Crashing #2

Checking It Twice

Rate this book
Mike & Alexei are back, and they’re hotter than ever. After four years with Alexei, there are a few things Mike knows with absolute certainty: he loves Alexei, Alexei loves him, and Alexei gives the very best gifts. This Christmas is no exception, though Mike is having a hell of a time figuring out what, exactly, Alexei’s gift is. Alexei knows his gift this year is going to blow Mike’s mind, but in the meantime, it’s pretty hilarious watching Mike try to figure out what it is. Granted, Alexei does have a lot of surprises in store for Mike this week, and it sure as hell isn’t frankincense and myrrh.

Samantha Wayland

Samantha Wayland has three great loves in life; her family, writing books, and hockey. She is often found apologizing to the first for how much time and attention is taken up by the latter two, but they forgive her because they are awesome and she clearly doesn’t deserve them.

Sam lives with her family -- of both the two and four-legged variety -- outside of Boston. She is a wicked passionate New Englander (born and raised) who has been known to wax rhapsodic about the Maine Coast, the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont, and the sensible way in which her local brethren don’t see a need for directional signals (blinkahs!).

Her favorite things include mango martinis, tiny Chihuahuas with big attitude problems, and the Oxford comma.

I one-clicked the hell out of this story once I read the reviews.

More gay Canadian hockey players?

YES, PLEASE.

I have to admit I don't remember the first book well, but I recall it being HAWT as HELL, so bring it.

Alexei and Mike are DAMN SEXY together. I'm not too keen on threesomes, but the author did a fantastic job of showing the trust it takes to play like that.

Even after four years together, Mike and Alexei are adventurous and push boundaries, and are so insanely in LOVE, everyone else is just a kinky accessory.

Seeing established couples still going hot & heavy? That's just the best.

And Mike with his begging and wantonness and butt play kink ... I can't even.

Warning: NSFW ... or a nail salon. (Seriously, I was reading this story while getting a pedi today and had to start humming Christmas carols. Because. Hello, BUTT PLUG, you sexy motherfucker).

What else? Oh, yes, family, babies (they're cute in moderation), and the most awesome Christmas present(s) EVER.

I want Erik's story next! Erik and his monster *ahem* hockey stick.

Solid 4 Stars!

This was actually one of my favorite holiday reads! I was pleasantly surprised by the first book so it was great to catch up with Alexei and Mike!

And I didn't even mind the threesome! Huh!

My my, that was some mighty fine Santa Jizz!

I can see why people wouldn't care for this one as much particularly if you don't care for open relationships. If that's the case, prolly best to steer clear.

However, what I liked about it was how close Alexei and Mike are. You can see how much their relationship has strengthened over the past 4 yrs and even though Mike's getting pounded by Eric's monster cock they are still preeminent in each other's mind. Obviously, Eric's still a big part of it and Alexei's ex to boot, but he's a guest star in this fantasy and in now way threatens what Mike and Alexei have. I also preferred the D/s dynamics in this one to its predecessor.

Plus, I do love a bottom that begs and owns his cock hungry sluttiness. Especially when they mind while doing so.

Aside from the epic ménage scene the rest of it was very sweet which mitigated the sluttiness a tad. I'm going to read the Hat Trick series and am hoping the guys make a cameo so I can find out if they get their own lil Eleanor.

I love Mike and Alexei. <3

These two hockey playing dudes have some serious heat between them and they certainly know how to embrace their personal kinks... .

Panty-melting kink aside, Mike and Alexei are an extremely romantic pair and I especially enjoyed the Christmas gift sharing they did the end.

Spoilers below.

Samantha Wayland really knows how to bring the heat.
description

In my review of 'Crashing the Net', the preceding book, I asked the author to arrange a threesome between Mike, Alexei and Sidney Crosby. Unfortunately, Sidney Crosby was apparently too busy to engage in a kinky threesome, so he was replaced by someone else. I'm not complaining.

Had I not read a few reviews before starting, I wouldn't have known about the threesome. I really think that's something that should have been mentioned in the blurb, so that folks who didn't want to read about it could skip 'Checking It Twice'.

Personally, I was fine with the threesome. It makes sense to me that Mike and Alexei sometimes bring in a third, given that their whole relationship revolves around pushing boundaries. And it was fucking hot.

I haven't read Home and Away, so the secondary plot with the couple from that book didn't hold much interest for me. But even so, it made for some good holiday feels.

I'm really hoping that we get more of these two in the future!

As a disclaimer, please read Home and Away first and Meags's review as well.

