“You must keep it inside. You must never let it out.It must never gain control.Let it be who you are and you will lose everything.Do I make myself clear?”“Yes, Sir.”ControlIt’s a way of life for Max McQueen. It doesn't come easy, but he thought he had it mastered.Until nowNow nothing worksIt’s slipping awayHe must find a way to get it back Or he risks losing everything. It’s just a word. But it’s the thing he needs most of all. It’s what holds him together.Or is it what holds him back?Just a word - Book One
I make no apology. It isn't really a secret. I don't like paranormal.
I just don't get it. But, my adoration of Kerry Heavens compelled me to read The C Word. Getting over the argument going on in my head I hunkered down and got to know Maxi - City Boy, and T - Rocker Boy.
One thing I do love is M/M and I have to give a big thumbs up for the M/M sex scenes. Very hot. I shan't reveal, but there is a particular thing they do that I find such a turn on. I needed to find a Tumblr scene to watch a re-enactment.
I loved the secret garden scene.
Richard is a dick. He needs a kick to the proverbial.
I still don't understand what Maxi and T mean to each other, or the role that Valentina Charm plays (I love, love that name by the way), but I want to know.
Well i was pleasently suprised by this book, but i shouldn't of been as i saw a review from a book girlfriend of mine and we both like similar books so i was intrigued, glad i picked this up as i really liked this story it gripped me from the off.
The start of this book had me hooked but it wasn't what i thought at all, this story kept my attention as you never knew what was happening, the story line was fabulous where it kept you guessing and then you just needed to find out more.
The first book i have read from this author was truly something i never expected,it was sexy, gripping and held my attention throughout. If you love MM/MF this is definitely a book to get,it is only a short introduction so not a long book but so well worth it.Its hot steamy read with pnr thrown in,what is not to like,Max is your hot city guy, throw in a hot rock star and this works.Well worth a read.Four and a half hot sexy stars.
This book has potential. The plot was different than the traditional shifter book, for that it impressed me for the first half of the book - especially with the mix of bdsm into the paranormal. However, that didn't last long and the later half of the book fail to explore the plot potential. The plot progression was clumsy, and especially rushed near the end. The writing, while wasn't bad it was lacking. My biggest problem with the book is probably Max, the narrator. The author seemed to want to project an image of a composed controlled man with an identity denial crisis. However, in reality Max appeared immature. He was a huge contradiction, conflicting in a childish kind of way. Either way, I wasn't convinced with Max personality nor his relationship with T. Their relationship seemed forced. It would have been nicer if the author have give it more time to bloom or at least give the book a catalyses of some sort to make the whole attraction more believable.
I would probably give this book a higher score, but it caught me at a bad time plus it just didn't work for me at all!!
Forget about any prejudice you could have about your reading preferences; none matters with this book/series. Why? Because the ride is freaking awesome, so intense and so addictive, you’re only left with one word on the tip of your lips at the end of this... MORE. Max is ... indescribable. Really, he’s so complexe, so obsessed.... being in his head is almost like riding a race car; its a swift of adrenaline, exhilaration and intensity.... you feel like he could take you anywhere, you’ll follow... but you really dont have any clue where you’ll end and that’s the most awesome part of it. Everything about him takes you on the edge. To what? Only he knows. It’s why he’s so fascinating. And T? God, give me some T, I’ll drink it! That bond is just unexplainable but what it lift in you as a reader? Crazy insanity! You feel it and trying to describe it is just impossible. Which is an amazing job from the author. You simply have no idea where she will take you but I know one thing for sure, I’ll be there for the next chapter. I’m hook, intrigued as f*** and Kerry did an terrific job with this book because she created something that will reach you, no matter what your barriers are as a reader. It’s that good and you just want more and more and more. Crazy, hot, intriguing, steamy and awesome. That resumes it mostly.
Really enjoyed this short but very hot and sexy m/m (also some m/f) pnr book. It's the first in the series and introduces Max, he's not human and he's all about control, he must keep the beast at bay. He's a successful career man, following in his fathers footsteps and control is everything, until he's drawn to mysterious bass player T and suddenly all his rules start to unravel. This is a hot, steamy read, intriguing story with some mild bdsm and a lot of potential. The paranormal side is relatively light but I'm sure more will come to the forefront in the next book as this does end on a cliffhanger. There is another on the way I hope? I'll certainly be on the lookout for it!
This is a paranormal/ shifter romance and I loved it! I’m just so gutted that it finished and there is no more in the series released yet. Looking at the date of publication I don’t know if more will be and I am gutted I was invested!
It was spicy, it was hot as hell and it was very different. Wish I know how the story went.
I enjoyed reading this book although it’s not my usual genre. A short but good start in The C Word series. Max is the hot City Boy shape shifter who is in control of his beast, until T the young musician turns up on the scene hell bent on breaking Max’s control.
I liked this book, it was an enjoyable read. Even though it was written 3 years ago it appears to be the first in a series and I'm glad as I would like to read more and see where things go for Max.
Why did I wait so long to read this book? I devoured it. Then when I turned the last page and there was no more, I discovered even I have beast in me, and she growled.
