Michaela gave up her chance at a lifetime with Caleb to stay and nurse her dying sister and care for her infant nephew. She doesn’t regret her decision but sometimes in the middle of the night she thinks about what might have been.

Awesome
I loved Cal's story! It is not often when we see a man mature to realize what he really walked away from. To see an accomplished man stop and really evaluate his history of choices and decisions then make appropriate ammends and make new choices was refreshing! I loved it start to.finish. Obviously it could have been longer but if you can tell it in a short story why not.? Bravo Olivia great story. Davia

Two very stubborn people get a second chance at love. Caleb and Michaela were childhood sweethearts. Caleb always had big dreams to leave the small town of Applewood and had hoped that Michaela would go with him when that time came. But something tragic happened to Michaela's sister in which just weeks after giving birth she died leaving Michaela to raise her son on her own. Her outlook on life changed and her fear of moving to Chicago where Caleb's new job as a FBI agent was caused a rift that broke these two up and left hard feelings between them.
Now almost 10 years later Caleb is back in Applewood disgraced from his job and to help his father with the care of his mother who had a mild stroke. He never saw himself losing the job he loved and having to return home with his tail between his legs. He also knows with Applewood being such a small town there is now way he can avoid seeing Michaela who he's never quite forgiven but also never forgotten.
Michaela never thought she had a choice all those years ago. She did what she thought was right for her sister's son. She's never forgiven Caleb for leaving her and is not happy he is back in town dredging up feelings she thought were dead.
These two were so freggin stubborn and neither wanting to admit to whose fault it was the relationship didnt work out. Once they had it out over past hurts it was Caleb that decided this time he was going to fight for what he wanted even though Michaela was leery about putting her heart out there again because this time it wouldnt just be her that would be hurt it would also be her son who has become attached to Caleb.
Short, sweet and a great ending.

A prominent case complete with accusations of mishandling and misconduct leaves Caleb with time on hands. Luckily or maybe not so luckily, Caleb is needed at home to help his elderly parents.

Now that Caleb’s back in town, their friends and his parents see no reason why the pair don’t just apologize to each other and get back on the road to happiness together. None of the well-wishers understand how hurt or heartbroken both Caleb and Mika were or how stubborn they both are about apologizing and admitting the pain they each caused.
This short could’ve been too cute with small children in the middle or too angsty with two strong willed people but it deftly avoided both fates to be a quick, light read with a treacly ending; perfect for a rainy day or the beach.

Second chances bring unwanted danger......to Michaela’s heart❣
A novella that is short and sweet and all about second chances! Caleb has returned home after eight years for a number of reasons, namely his mother is recovering from a heart attack and the FBI who he has worked with for years doing undercover work, is being investigated for his last case that he led. Caleb doesn’t want to go to his hometown as he is worried about bumping into the only woman he’s ever loved, Michaela. Michaela still feels as though it’s Cal’s fault that things went pear shaped with their relationship years ago, but her sister was dying and she became a mother instead of an aunt to Alex. Now Cal is helping with the haunted house for their small town and Michaela isn’t sure how this is going to work!
Love anything by Olivia! Enjoyed this as it was more focused on the small town and second chances between Cal and Michaela and no where near as much danger as previous books, so my heart rhythm remained at a nice less anxious pace for once:) Happy reading 📖

Boring and pointless
Did not get the point to this at all Cal appeared as a side character in one of the previous books why any story about him has appeared makes no sense. This story was tediously boring the characters dull and lifeless a waste of reading time.

I liked the connection between Cal and Mika. They got a second chance to be together and to be a family. I was slightly disappointed that there was no link, no matter how small to the Anderson’s and the previous books in the series.

A great novella! I love this series and was sad to see it come to an end. I enjoy a good second chance romance, and this one was great. I appreciate that they took the time to know each other as adults. The ending was just perfect. Looking forward to reading more by this author!

Crossover with Johnson's HOT Seals and Jaymes' Danger Incorporated FBI series. Cal Faulkner has been working dangerous undercover work for years. After a long hard operation, he takes down a major criminal. Political quakes ensue and he is suspended. He assumes that the political pressure will kill his career, so he goes back to his home town to visit his parents, who are aging and in need of a little help from him. He will also be forced to face his high school sweetheart, who refused to leave Applewood to go to Chicago when he graduated from college.
She is now mother to a young son, having taken on the responsibility from her sister who had died when the boy was a baby. She is even less inclined to associate with Cal because she is afraid that if they become close again, he will leave again. They have changed, however, and the changes in them both lead to the HEA.

Caleb is home for three months while on a suspended leave from the FBI. Mika’s sister died months after Alex was born and her parents have also passed. Caleb promises Mika he isn’t leaving, he’s staying home. Mika tells Caleb that she and Alex will follow Caleb wherever he goes.
Love lost, found and returned. Sometimes this story line frustrates me. Thank goodness people grow up and try to see things through new eyes. What an amazing love story. They lost their true love. Each other. Both wanted different futures. I could feel the heart break and the fear as well as the love. A few tears were shed but the love story was excellent.

A great love story. A second chance love. Well-written with a little suspense and a lot of trying to recapture a lost love. Will be looking for more from this author.