99.9% of the time I would wholly be against this kind of set up, but for some weird reason, Alexei's gift was I hate to say it thoughtful, unconventional, and somehow worked out very, very well.

Be reassured that Alexei and Mike love each other soooo much and there is never, everany doubt of that. Filled with the holiday spirit, it brings home the importance of family, not only the one you're born with, but the family you make with others.

Sentimental, sappy, and wow - oh so smexy!

Umm...what😳

When you see a Christmas themed book as a follow up you may expect something sweet with the two MCs relationship developing further. What you don't expect is a threesome with MCs that involves an ex. An ex who in book 1 didn't seem on good terms with these two. So did I miss a book somewhere? The whole setup was odd and like many said out of left field.
I did like the appearance of the guys from Home&Away even though that came out of nowhere as well lol. There were a lot of sweet moments between Alexei, Mike, Rupert, Callum and the gang. The second part of this book was what I expected. It was a weird combo 😆
I will say this story was written better and flowed more. I'm just not big on the beginning🤷🏽‍♀️
Here is to hoping book 3 is better 🤞🏼

It was so nice to visit with Mike and Alexei again! I adore these two.

Checking it Twice takes place 4 years after the events in Crashing the Net. Rupert and Christian (from Ms. Wayland's book Home and Away) live in Alexei and Mike's warehouse mansion with their 2 boys. (They have their own units, so they don't actually live together.) The couples are incredibly close and spoke many times of being an extended family, which was a good thing for Mike because his parents have never gotten over the fact he is gay. Sister Jayne is onboard the Mike/Alexei love train and has moved out of her parent's home and making a life for herself. Alexei surprises Mike by buying a plane ticket for Jayne to visit this holiday.

Many life changing events happen in this book for both families and I won't spoil the surprises. You need to read the book!

One thing happened here that I was pretty leery about. But it actually worked out pretty well here and fit nicely into the storyline.

I really hope Ms. Wayland continues with these couples. I want to know more about their exciting future.

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*A little disappointed*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

Here I had thought I was getting something different for defenseman for Ice Cats Michael ‘Mike’ Erdo (26) and goalie Alexei Belov (36). I wasn't an overly fan of the but it was still a cute read and it was lovely to see Rupert and Callum and the kids. I wonder if we'll be getting more of Mike and Alexei...
Mike laughed, but it was kind of damp. Alexei pulled him in close, holding him tightly enough that it was difficult for either of them to breathe.
What the hell had he ever done to deserve this man?

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (Adult?) Contemporary Romance (M/M)
Series: - Series, Book Two.
Love triangle? -
Cheating? -
HEA? -
Favorite character? - Michael ‘Mike’ Erdo.
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Yes.
Would I recommend this book/series? - Yes.
Will I read this again in the future? - No.
Rating - 3 stars.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER!!!

Honestly, I was prepared to stop reading once I saw where the plot was going. I don't consciously read threesome -- unless during my personal challenge moment -- so if I knew that this novella would involve that, I would most probably stay away. I don't like the idea of sharing, even if the action is based on mutual consent for all the parties involved.

BUT, I admit that the threesome scene between Alexei, Mike, and Alexei's ex, Erik, was pretty hot. I could somehow accept the idea because it was basically a gift from Alexei, and Mike clearly enjoyed it. Alexei and Mike has been together for few years now, and are pretty solid as an established couple. So maybe it was one of their ways to spice up their love life.

The ending was pretty sweet, although not very surprising.

On a different note, I realized that I have not yet read the story of Callum and Rupert in Home and Away ... they made notable appearance here, and they were pretty much the happy couple with their foster kids. So, maybe I should check that one out (even if the idea of 400 pages kind of threw me a bit; very not used to romance being longer than 300 pages, you know?)

Okay. This did go where I was thinking it was headed but it didn't ruin the story like I was afraid it would.

I enjoyed the read and seeing all the characters that I enjoyed in the previous stories. Some nice family time and I have to wonder what'll happen in the future after the gifts were given out.

All in all I liked this. Looking forward to more of these characters.

This short Christmassy story was exactly what I felt to be missing from book #1, that little extra about the guys together, a peek on their lives after a so abrupt ending.
It was a joy to see how they settled in their lives.
I loved the characters development:
The alpha Alexei, 32

And Michael, 22

There were a few cheesy lines but I couldn't care less with all that hotness going around.

Great short read.
Scorching hot.
And... ta-dah!