Maxi is insistent on keeping his life under control. He's insistent on keeping the beast within him under control. Control. Control. Control. Me... I was screaming lose control all the way through. I wanted to see what happens!
A mystery guy called T enters Maxi's life, sending things sideways *insert a big swoon*. Richard, Mr Beta, is in the mix . A stunner called Rose. Family. And of course, his best friend Valentina.
Maxi has been taught how to be the best at business and excelled. He's been taught how to be himself, within control, and has that covered. He knows what he wants, what he doesn't want, and how to control it all.
I loved the mix of family, friendship, the known and the unknown. The characters have depth, and had me gasping and ahh-ha'ing in all the right places. There were no stumbling blocks, the whole story flowed from start to finish.
This book has left me wanting to say... Maxi, don't learn, don't control, for once, just be. (Or at least give it a go)
I’m new to Kerry Heavens. Never read her work before and at the suggestion of a friend I was able to read an arc of “The C Word”. It was described to me as a M/M paranormal/shifter series. After having just read a book like this, I definitely wanted to give this new intriguing genre a try.
Maximus (Maxi) McQueen strives for one thing and one thing only and that’s: CONTROL. See Maxi has a side to him that the humans of this world would never understand. He is an entity that is just beyond what control can even think about containing. Even with his protective wolf pack by his side he still fights the animal that is ready to let loose and seemingly wreck havoc on this innocent world. What he doesn’t expect to tip his world on its side is in a form of a man in a rock band with his sexy tattered jeans and ripped shirt. T is able to connect with him mentality and that shakes poor Maxi to his core. He wants T that is purely evident, but can the animal in him stay at bay long enough for him and T to figure out what they mean to each other or is destruction their fated path?
I thought the story in itself was good, slow pace at times. I wondered often where the author was trying to go with the story. There were so many innuendos and secrets that were just screaming to come to the forefront. Fyi, this is book 1..so we have a few books to read in order to see the nitty gritty of what’s going on between Maxi and T. And for a moment lets get to the coupledom of Maxi and T. When the story focused on those two I was in heaven. I think they both are good, developed characters that I can’t wait to see develop more throughout the series. I would have loved to have seen the animal that Maxi is trying to control in him break free, but that will have to be for another day. And what’s up with T? Does he have Maxi’s best interest at heart or is there something sinister about him? I love him, but there is something about him, that in a way, sits a little uneasy with me. Watch out Maxi! I just don’t know.
Am I coming back for more? Hell to the YES! This book ends on a cliffhanger with Maxi making a huge decision that could impact his life entirely… intrigued? Well then what are you waiting for a pick up this book. Out of a 5 I’m giving this 4 stars!
I just dabble in paranormal books and have never read a shifter book, but I decided to take a chance on this book and am so glad I did!!! I LOVED IT! I was first drawn in by the cover and then the synopsis got me intrigued. This book is extremely well written and the story flows so well. It is a quick read but you really get to know the characters and become invested in the story.
This is part one of the story and in it we meet and get to know the characters. We get their backgrounds and a taste of what is to come. The ending leaves things open, and we are left with a lot of questions of where the story is going to go. I was drawn in immediately and was left with wanting and needing more.
This book is all about CONTROL, however I was about to lose control over how EXTREMELY HOT the sex scenes are. They are detailed and will have your kindle on fire. A lot of sex happens but each scene helps you to learn about the main character Max. There are M/M scenes and some domination/bondage scenes, so if that isn’t your thing then this probably isn’t a book for you. But if you like a book with detailed/scorching sex and a storyline that grips your attention then you should be one-clicking this book immediately.
Max is all about control. He needs it. Not having it makes him crazy. Max works hard to maintain control of all aspects of his life. When he feels his control slipping, he goes to Richard who "helps" him rein it in.
T is everything Max is not. He's easy going, he's blue jeans while Max is pressed seams and suits, T is a rocker and Max is a banker and yet they are drawn to each other. Compelled towards one another like a force of nature.
I could not put this book down. I was absolutely hooked from the first chapter and enthralled throughout the rest of the book. The chemistry is palpable between Max and T. The control that Max fights so hard to hold on to is something I could feel in my chest. I loved this book. I wanted to throw it across the room at the end, but I was left with an overwhelming desire for Book 2. I only hope that Ms. Heavens doesn't make me wait too long.
I forgot how much this book moved me and gripped me by the throat.
This is not your typical supernatural read. This is something on a higher plane. Even if you are someone who is not a fan of paranormal, you may just find something here for you.
Maxi is struggling to keep a hold of his C word and when "T" walks across his path, that is challenged even more. Watching Maxi try and control his urges and desires is delightful in a way that the witch in Snow White makes the poison apple. You cannot stop reading because you must know more.
The M/M scenes were the perfect blend of spice and zing and "cold shower" inducing heat you want in a story.
I cannot wait for more. I need more Words!
PS - Screw Richard... he better get what he deserves!
Dude. I've maybe read a handful of paranormal books and that's only if I count the Twilight series among them. See - I don't even know enough about the genre to know what's included in it.
Anyway, I do have a point here. And that is that I'll try not to lose my ever-loving mind as I wait for the next book. I need more of everything that I just read, and I needed it yesterday.
