Book 40 in the Oceanside Cozy Mystery series can be read as a standalone but will be enjoyed more as part of the series. A light, cozy mystery read with a dog loving and donut shop owning female private investigator, in a small town setting with quirky characters. *No cliffhanger! *No swearing! *No gore! *No graphic scenes!
Oh no ! there's another murder , with a close friend again. More unique characters and intriguing ones at that. I really love the storyline because it kept me guessing and I felt so sorry for one of the main characters. I was given a ARC before publishing . This is my honest opinion of this book.
Murder, robbery, a missing dog and Detective Shepherd, his wife Heather who owns Donuts Delights and is a PI plus Amy Givens, Heather’s best friend and a PI are all taken off the case with clear instructions not to get involved in the investigation. Why you ask? It seems Amy’s boyfriend, Jamie went to a very wealthy clients house to groom her dog. Arriving he finds the front door open and no one answers. So he walks into the house, finding his client lying in a pool of blood. He checks for a pulse and finds none. Then...Bonk...he is hit in the head and dragged into the hallway then left. When Heather, Amy, Detective Shepherd and Detective Peters arrive, Jamie is there with bloody hand plus the woman’s jewelry box is empty and money was taken. The jewelry and money are later discovered in the back of Jamie’s van. Was Jamie set up? Who would do this? Why? Since Heather & Amy are not allowed to investigate the murder, they set out to figure out who is setting up Jamie. They interview a variety of colorful, quirky and well drawn up suspects. They fortify themselves with the donut of the week.....the Oreo Crunch donut. A well plotted, interesting and intriguing read. This is book # 42 in the Oceanside Cozy Mystery series. An enjoyable, fast moving read!!!
When Jamie arrives at the home of a client to groom her dog, he finds her dead. After calling Amy and Heather and the police he realizes the dog is gone. Was it a robbery? Is Jamie guilty or innocent? Heather and Amy are on the case for answers and to find a missing dog. Another fun fast paced read in this series.
I received an ARC of this book prior to publication and decided to voluntarily review it. Opinions are my own.
Another murder has come to Key West, Florida and this time it’s personal for donut baker/P.I. Heather Shepherd and her best friend Amy Givens.
Amy’s boyfriend, Jamie, is an animal groomer working out of a van. He travels from place to place and sometimes to individual homes to groom his client's pets. Jaimie has an appointment to groom Mrs. Middleson’s miniature poodle. He arrives at the window’s home and finds her dead, lying in a pool of blood. Suddenly someone approaches Jamie and hits him over the head knocking him unconscious. When he comes to he calls the police and Heather and Amy. Jamie’s hands are covered in the dead woman’s blood. No one really thinks Jamie is the murderer but he is still a suspect. Another problem is that the little dog is missing. Jamie also tells the police that when he came to he was in a different spot than when he was hit over the head. Someone had moved him.
The police feel that the murder was a robbery gone bad. All of Mrs. Middleson’s safes were open and her money and jewelry are gone. Then the unthinkable happens. A bag of money and jewels is found in Jamie’s grooming van hidden in the back.
Jamie insists that he did not kill the older woman but why was the bag of stolen goods found in his van. Is someone trying to frame him for the murder and if so, who and why?
Heather and Amy are on the case trying to find the answers to all these questions and to prove Jamie’s innocence.
“Oreo Crunch & Murder” is author Susan Gillard’s 42nd book in her popular Oceanside Cozy Mystery Book Series. It’s filled with all the usual characters and of course Heather’s newest donut creation. Another fun summer read.

Jamie arrives at Mrs. Middleson's home to groom her toy poodle. She doesn't answer the door and the door is open so Jamie goes in. He finds her on the floor dead. The next thing he knows he wakes up in the hallway. He called the police, Heather and Amy. They find the safe open and think it was a robbery gone bad. The dog is also missing. Then they find money and jewelry in the back of Jamie's van. He is now the number one suspect. Because he is Amy's boyfriend and friends with Ryan and Heather Chief Chet suspends them from working on the case. He makes Peters lead detective and someone from Robbery will be helping him. Who would want to kill Mrs. Middleson? And Why? Is someone trying to frame Jamie? Could this have something to do with his tires going flat so often? Maybe somebody who didn't like the way he groomed their dog? Or another groomer? Heather and Amy decide they could try to figure out who is after Jamie. Chief Chet didn't say they couldn't do that. Jump on the bandwagon and come along on this ride. Can you spot any clues the girls could have missed? Will you figure it out first? I voluntarily receivewd a copy of this book and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.
One of Jamie’s dog grooming clients has been murdered and Jamie is being framed. Anyone who knows Jamie knows he would never hurt anyone but when the jewelry and money stolen from the murder victim turn up in Jamie’s grooming van, things don’t look good. To make matters worse Chief Chet has removed Heather, Amy, and Ryan from the case since they are too close to the suspect. Can they solve the case without having access to all the information?
I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.
Jamie is in trouble again. This time its for murder. He goes to a client's house and finds her dead and her dog missing. There is also jewelry missing but Heather knows that Jamie didn't do either the robbery or the murder. With the help of Ryan and Peters they do get to the bottom of the case. Amy sits this one out to stay with Jamie
This was a wonderful book, where I didn’t figure out who the murderer was until the very end. I enjoyed having Jamie front and center. I highly recommend this book and series.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