DNF at 20 percent. I hate when this happens. Characters I liked in the first book are taken in a different direction, with no indication/warning in the blurb. I will be wary of picking up future books from this author. I thought this was just going to be a sweet, little holiday revisit. Instead . So disappointing. I remember liking the first book a lot.

When all you are expecting is a cute Christmas follow-up to a previous book, and you get a surprise threesome that adds nothing to the plot but gratuitous sex; plus the third is treated as a sex toy between the two MCs, then I have to pass. It's a shame, I won't be automatically buying this author anymore until I check reviews first. I don't read menages especially with an established couple from a previous book who worked really hard for their HEA. Not my cup of tea.

Far too short! As ridiculously erotic as book one though, this is basically an extended epilogue for this dynamic pairing.

There is a moment where they're having a threesome which, while it's ridiculously hot, seemed to come totally out of left field so I think I've missed a book out somewhere, probably Callum and Rupert's, as they seemed to have dropped into this story without any introduction.

Still, hot men, hockey and a very happy ending make this a good read.

The scene with Eric was pretty hot but I was a bit uncomfortable if I’m being honest For the most part, it was really nice seeing the whole gang again. I will definitely read more MM books from Samantha Wayland because she’s really good at writing ‘em.

3.5 stars. Inviting a third into the bedroom wasn't a surprise to me, after reading friends' reviews, but it still came as a shock to me in the fact that it didn't feel like this was ANYTHING the MCs would be interested in from my reading of Book 1. However, it is 4 years later, and things change and evolve in lots of relationships. I thought it was done well, with the exception of one of the "thirds" was an MC's ex. That's inviting trouble.

Still enjoyed though.

A short Christmas story with the Crashing the Net guys. It was both sweet and smutty. Really enjoyed it. It spoils the crap out of this author's other book... Home and Away which is not marked as being part of the series. It should be, imo....cuz...spoilers.

An established couple having a casual threesome with an EX is sooooo not my thing.

Not shaming, but sharing is a no-go for me.

🔥🔥🔥🔥/5 Heat
🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄/5 Christmas Magic

I will never turn down time with Alexei and Mike. I think Samantha Wayland should write about them forever. And boy did they bring the heat in this one. This pair always sizzles. 😍 This is a short Christmas novella set after their own short book. In Wayland’s multi couple hockey universe, this is set behind, “Home and Away,” (Rupert and Callum) but before, “Poetry in Motion.” (Travis and Barnaby) Alexei and Mike’s previous book was short so this one was a nice way to give them more of a firm HEA. Although, Wayland has said she’s working on another story with them. I’ll say yes please to that right now. I’ve said it before but I really love the whole world she’s created. She writes such lovable guys who just squeeze your heart and refuse to let go. 🥰

Holy hotness!

I remember nothing about the first book. But in this one, I loved the relationship dynamics between Alexei and Mike. The threesome was scorching hot, although I felt that the author tried too hard to show that Eric didn't matter and was just a human dildo.

But I want Eric and his monster's story next.

Despite my initial misgivings about a threesome, I quite enjoyed this continuation of Mike & Alexei's story. It was steamy, sweet, and sentimental enough to hit the perfect note for a Christmas short.

I have just re-read this after finishing "Home and Away". It was again, thoroughly enjoyable, but I felt it was more so with the second half of the book reading like "my missing epilogue" with Rupert, Callum and family.

*Contented sigh*

This was just a wonderful slice of a catch up with Mike and Alexei over the Christmas break. It was a short novella read, warm and full of the joys of the season with the family they made. Added in are sweet teases, some seriously smexy gifts and all ending (too soon) on a strong fluffy HFN.

Overall, a fab read, leaving me with the warm and fuzzies....but already wanting more......

So far I had enjoyed all books by Samantha Wayland around the hockey teams but this one wasn't for me.
Generally I've no problem with threesomes, though in this case Alexei gifted his boyfriend Mike with the dick of his ex and they treated him more like some toy than like a human.
Sorry, but that just felt weird to me.

This novella starts off with a bang in the form of a sizzling-hot threesome, then switches over to sweet with thoughtful Christmas gifts and family and “aww” moments. It left me with a smile on my face.

Only Alexei and Mike could convince me to read a threesome and still feeling that I'm reading romance instead of erotica. Those two are one of my fave couples ever!

"This man, who had barely been more than a boy when they’d first met, who had terrified him with his unique mixture of fierce independence and a soul-deep need for submission, had become everything.
'You are my home, Michael,' Alexei said, his voice gruff."
