For as long as she can remember, God and his teachings have enveloped every part of Megan Davidson’s life, leading her to commit herself to the church as a Catholic sister. But lately, thoughts she’s suppressed for years are consuming her. Her faith is tested when dreams of a woman she’s attracted to begin to haunt her. She’d never felt lonely before. She had God; she had her social work at St. Joseph’s Hospital, and her prayer. But now? The more Megan tries to reject the impure thoughts, the emptier her life feels.

Investment banker Emily Masters has always been confident and comfortable with her life and choices, even if her own family has rejected her because of her sexuality. When a possessive ex-girlfriend’s actions land her in the hospital an instant attraction ignites between Emily and the lovely social worker. But the discovery that Megan is a Catholic sister crushes any hope of a future together.

Megan’s secret longings may be considered sinful, but is it more sinful to deny the truth about herself? If she chooses to explore her feelings, she could lose everything: her job, her church, her reputation. When she and Emily are offered a second chance, will they each take a leap of faith to explore a new love together?

I read ‘Love Out of Order’ because it was completely out of the realm of anything I had picked-up before. A sister questioning her vows due to her attraction to women? Yeah, no, I haven’t read that before. I actually expected this to be more serious than it was, but no biggie for me; I don't need a serious read to enjoy it.

Megan has been a Catholic sister for 10 years. She has also been questioning her sexuality for quite a while. One day after going to confess her sinful dreams of a woman she wants to touch and love, Megan goes to work and finds that one of her patients (she’s a social worker at a hospital) is the ‘woman of her dreams,’ quite literally.

Emily wakes up in the hospital from a car accident unsure of who she is exactly. She remembers her first name and some basic facts, like who her parents are and she has memories of her ex, but the last 12 years or so are a blank. Why is she in San Francisco, what does she do for a living, why aren’t her parents at her bedside? When Megan walks in to her hospital room to advise her on her next steps towards recovery, there is an immediate attraction.

While ‘Love Out of Order’ wasn’t great, it shows some potential. I think I would normally rate this around a 2, but because of the lack of major grammatical errors and because this is a first time, self-published author, I'm tipping this towards 3*. Does it align with my typical 3* rating? I’ll be honest and say no, but I believe in potential and I think the author obviously has unique stories in her head and has a good grasp on grammar.

My main concerns were such:

-More time was needed to establish a connection between the MCs that felt genuine. Megan and Emily meet and they basically start thinking in their heads from a long term perspective. One of them almost immediately makes a decision that will greatly impact her life. Because of contrived (hello, miscommunication) circumstances, she doesn’t follow through with those decisions right away, but it still felt too early to be even thinking in such foolhardy terms. Megan and Emily don’t have any terribly deep conversations or spend much time getting to know one another before we’re supposed to believe in their connection. I don’t even think they interacted enough by the end to make a believable connection and by that point, they’re using the word ‘love.’

-Because Emily is suffering from some sort of amnesia, I would have expected it to take more than a discussion with her ex, Sam, to recharge her memory. What do I know, though? I’ve never had amnesia, thankfully. That still just felt like it was resolved way too easily. This part of the storyline could have been completely erased and I don’t think it would have hurt anything. Emily was in the hospital for genuine reasons, so throwing temporary amnesia in the mix wasn’t necessary.

-Side-characters were used to move the storyline along and they felt kind of gimmicky. Rather than Emily or Megan doing the work together to get to the relationship-stage, side characters were devices used to make it happen. I can't get any further into that without spoilers, so I won't.

-The ending is wrapped up way too nicely. Emily has certain struggles with her family life, but some members responsible have a complete personality transplant in the epilogue. We’re given an HEA that isn’t realistic.

This story is FTB, but the author does leave a link for the smut at the end, so if you’re interested in that you can always go there to read it. Anyone who’s ever read my reviews knows that I went there and I read it. Because of the lack of connection, it didn’t work for me. Megan is a virgin who's never so much as had an orgasm, so … I’m sorry, even the first kiss would probably be a little awkward instead of amazing, but we're also supposed to believe that she gave Emily 5 orgasms (maybe Emily faked it?). I think as a personal preference, I just prefer my romances to have a bit more realism to them. If you enjoy happy, happy, joy, joy and believe in love at first sight without much communication between MCs, then you may enjoy this more than I did. That said, I will give this author another go because I’ve read plenty more first releases that were more cringe-worthy that were written by authors I adore (Lentzski being the one that sticks out most prominently in my head).

I was delaying reading this because I wasn’t sure I wanted to read about nuns. But it’s not really about nuns, it’s about a Catholic Sister (I had no idea there was a difference) who at some point realizes she wants more out of life. There’s no crisis of faith but her journey is interesting. The book is more a novella than a novel and the ending feels rushed, which is really too bad as I was ready to follow her longer on this journey.

Rather good. I'm not religious, don't hold that against me, the front cover of the book actually appealed more to me then the story. But I am glad I read it... it is rather a short read. I was expecting seriousness, but they were some witty moments in the book. The characters work, both seem to have that spark between them which gives you some form of chemistry. You also have the dreaded bitch of a ex in the story line... Oh, and arsehole parents.
I would love to see a sequel happen. This is a first Ellie Spark book I've read.. Will read some more of her work.

