From Jeffrey Shootingstars to Woodynymph and Piper's Bellflowers, hikers will have fun matching their wildflower finds with their names . This compact field guide features 92 flowers commonly seen in the Cascade and Olympic Mountains. Flowers are grouped by color and general location with the Latin and common names given. Information on flowering season, features , habitat, and distribution is given in the distinctive voice of Harvey Manning, author of many of The Mountaineers Books' popular hiking guides. Detailed, enchanting color photographs by Bob and Ira Spring make wildflower identification a breeze. Includes tips for photographing wildflowers.
Harvey Manning was a noted author of hiking guides and climbing textbooks, and a tireless hiking advocate. Manning lived on Cougar Mountain, within the city limits of Bellevue, Washington, calling his home the "200 meter hut". His book Walking the Beach to Bellingham is an autobiography and manifesto fleshing out his journal of a hike along the shore of Puget Sound over a two year span.
This is a very concise and helpful guide to identifying some of the more commonly seen plants of the North Cascades National Park (where I used the guide). It is divided into two major sections: "Flowers of the Forest" and "Flowers of the Meadow." It is subdivided by flower color and the photographs (by Bob & Ira Spring) are excellent. This is a handy field guide, due to its small size, as well as a good home reference to augment more general floral guides.
Handy little book to take along on hikes so you can identify flowers along the way. We get a lot of use out of this because it's small and fits in your pocket.
