski slopes in the winter and relaxing on the beach in the summer, most likely lost in a book. Married with four children, three of which still live at home, life is a never-ending crazy thrill ride, one she quite happily embraces.

Less Sinful Surrender, More True Detective

This book was great, but the title and cover picture were a bit misleading. Though it is steamy and has a threesome, it reads more like True Detective, and a very good season at that. I suppose if It wasn’t for the cover, title and blurb I wouldn’t have picked up the book and I am glad I did, because I was so involved and loved the story. The writing was great, characters well developed and the crime storyline was as important and prevalent as the romance.

It starts out with the main character, Elizabeth Sullivan as a naive teenage girl at a high society party. Her and her friend Sofia are checking out the hot guy with all the muscles that walked in and had all heads turning his way. Sofia tells Elizabeth that is name is Sin, at least that is what people call him. Sofia says his real name is Alex Sinclaire and he wouldn’t look twice at them since they are jailbait. Sin is heir apparent to the NYPD commissioners office, the party was for his father’s appointment as commissioner.

Soon afterwards Elizabeth suffers through a terrible tragedy. Fast forward six years and she is returned as Isabelle “Belle” Saint, a Detective on the police force. Sin is her commanding officer, which was a personal request from his best friend Xander Phoenix, who helped Elizabeth/Belle six years ago and has been her personal hero ever since.

Sin is supposed to watch out for Belle and make sure she learns the ropes from the best and stays safe. Though Sin is having trouble with the no fraternization rules, because Belle is beautiful and he is extremely attracted to her. When she is involved in a shooting at a bar, both he and Xander see that they both have feelings for herald neither are too happy about it. Meanwhile Belle and Sin start working the murder case.

The murder is the thing. The case is extremely interesting, as much if not more than the romance which is a bit of a slow burn in this book. Truthfully though the fact that the romance moves very slowly works well for the story. Since Belle is lusting after Sin, but has been in love with Xander for years. It is difficult for her since she is naive and also is a cop. Any kind of romance with her boss would mean the end of her dreams. The same is true for Sin.

There are some other mysterious going’s on in the book that are alluded to a few times involving Xander and possibly Sin as well. Also Belle has other reasons for some of the things she is doing, that I won’t get into. But there is a killer cliffhanger at the end and I can’t wait to move on to the next book.