Enjoy.

4 Stars.
This book is really closer to novella length than novel. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this debut book. But to be honest, I fell in love with the cover first and had to read it. However, IMO the women on the cover do not necessarily "look" like the women in the book. I wonder if the author is the artist?

LOL. As I'm thinking about what to write, I finally "got" the title. Duh.

This is a story of Emily Masters. She recently broke up with her girlfriend, with whom she has a confrontation with her ex's friends at a bar. Emily, drunk, steals her ex's car and crashes it, ending up in the hospital where she meets the lovely Megan, the hospital's social worker.

Megan is a Roman Catholic Sister. Not raised Catholic I didn't realize the difference between a Nun who is cloistered and a Sister who does service out in the world. As I understand it, all Nun's are called Sisters, but not all Sisters are Nuns. Megan, through her church, is a hospital social worker. She helps patients understand the doctor jargon while also lending comfort and support. After 10 yrs, Megan is has been feeling conflicted about remaining a Sister. She has been dreaming of a fantasy woman who turns out to resemble Emily.

I liked the journey that Megan takes as she tries to decide what to do - ignore or act on her feelings for another woman (Emily) or stay with the church and job that she loves. She is helped by her roommate, Natalie also a Sister, although her middle-grade students nicknamed her "Miss Hot Nun". Despite being the Hot Nun, Natalie is fully committed to her vocation but urges Megan to explore her options. She knew that Megan was contemplating leaving before she met Emily.

FYI: If you are looking for hot sex scenes involving a "nun", this book will disappoint. It is all FTB. In this instance it worked fine for me.

I'm looking forward to the author's next book, Love on the Run Ellie Spark Love On the Run by Ellie Spark .

A perfectly formed, if short, little book that was both charming and engaging. The perfect light read - finished it quickly and with a satisfaction that is rare. Thank you.

2.25 * perhaps.

I was intrigued by the blurb and I liked the cover a lot. But... This book presents a bit of a dilemma for me. It is flawed, mostly info-dumping, insta-love, no chemistry between the characters, some glaring inconsistencies and a general sense of disbelief.
Sex is fade to black (YES!) but unrelatable even then. 5 orgasms is it?

Yet. There is so much story in this, so much that could have been done. Under normal circumstances, I would have DNF'd this, but I still read on. There is an awesome story here, it just needs bringing out.

it was a fun read. There were many cliche dialogues and miscommunications but the characters had chemistry and honestly that's the most important thing to me. It was certainly a lot better than i expected.

A good read!

An enjoyable read. Very well written. The author did a great job with character description, plot, and dialogue. This book reminds us that sexuality is not always the reason for family separation. I found it endearing how Megan was able to embrace her sexuality without losing her faith or spirituality.

In the first two chapters there’s a nun with impure thoughts and a girl whose ex-gfs friends beat her up. I stopped reading after that. Life’s too short.

Enchanting hearts can happen when least expected.

Megan has a deep love for God and the Sisters who have been her family since she was 18. Her heart has a yearning for a different kind of love. Emily has been on her own from the age of 17 when her folks said your lifestyle offends us you can't live here.
The event that brings them together wakes them up in such a beautiful way. I love how they both decide what they need and them life throws them together again. I so enjoyed the serendipity moments that kept them in touch. This is a delightful, fun and thoughtful read. I would recommend much.

Catholic Sister acknowledges her love for a woman

I have yet to read a book from a Catholic perspective such as being a Sister, leaving her rituals to accept being in love with a woman. Megan and Emily have excellent chemistry and patience. Megan goes from being a Sister to everyday life and Emily unknown to her has the patience to wait for her. This is a fun novel that I enjoyed by Ellie Spark.

I’m a huge fan of the Love... series by Ellie Sparks - her charcters are well developed and multi faceted. The story is light and easy to read and is a typical feel good story with a bit of drama and romance and friendship. I would highly recommend to read this story and to read all the other ones from this series, which are all standalone stories.

Highly Recommend!!

Love Out Of Order was the first book I have read By Ellie Spark. I was captivated from the start, and finished the book way to quickly for my liking.

Love Out Of Order, tackles issues of religious beliefs vs being true to who you are, coming out, homophobia but most importantly true identity and love. So far I haven't come across books, which has done this before. So from the get go, i was curious to how the book would play out. What i loved about the book was Megan's inner struggle, and the way in which the author captivated and conveyed these. The story was believable, the connection between all the characters felt real, and was often funny at times, especially between Megan and her flatmate. The whole concept of the story worked well, and I'm hoping that a sequel to Love Out Of Order is in the works.

