A decodable text suitable for Reception children. Offers lots of opportunities for children to practice their Phonics and improve their word recognition through the repeated phrases. A nice and simple story with a good message of helping others and being nice to them.

Written from the point of view of the little red hen's grandchild. Good book and familiar story. Links well to the little red hen

The Little Red Hen was a childhood favorite. I always read this to balance the righteousness of the red hen. The Little Yellow Chick is planning a party and again the friends do not want to help. After he spends all the time doing all the work without help, he phones his grandmother the little ren hen who recommends that those friend not be invited, but the little yellow chick decides to be kind and invite them anyway. All the friends love the party and remorsefully tell the little yellow chick they will clean while he rests.

Title: The Little Yellow Chicken
Author:Joy Cowley
Genre: Children Picture book
Type: Fiction

Humour and illustrations aside, this story has the perfect moral for really young kids. Although simple, Joy Cowley uses her ability to relate to young children by delivering a message at the end where the Little Yellow Chicken earns the respect it deserves from it's selfish friends who realise they have been rather inconsiderate by ignoring the Little Yellow Chickens plea for help in setting up a dinner party. Simple literature yet effective rhyming which gives the story a nice tune.

This story is about a chicken who is planning a party and wants help from his unwilling friends. When the party begins, he isn't for sure if he wants to invite them in. In the end, they have a good time and the friends offer to plan the next party.
