About the author

Yves Sente was born in Brussels in 1964. When he was little, he read La Marque Jaune, Jacobs' masterpiece, over and over again. Little did he know at that age that The Adventures of Blake and Mortimer would determine his destiny...!
In 1998, while he was working for Le Lombard, he worked with the cartoonist André Juillard on the script of La machination Voronov, a new episode of the Blake and Mortimer, a Cold War story acclaimed by critics and the public. Yves Sente then went on to write Les Sarcophages du 6e continent, where he reveals the young life of Professor Mortimer. He confirmed his writing talents with La Vengeance du Comte Skarbek (Dargaud; The Revenge of Count Skarbek, Europe Comics) and then Thorgal (Le Lombard; Cinebook/Europe Comics in English), taking over for Jean Van Hamme alongside Rosinski.

XIII goes to rescue Jones and the General from the Taliban. Then he sets himself up to infiltrate the Mayflower Project who it looks were the ones behind the XX conspiracy. This story is so ridiculously complicated at this point. Sente needs to look into simplifying the story, not making it more complicated. Everything doesn't need to build off of XIII's history.

Aún a pesar de algunas situaciones muy traídas por los pelos (algo ya habitual de este segundo volumen de la serie), sigue resultando intrigante e interesante. Eso sí, deberían ir pensando en ponerle el broche y darle un fin a la altura.

Après 19 tomes conclus par "Le dernier round", l'histoire complexe du héros XIII a rebondi avec de nouveaux auteurs.
A l'issue des 5 tomes supplémentaires (n°20 à 24) pour lesquels il était sans doute inimaginable de donner à XIII une nouvelle identité (il en a eu tellement dans le premier cycle), le fil narratif choisi cette fois, a conduit à remonter sa généalogie du XIXe siècle au XVIe en croisant celle qu'on lui connaissait déjà (fort embrouillée et semée d'embûches) à un héritage encore plus improbable (ce lien avec la dynastie des Tudor et la reine Elizabeth Ière !).


Mais on sait depuis le début que l'amnésie de XIII permet à des auteurs plein d'imagination de lui inventer une existence romanesque en mêlant lui ou ses ancêtres à différents événements historico-politiques, comme par exemple ici, l'arrivée des pèlerins anglais venus coloniser les futurs États-Unis.

Côté scénario, si on accepte les nombreuses invraisemblances et la façon dont XIII échappe en permanence à ses poursuivants, il reste donc toujours nécessaire, quand on démarre un tome, de lire le résumé des épisodes précédents et côté dessin, plus moderne que dans les premiers tomes qui datent des années 80, cela reste malgré tout très fidèle et fort agréable à regarder.

Der nächste Band im 2. Zyklus: Jason Mac Lane alias XIII kämpft weiter gegen USAFE und die Mayflower-Veschwörung. Und gewinnt bruchstückhaft weitere Erinnerungen aus seiner Kindheit zurück.

Nun erfährt Jason auch endlich, wer die geheimnisvolle Anführerin der Foundation ist, die nach den Unterlagen fahndet, die Jasons Vorfahren über die Jahrhunderte hinweg sorgsam gehütet hatten. Um in ihre Nähe zu gelangen, tut Mac Lane so, als ob er sich der Mayflower-Verschwörung anschliessen wolle ...

So richtig in Schwung gekommen ist der 2. Zyklus leider immer noch nicht. Daher nur 4 von 5 Sternen ****

Estos últimos tomos están careciendo de ritmo, quizá porque la trama no da para tanto pero se necesita estirar para seguir publicando este arco...

Wie hoopte dat deze tweede cyclus een mooi afgerond einde krijgt: helaas pindakaas. Erger nog, deze strip springt niet over één haai maar over een hele school (of kudde of whatever een groep haaien genoemd wordt) tegelijk en breit er een verhaal bij dat zo belachelijk is dat ik hier en nu zweer te stoppen met XIII.

Want hiervan is niks meer te maken, tenzij dat de volgende scenarist besluit deze hele verhaallijn in de vuilbak te smijten en te pretenderen alsof het een droom was.

Een roemloos einde van een ooit toonaangevende strip.