Megan has been devoted to God for as long as she can remember, which led to her becoming a Catholic sister. Megan has always ignored her desires and inpure thoughts of a woman she has been fantasizing about, and trusted in her faith, God and her prayers to see her through. Which of course changes the minute she crosses path with Emily, who is a patient at the hospital that Megan works as a social worker. There is an immediate attraction between the two, but Megan has devoted her life to God and her work and can't risk exploring her sexuality or thoughts while still being a practicing sister. With Emily's ex girlfriend still on the scene, her confusion, and her devotion to God, will Emily fight through this to find peace and happiness within herself and her faith?

Too short!

Megan is a Catholic sister working in a hospital as a social worker. She meets investment banker, Emily, when she is brought in from a car accident. Emily has suffered a broken leg and memory loss so Megan tries to help her fill in the missing pieces.

When Emily came out to her parents at the age of seventeen, she was immediately sent packing and has been without family ever since. Megan is a true believer in God, but has been grappling with leaving the sisterhood for some time now. Both women have an amazing impact on each other.

I did learn the difference between a sister and a nun. I was totally captivated by this storyline and wished it were a full length novel where both characters could have been developed more. There had to be so much emotion involved in Megan leaving her order that we didn't get to experience. Maybe it's just too difficult to write. Overall, it's a wonderful, well written story - just too short for me!

Love Out Of Order — Ellie Spark (11 chapters + 3 Months Later) January 28, 2020

This story does involve religion and faith, but is well written enough that it did not bother me.

I have read the other book in this “series” and have found them all delightful, so when I saw this book recommended for me in Kindle Unlimited, I knew I had to read it.

Megan is a sister of the catholic faith, who works as a social worker in a hospital, who is starting to question her sexual needs. Emily is a patient who stole the car of her ex-girlfriend and totaled it in an accident. When the two of them meet in the hospital, an attraction neither were expecting happens. As their relationship starts to bloom, Emily ex-girlfriend re-enters the picture throwing everything into chaos.

A decent book that was a quick read. Enjoyable.

Three stars.

I read this book for free on kindle unlimited and overall it was sweet! The dialogue felt a bit unnatural and some of the prose was clumsy but the characters were likeable! While the story was fun, it lacked the time and development I felt it needed to have true depth or substance. When Megan and Emily meet they have an immediate attraction to each other but I felt like the process of getting to know each other and falling in love was a bit glossed over. I think I would have been more invested in their romance if more time had been spent exploring their dynamic and developing their relationship. But, considering the book took three hours to read at most, all in all I'm satisfied. If you're looking for something quick to read in an afternoon, give it a shot.

This was pretty cute, fun, and short. It's done with some humor juxtaposed with occasional squishy emotion that definitely caught me off-guard a few times. All together, this was like a sweet mini-meringue... It might not be substantial enough to completely fill your tummy, but might make you smile for a while. Probably suitable for the PG-13 (and up) crowd as well; no explicit you-know-what, and it has a nice message. It's an indie pub, writing is OK, and copy-editing is pretty good, but it could use a few more commas. I got this free via Amazon deal in November.

A love story

Just as Emily's life was changing and she had a traumatic accident, Megan was in the midst of rethinking her life choices and been driven mad over a heated dream.

Both ladies being at turning points in their lives are brought together and we see attempts at connecting and jealousy ex attempting to keep them apart. However fate intervenes and bring them together while healing family matters for Emily.

From the first page I was engrossed in this story, it pulled me along and I couldn’t drag myself away til I finished. I empathised with the internal struggles faced by the characters, especially Megan, and really enjoyed how it all played out. Great secondary characters too, particularly Natalie who brought so much humor to the story. Can’t wait to read more by this author!

Loved it

Loved the characters - they are easy to imagine, with the trials and tribulations that both characters are trying to work through ringing true to probably quite a few folks. Especially when dealing with life changing decisions about being happy in your own skin! This was a great little short read that leaves you smiling at the end!

This was a fun read, I liked the topic of balancing religion and orientation, and was glad that it showed that you can have both. I also thought the points of view of a religious person and atheist were both handled respectfully, I was glad it showed this is just one aspect of a person not the whole person. This was also just a cute romance with a HEA, which is always good!

Intriguing

New to this author , enjoyed the ups and downs and as always loved the rainbow at the end of the story! Have actually known women who had similar lifetime stories. The "soft" sex was much more to my liking verses the tell all down and dirty type. Going to order the Love Series and hope to enjoy each one as I have this one.

Megan and Emily are true opposites that attract each other. Emily's Megan's fantasy in the flesh. The confessional scene was a bit creepy and I was angered by the priest's demand for Megan's 'sin' details! Anyway, the story was well written without drawing out the angst of leaving 'the church' and Emily's ex-relationship and parents disowning their children.

Another triumph

This is the third story in the series I have read and definitely out of order but it's been wonderful to get to know the characters. The story Like the others is began with religion and acceptance of norms but love conquers in the end and the walls are broken down bringing two together as though fated to be.

Lo e the story. The attraction. The reason that the 2 met. All was natural. The story.from there could have been a bit more indept. But it is enjoyable. I did learn that there is a difference between nun and sister. Not much on the heat factor which surprised me as most books I have read tend to use this. Planning on reading the entire series.
