Finding the One: Box Set

Rate this book
Four short contemporary gay romances by best-selling M/M author Nell Iris about finding -- and holding on to – “The One.” Collected together in an exclusive box set for the first time are the stories:

Unconditionally: After six years together, Luca and Gus are finally getting married. On their wedding day Luca’s mother sees her flamboyant son wearing a veil and explodes. Her hateful words trigger traumatic memories and instead of walking down the aisle, Luca runs away. When Gus realizes Luca is missing he follows him, intent on convincing him to come back. Will he succeed in time for the wedding ceremony?

Find His Way Home: Elliot is miserable living in the big city. He longs for tranquility but is unwilling to move away from his partner Mick. After a dramatic event, he flees and goes back home to a cabin in the mountains. Slowly he regains his calm, but being away from Mick is hard. When a ghost from Elliot's past shows up, he’s faced with a hard decision: stay on the mountain alone or go back to the city, and Mick?

Nobody Else’s: Beckett Cooper has been secretly infatuated with his BFF’s younger brother Levi for years. Levi Byrne has liked Beckett for as long as he can remember. When an opportunity presents itself for them to get to know each other better, they both grab it and make the best of it. Will the stars align in their favor and lead Beckett and Levi to a happily ever after?

Unexpected Christmas: Thrown together by family drama, strangers Daniel and Axel end up spending Christmas Day getting to know each other. Axel is nothing like Daniel expected. Behind the scary-looking exterior, he hides the heart of a teddy bear and between Disney princesses and erotic poetry, Daniel no longer fears for his life ... but for his heart.

Nell Iris is my go to author when I need a quick infusion of love and sexiness in a small package. Most of her books are novellas/short stories and she packs quite a lot of emotion in each. When I bought this I wasn't really paying attention - just one-clicked - and realized that I'd read 3 out of the 4 including in this box set. But do what ?! I just did a re-read.

Unconditionally is told in a flashback/current story way that just drew me in. The MCs are Luca and Gus who met at a club and we are given a lovely tale over 6 years of their love for each other. Particularly loved the way Luca is written - take him as he is and that is just what Gus does. Beautifully done!!

Find His Way Home is actually the first Nell Iris I read and this re-read just reminds why I continue to devour her books. Elliott is miserable because Mick is closeted at work. They attend events as "friends" because Mick is petrified of losing his high powered position as an attorney. Elliott is a teacher and a devastating event at his school sends Elliott running to the small town he grew up in. He needs peace and quiet but what does his absence do to his and Mick's relationship.

Nobody Else's is about Levi and Beckett. Beckett is best friends with Levi's older brother. Each has a crush on the other but neither have acted on that crush.

And finally Unexpected Christmas - Even though it is short, all of the emotion and love comes pouring out of this odd tale about Ax and Daniel who meet during a snowstorm.

I loved all the stories here. The author has a great way of writing conversations and dates that are interesting, reveal something about the characters, and are like real people getting to know one another. Nobody is mean, no big misunderstandings, just adults finding love.