Wow! One heck of a cliffhanger!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The author entertains us with a shocking intro that introduces us to the main characters. Throughout the story we see bits of crime, violence, cop fiction, heated anticipation, dominance, submission, and mystery.
In some instances I felt confused. Name changes. Not acting like cops like we see in other romantic suspense stories. Different POV's got a bit confusing. But SIN... he is damn hot! Mmmm
The story is a two-parter so many questions are left on answered. We get spicy heat times two with the two men in her life but yet the cliffhanger leaves us wondering what really happened in the story. What we think is happening just got changed in a big way.
Highly entertaining read. I really enjoyed this book and had a difficult time putting it down. I cannot wait until part two to find out what the heck is going on. Oh, and to see which guy she ends up with… Or both?
I'm torn when it comes to this book, yes that cliffhanger ending did make me really want to know what happens next but at the same time I don't really care much about any of the main characters and I had a lot of issues about the way their relationships are being handled so far.
Belle went through a traumatic experience as a teenager when her father brutally murdered her mother and then killed himself, she found their bodies and is still dealing with that emotionally. She never believed her father was the killer and she's now become a detective, assumably in the hope of investigating her parent's deaths. The two love interests are Xander, who has been a friend and protector since her parents died and Sin (aka Alex), the police lieutenant who trained her and who is still her boss.
The two men are best friends, are both aware of the other's interest in Belle and seem to have come to some arrangement between them years ago that neither will take that any further. Yet now they're both making moves at the same time, are aware the other is making moves too and don't seem to have any issue with that (this attitude and the cover lead me to believe there are threesome potentials from this series) until right near the end when they get all alpha male and possessive and pretty much want to fight each other for her. It all just seemed so stupid, especially when you realise they've both been perving over her since she was only 17 (they're both at least 10 years older) and just waiting for her to be old enough to be ready for them.
Belle herself is full of contradictions, she's ridiculously naive in some ways yet we're supposed to believe she's a fully fledged detective at just 26. It's hard to believe she could find her way out of a paper bag, let alone make detective at such a young age. There were plot holes and contradictions in the storyline which didn't help but my biggest issue was a spanking scene that was completely lacking in consent. I will NEVER understand why author's think it is sexy for a hero to spank a girl for "breaking the rules" when she isn't in a relationship with him and never agreed to any rules in the first place! I'm more than happy to read a spanking scene in a BDSM story where everyone has agreed the rules and knows exactly what they're getting into but that couldn't be further from what happened in this book.
I already have a copy of the second book in the series so I'll probably give it a try just to see how things turn out after that cliffhanger but the author is going to have some serious work to do to get me on board with Belle ending up with either of these men, let alone both of them!
That book was so many things but none of those things felt right to me. I feel completely confused and definitely not in a good way.
I didn't connect with any of the characters, story felt disjointed and just felt like there was no clear direction in which it was meant to go.
It just wasn't for me. Oh well, onwards and upwards and onto my next read.
Sinful by Katherine Hawthorne is book one in the Sinful Surrender Quartet series. This is the story of Alex Sinclaire, Xander Phoenix and Elizabeth Sullivan aka Isabella 'Belle' Saint.
Elzabeth's parents were killed...she was told it was a murder / suicide, but she feels different about it. Then shortly after there was a fire and she sure that wasn't a accident either. Now a few years later she is under the new identity of Belle working under Alex a man who help with her new life. Xander also has been a part of her life. The attraction to both men have been a struggle. Both are powerful and protective. But there is the mystery of who she thinks killed her parents and a new threat going on. This is a somewhat dark romance with two love interest for Belle and does end with a cliffhanger.
Guilty pleasures my ass!!!!
This was sooooo good. Combining genres, building tension, helluva plot. Not to mention extremely hot. Just wow, Miss Hawthorne!!!!
Another reviewer compared it to True Dectective. A good season of True Detective so be exact. I couldn't agree more!!!!!
Zander and Alex were perfect characters. I don't even know where my loyalties lie....
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Phew...... I seriously underestimated this book!
Sinful should come with a few warnings-
1) Not one but two deliciously alpha males rule this story line,
2)The plot is so hot, twisted and gripping it cant be put down.
3) you will be left in agony awaiting the next book.
My biggest mistake was attempting to read a few chapters at bed time! in the early hours of the morning i finished it with a frustrated sigh and a million questions.
Please please let book 2 come quickly.
Nothing wow-ing about this, really. I don't really like crime fiction, but the romance was kinda at that level of blah that I actually found myself interested in the crime storyline.
