Three full-length novels have been boxed up! Sexy, driven doctors, hospital personnel, and students come together to find their hearts and health in a series focused on a hospital in small-town Kansas.
ROOM FOR RECOVERY – BOOK 4
When Beau James is cornered by two bullies, he's rescued by none other than the broody Wade Ritter, who he's crushed on from afar. Despite their family connection, Wade has resisted all of Beau's attempts at friendship -- until now. His protective streak gives Beau an opportunity to get past Wade's prickly exterior. But Wade is carrying a heavy burden that makes it tough to open up. With Beau's help, he realizes there's room for recovery. If he can face hard truths about his sexuality and love himself, he might be able to love Beau too.
SURPRISE DELIVERY – BOOK 5
Dr. Casper Rollins knows how to have fun. The love of his life, Kage Myers, lived every moment to the fullest before he died. Now, Casper goes on adrenaline-soaked adventures when he wants to feel closer to his lost love. Dr. Eric Holtz is married to his work, so much so his last partner left him. When his niece arrives, pregnant and in need of an ally, he has family again. Then her obstetrician suggests breaking Eric of his workaholic tendencies, and a fun and sexy fling ensues. But it's not long before feelings are in the mix. If these two want a future, they'll have to embrace the lesson Kage taught Casper long ago: You only live once.
ORDERLY AFFAIR – BOOK 6
When Ian Connolly installs a hookup app to explore his long-suppressed attraction to men, he doesn't expect to connect with anyone he knows, especially not lab tech Callum Price. But from their first scorching encounter, he's hooked. Callum hasn't had the best luck with love, and he's suffocating under a pile of responsibilities. But when he sees an opportunity to blow off steam with Ian, he takes it. If Ian can be honest with his family about loving a man, maybe Callum can admit his own truth: He wants a man he can count on, a man just like Ian.
Each of these books was previously published individually as part of the Hearts and Health series. They can be read as standalones, but earlier characters do occasionally appear.
DJ Jamison writes a variety of queer men finding extraordinary love through M/M Romance! She is a lifelong reader and has always loved writing and editing, with a ten-year journalism career before she began publishing romance. She has books in ebook, print, and audio, as well as German, French, and Italian translations.
DJ lives in Kansas with her husband, two sons, and a sadistic cat named Birdie.
I read and reviewed each of these books when they were originally published. Below are excerpts from those reviews.
Room for Recovery: The story starts out with a gut-wrenching Prologue and then picks up four years later. The book's blurb tells about the story much better than I ever could. Wade must come to terms with his true self if he is to move on with his life.
My heart hurt for Beau so much throughout this book. He is bullied at school and he is confused when Wade offers to be his protector. While Beau has crushed on Wade since they met, Wade has always kept his distance from Beau and not even been friendly.
Wade has messed up in school and wasn't able to graduate with his class last year. Hanging around with Beau has helped Wade want to do better and Beau begins to tutor him in the two subjects he needs to pass in order to graduate. I also hurt for Wade but I'm not giving any details because that might spoil things.
Surprise Delivery: This book is sexy, hot, emotional, heart-wrenching and overall just a fantastic and satisfying story.
This book had me from page one when Olivia showed up on Eric's doorstep and he took her in. Learning his backstory with his family was heartbreaking but knowing that he didn't hold any grudges against his young niece let us see that he's a good man.
Casper's backstory is also heartbreaking but for different reasons. The death of his long-time boyfriend at a young age has shaped him into someone who says he'll never find another love like that again.
If a book engages my emotions (makes me cry 😊) that's a sure sign that I loved it. Surprise Delivery hit me on many levels and I loved it.
Orderly Affair: Ian is divorced but still on friendly terms with his wife. He's only now coming to terms with being bi-sexual and is ready to explore his attraction to men. He's not out to anyone yet.
Callum is a lab tech at the hospital where Ian works. He has problems at home; he can't get rid of his ex-boyfriend who is still living in his house, and his mother won't acknowledge that he's gay even with the ex still living with them. His mother has health problems and she likes the dead-beat ex because he runs errands for her and keeps her company while Callum works.
At first, Callum is OK with Ian being in the closet because they're just having a fling after meeting via a hook-up app. But as their relationship begins to get more serious he knows that he can't go on unless Ian is willing to come out to his family and friends.
Ian has a teenage son, Liam, from his marriage, and he's really afraid of his reaction if he comes out to him. I liked the supporting characters in this book. Liam is a great character and his mother, Ian's ex, and her husband also add interest to the story.
This is a very good book with a great epilogue. DJ Jamison writes the best epilogues and this one gives us a peek at Ian and Callum three months down the road. It was also fun to revisit characters from previous stories in the series.
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
The first story is an intense coming out story for one character, and a less intense one for the other guy. Lots of angst and a sad story that ends well. The second story is about two men who loved and lost in very different ways but eventually find their happiness together. The third one is sweet with a little angst but a very happy ending. The stories all feel pretty realistic and involve characters that think so differently. I love how the author is able to get into different mindsets for such realistic character personalities where even though most characters are into men, they aren't all copies of each other.
This set of three of the books in the Hearts & Health series is packed full of romance. Each book works as a standalone, but the characters and storylines are loosely related. The stories and characters are engaging and we get a great mix of lighthearted along with some angst. While Eric and Casper's romance in Surprise Delivery is my favorite, all three tales keep the pages turning with steamy fun, love, and overcoming the obstacles in the way of what these terrific couples want and need.
