Various team ups and follow ups from other books. I could see how some readers would be confused by this.

For something titled The Complete Collection, it sure feels incomplete. Probably 3.5 still.

But let's do other things first. It's a bunch of fun Spider-Man stories, with an array of Marvel characters. There's an arc with Punisher and Daredevil that I felt dragged. I haven't read Punisher in an age, I skipped the Netflix series, I get Punisher is never going to be a good time, the truth of the character is accurately portrayed, but it was a tough stretch.

The book has no continuity. Each new arc doesn't seem to have a relation to previous arc, for Spider-Man or the world. Its the comic book version of Law & Order or the Original Star Trek; in neither of those shows mostly what happened previous episode doesn't affect the next episode.

That had to be a bunch of fun when it was a monthly comic, but it makes for a very weird collection to read. Marvel collection, hell Marvel titles these days have an arc to follow. This really doesn't, I haven't studied if this true, so it feels like they didn't include an issue. There's an issue before Spider-Man ends up in the Savage Lands. There's an issue before Spider-Man winds up on Carol Danvers' Air Force base.

I'm one of those collection readers that don't worry too greatly about all that, because I trust the writers are going to tell me everything I need to know to get through the issue. If you can do that and just trust that idea, go along for the ride, it's a fun, if somewhat narratively choppy ride.

That date started complete fiction, because I just don't note when I started a book.

Not one of the best spider-man books , some terrible art and stories , I can see why this title was cancelled after 22 issues , one for spidey completists only

Have people read Marvel Team-Up? Avenging Spider-Man was meant to be a modern MTU where Spidey teamed up with various other characters. Yes, there is a no real continuity from each 1 or 2 issue arc to the next. #6 is part of a crossover with Daredevil and Punisher, #8 is an epilogue to Ends of the Earth, and #11 is a fun story also featured in the Spider-Man book Danger Zone. I like this because it's fun to read and NOT continuity heavy, even though I am a big Spidey fan and into the continuity and overarching plot and characters.

It isn't really 'complete' though- you really need the Superior Spider-Man Companion book to finish this series (15.1, 16-22) and then swaps to a new title with Superior Spider-Man Team-Up (1-12).

*I've read A LOT more than I've reviewed, so it's time for some knee-jerk reactions!*

A really solid, fun collection. Some of these stories I'd come across in other volumes, but they were worth reading again. Lots of team-ups, which just added to the fun, and even some nice introspective moments for Peter. The only downside is that these stories seemed to take place after the "One More Day" fiasco (you know, when Marvel decided that both Peter and the fans couldn't be happy). As solid as these stories were, they would've been better if Peter and MJ had still been married. (And maybe they were for some of these, but that was really not the vibe I got. I miss them as a couple!)

Avenging Spider-Man is basically "Spider-Man Team-Up" under another name. The collection consists of short stories featuring Spider-Man working with another Marvel hero. Since it features rotating creative teams, there is no long-term plotting. The stories are mostly fine, but a little uneven. They are fun enough, but nothing earth-shaking. If you don't go into this with huge expectations, it's a decent way to spend a couple hours.
