Suzie and Mary love running Dune House, their beautiful bed and breakfast on the beach. But sharing a car is proving difficult as their business expands. So, they decide to do a little car shopping which turns out to be a huge success. They love their new vehicle and are looking forward to driving it. But their plans come to a grinding halt when someone is murdered. Suzie and Mary can’t leave a good mystery alone and decide to do a little investigating themselves. They find their hands full when they have to juggle hosting their guests, looking into a murder, and dealing with a couple of detectives who would prefer that they mind their own business. They must navigate through a web of suspects in a race to find the murderer. Will Suzie and Mary find the murderer fast enough? Or will they land up spinning their wheels?
The 13th book in this series and they just keep getting better. I love Mary, Suzie and all the other characters like Paul, Wes , and Jason. I love the descriptions of the beach and the town. I also like the fast moving mystery but I do wonder when they have time to run the bed and breakfast with all their investigating. I like the interactions of the characters and the whole little town feeling
I really enjoyed reading this book. I would have loved an epilogue at the end, but then I’m not the writer and she knows best. Thank you for keeping me guessing. I can’t wait to download the next book!
This is another great Dune House Cozy Mystery. Mary and Suzie were excited to be seeing three new guests at Dune House. However, a fourth knocked on the door and was given a room. When Mary and Suzie went to see a potential second car for them, they decided to purchase it. It did some repairs and Graham in Parish was recommended. They took the car to Graham immediately and met Graham, his secretary Carlene and his helper Brody. When Mary went back to see Graham, she found him dead under a vehicle and Carlene was on the floor with a huge bump on her head. The story begins to show signs of racing cars, fancy cars with cloned entry fobs and suspicious deals at Graham's car shop. Wes, Mary's boyfriend, is a detective on the Parish police force. He is investigating Graham's death and is worried that Mary and Suzie will be injured while they, too, are investigating. The story has several suspects and lots of twists and turns. An enjoyable read for fans of cozy mysteries.
Meh this one bugged me a lot more than the others have. They just straight out walked all over the police investigation in this one. They were also way more reckless with their own safety in this one. It almost reads like fan fiction instead of the author's voice. There was just a little too much blatant disregard of the law in this one too be enjoyable. It also really bugs me that each book seemingly forgets what happened in previous ones. They've been kidnapped, threatened, held at gunpoint, knifepoint and a myriad of other really scary things and in this one they freak out because a private detective that's a former police officer has a gun pointed at someone else. It's just a little too ridiculous. I need a bit more continuity of characterization. I'm hoping the next one pulls it back in line or I may be done with this series.
10 stars!!!! Boy, did Suzie and Mary get in a big mess trying to fix a SUV they bought. When everyone you ask tells you the same repair shop you don't really think anything is wrong. Mary and Suzie found out different. After they were warned not to stick their noses in police investigation, but Suzie has a hard head. And talks Mary into following. They remind me of LUCY AND ETHEL with no danger. There were quite a few suspects, but who had the motive. You won't be disappointed. The book ended too soon for me. Hurry with the next book, Cindy Bell.
I realize this is a cozy mystery, but Suzie and Mary's careless investigation into murders, putting themselves into danger, is getting old. Susie's cousin is a cop and so is Mary's boyfriend, but they both have the attitude that they can solve a murder better than the police. Seems like every book one or both of them is put in a life threatening situation that they have to be rescued from because of their carelessness. Think I will go read something with more substance.
I enjoyed the characters, the setting, and the mystery, and I hadn't determined the murderer until the heroines did. My only criticism is that the heroines, who are meant to be intelligent and thoughtful, regularly put themselves in danger without a thought. I would like them to be just a bit more cautious. Overall, a delightful mystery with a satisfactory resolution.
Omg this was a bit scary in places, so much for the two being careful. Action packed rollercoaster of tension and suspense, a chase fraught with danger to catch a killer. I do think maybe the ladies actually need to let the guys know where they are going, coz if I was them I'd be extremely angry at the risks they took in this one. Poor Pilot keeps getting left on his own as well which isn't fair. At least this crime was a bit away from the house. Great characters and fabulous plot.
This murder mystery was very good. Mary and Suzie are quite the team. Thought it might be Carlene when the bruise on her head was mentioned in comparison with bump on Wes head. Thoroughly enjoy the story. Hope you'll include these characters in future series. Thank you. Stay well.
Mary and Sara keep getting themselves deeper and deeper into danger as the series goes on. This setting took place way away from Dune House, yet, they just happened to be bringing their new SUV into the service station to be fixed. I love the relationship between Sara and Paul. I just wish that Mary and Wes would speed things up a bit. Overall an outstanding mystery.
Love the Dune House mysteries. This one is just as good as the previous ones. I really like how the characters relationships are evolving. The stories are easy to read mysteries with a little romance thrown in. Highly recommend this series. You can't go wrong with Cindy Bell!
I had bought a few of the books I didn't have of the Dune House Cozy Mystery series and am glad I did! I'm usually a fairly slow reader but I started this book this morning and finished it this evening! I think that must be a record for me. Anyone who hasn't read the Dune House series should do so. It has a bit of everything.
This is the 13th in the Dune House mystery series but the first one I've read. I was not particularly impressed. Stilted dialogue and way too many car chases by the older friends who run the Dune House B&B. I received the 13-16th installments as a boxed set, so I will read the rest and hope they improve!
The girls just bought a new used car. After dropping it off at the mechanic, Mary, the next day, finds the owner dead under a truck. What could’ve happened? Was it a robbery gone wrong? It was another chance for Mary and Suzie to seek justice for someone. Could this have something to do with a disgruntled race car driver?
Another excellent book by Cindy Bell. I love the Dune House series. Lots of twists in this one. Didn't see this ending coming. Can't wait for the next book in this series. Of course anything by Cindy Bell is great.
Another wonderful story from this great storyteller. I thoroughly enjoy reading her wonderful stories. Always so very well worth the read. You won't be disappointed.
Cindy Bell you are truly a talented mystery writer. The twists and turns in this story truly had me wondering for a while. I couldn’t wait to find out who committed this murder. It was well worth the read. Now the next book awaits me. LoL
Ok, really good mystery, but the ending? Really? How can two intelligent women be so stupid and constantly take so many chances to put themselves in harm's way? The writing is good, and I recognize the amateur sleuthing is part of building up the suspense, but I just can not fathom that Mary and Suzie never ever seem to learn or take the danger seriously. After reading 13 books in this series, this pattern has become annoying and too predictable.
Again, this book centres on Suzie and Mary who are the owners of Dune House. A beautiful B&B by the beach. Only this time they find themselves struggling to share one car between the two of them, until they find another car which is great for Mary. Eventually this car goes in for some work to be done but then the car isn’t returned and the owner of the garage is nowhere to be found, nor are they answering their phone. Thus leading Suzie and Mary to become concerned. Soon after, another dead body is found and you guessed it, it’s another murder! Suzie and Mary are unable to help themselves and again decide to involve themselves in the investigation to try and work out who committed this crime, much to the dismay of the professionals who have told Suzie and Mary to mind their own business while they work on figuring out who could have committed this murder. As a reader, I was hooked by the way Bell has written this book and I felt as though I was there with the characters experiencing the same feelings/emotions that the characters themselves were feeling. Such as relief, shock, sadness and more as they take you on this journey to working out who committed the murder, but also stress as they try to juggle hosting guests and solving the murder. Definite 5 star read for me!