I felt there was not enough detail in the writing, where things just seemed to skip along but never actually answer anything.
Also, the last part was really rushed? And then there was a cliff-hanger that makes me feel like I'm really not invested in as much as I feel I should be.
I picked this book up because it sounded like a romance with an interesting plot. The main character, Bella, becomes a cop after the horrendous deaths of her parents. There is one man she trusts & that’s Xander, the man who saved her, and then there is Alex, her boss. Both are desperate to keep her safe despite all the things that Bella does that goes against anything they say.
I enjoyed the suspense & mystery aspect of this book as well as the steamy scenes. But Bella’s character honestly was one I couldn’t get with. She even admitted to being a b**ch & just honestly became the worse when she kept saying No when even in her mind she didn’t’ believe it.
I plan on continuing with the series, hopefully her character gets some development and grows up.
I really enjoyed this Erotica Novel, for a few reasons.
As much as it is Erotica, the sexual scenes are far from the only element of plot, in fact the plot is fun, unexpected and suspenseful.
The Characters and situations are far from predictable, and I enjoyed how the growing Ménage (or what we assume will be) isn’t instantaneous, in fact it is awkward initially and causes some distress for the parties involved. They don’t instantly jump into the idea, rather it gradually comes about from certain situations.
The Characters are mysterious, and with one we don’t find out what he ‘really’ does although it is hinted at multiple times, and I did at several points find this frustrating. As much as I enjoyed the mystery, I did feel this should have been explained.
That being said. The ending leaves the story wide open for an explanation, the perfect “what will happen next” and “who is it?!” Situation! I can’t wait to find out!
If you enjoy Romantic Suspense and Erotica, this is the perfect story for you!
It is hard to put into words. Right now speechless. This book just rocked my world
I am still shaking my head. The ending leaves me speechless and craving the next book to see what is going on. The MFM is eye opening and you never get a feel of knowing what is truly going on with Sin and Xander.
WOW This book rocked my mind!
I was looking to read something fun and easy going to take my mind off the flu-bug I am currently fighting.
This looked a good option - two alpha males with a female on the cover, what more could I want?  I was NOT expecting the thrilling storyline.  The shocking opener had me gripped and I couldn't put the book down until the final page.
The story includes violence, crime, police procedure, mystery and of course anticipation, dominance, submission.
I was confused at times as both the male characters have similar names but once you get into the story it kinda works.
As this is the first part in a series it does leave many unanswered questions. Can't wait to get into book two!
Sinful by Katherine Hawthorne is a MFM Ménage Romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Lacy Laurel, Connor Crais, and James Cassidy. This is the first book in the Sinful Surrender Quartet series.
This is the first book of Katherine's that I have read and it definitely won't be my last. I was pulled in from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I am loving the chemistry between Belle, Xander, and Sin. I really enjoyed getting Elizabeth, Sin, Belle, and Xander's points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.
The book ends on an amazing cliffhanger that left me begging for more. I can't wait to dive into the next book Sensuous.
Lacy, Connor, and James did an amazing job on the narration. They really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you like MFM Ménage Romances, Erotic Romances, or Romantic Suspense.
Sinful was full of suspense that kept me enthralled from the first page. I didn't want to put down. Two alpha males wanting to protect what they each feel is theirs. Belle in love with one who she considers her hero while working for the other. One night, giving in to temptation sets off a chain of events that threaten everything, from her job to her life. The ending shocked me and made me crave the second book to find out what happens and where they go from here.
Amazing, this was one hell of a drive. Intense story with great characters, suspense, and hot alpha males. I liked the criminal plot as well as the romance. There are still so many secrets lurking between the 3 main characters it is Hard to get the bigger picture. The writing is good, the characters well developed and the chemistry is smoking hot, like their scenes together. Great book and I can't wait to read more.
I do not usually give out 5 star reviews but this one deserves it! It took me Labor Day weekend to bang out this book and I had to even hide during some of the barbecues to see what happens next. Books like this is what keeps me going in life. I loved every second of this book and I did not want to put it down. The writing is phenomenal, and the love triangle had me pulled in every direction. Not sure who I wanted more; Sin, the bad boy, smoking hot cop or Xander, the epitome of elegance, charm and sophistication??? I see why she gave in to both!
I am usually very hesitant when it comes to trios and ménage romances. Sometimes they come off too corny or way too unrealistic. Hawthorne does an amazing job keeping the plot suspenseful and the characters appealing and believable. I am very curious to see how this is going to play out because that scene with all three was intense! Put me to bed now!
I am glad I read some of the reviews before…HOLY CLIFFHANGER! Luckily, we do not have to wait too long! Book #2 looks like it is going to be out by October 2! That’s going to be one long ass month! #TEAMSIN
Oh man I hate leaving feedback like this. I makes me feel so guilty but I just had a tough time with this one. Too many inconsistencies for me to really get into it.
Thanks to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
At the beginning of the story Elizabeth tells us she just met her bff Sofia a month ago and that they became fast friends. So in a month enough drama happened to cause the rest of the story? Not buying it. I don’t want to ruin anything but that just makes no sense to me.
THEN when we fast forward 6 years the MC is friends with a girl named Sofia but now she says they’ve only known each other 2 years. Is it the same girl or a different girl? That question drove me nuts the entire story.
On top of that, we have an MC who became a cop for “revenge” and somehow at 23 years old she’s a detective? Try beat cop. BTW she’s a great cop too. And she’s not a cop because she wants to be it’s only to look into her past.
Then we have the two boys. Dark and broody and sexy but sweet, I guess you could describe them. Both feel like the MC is their possession and they treat her that way. Sin, who at one time is called Alexander Sinclair, then later the same character (Sofia) who introduces him to us asks the MC if his name is Alex or Alexander? WHAT, you’re the person who told us his name is Alexander. I’m so confused. Then you have Xander who just happens to show up to “save” Elizabeth’s life.
It’s amazing to me that this 23 year old detective, who doesn’t trust easily, trusts these 2 characters without question? She can’t tell that these 2 guys are so involved in her life that one is her boss/partner and the other owns the building she lives in and has a place right below her, these don’t raise any warnings her in?
There is a cliff hanger at the end, if you aren’t a fan you may want to wait until the next book comes out before you read this one. I won’t say that I will never recommend this one but it won’t be at the top of my list. I personally don’t need to read the next book but it sure seems like plenty of people are into this one.
Interesting beginning........
Sinful is the first book in the Sinful Surrender Quartet series by Katherine Hawthorne. As this is the first book I have read by this author I was not sure what to expect, as you just never know with a "new to you" author". But when I read the book description intrigued me and I do enjoy a good MFM story, so I decided to take a chance and see what happened.
This book is the prequel to the series and lays some of the background for the story-line and characters. I was expecting one sort of story but instead it became something different. Instead of focusing on character development and then the relationships between them it was more focused on the mystery side of the story, the detective stuff. I was perplexed by this as I would have much preferred to get a good build-up of the characters so that I could understand them better........what their thoughts are, why they act as they do, why they choose certain things, what their motivations are. So basically the stuff that makes them tick. I am hoping the characters will be more flushed out in the next book. Be warned that as this is a prequel it does end with a cliffhanger which is picked up in the next book, Sensuous. But I think some of the story-line will be drawn out for the entire series.
So while I am not completely immersed in this series yet it has piqued my interest enough read the next book.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
Sinful is a mix of dramatic, tragic, suspenseful, and sexy. A combination that I generally like, but try as I might, I just couldn't connect with this one. I don't know exactly what it was about Belle, but I never warmed up to her and I didn't feel the chemistry that should've been there between her and either of the men in her life. The story is certainly steamy, but without chemistry, it's just one more steamy scene. There was just something about Belle that put me off and I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what Xander and Sin were so obsessed over. From the blurb and the reviews I've seen, I had high hopes for this story, and I'm clearly in the minority, so I'm just going to chalk this one up to not the book for me. My recommendation would be to check this one out for yourself, but heed the cliffy warning because it's a big one.
This was a quick read. I was glued to the murder mysteries right off the bat. Belle's character was not really believable. She didn't act like a police officer or detective. We are told she is smart and can take care of herself. But it doesn't really show that in this book as often as it should. Belle was so wishy washy it drove me crazy. It's always frustrating in books when adults don't communicate with each other. Belle, Sin, and Xander all needed to sit down and have a real chat about how they each felt. The relationship Belle has with these two men doesn't quit make a whole lot of sense. It didn't seem like it was a natural progression between them. I liked Sin so much more than Xander and wished there had been more pages with her and him together. All in all I was glued to the mysteries that were unfolding.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Normally this would be a book I would truly love. The men were hot and mysterious and just enough alpha male for me.
But it was the girl that I couldn't stand. She wasn't believable at all. Masters degree, making detective by 23? While still being in high school at 17? Not going to happen. And really, that bothered me, so much so that I won't be reading the rest of the series.
Make her a rookie or make her older, at least 29 or 30.
The ending was awful, too. Really there was no need to end it like that in order to get people to read the next book.
