Maisy's First Words

Maisy's Day Out: A First Words Book:

Rate this book
We're keeping tabs on Maisy! Explore the many things in her world -- indoors and out -- with two tabbed board books that babies and toddlers will love.

What kinds of things does Maisy see when she goes outside? Turn to the tab with a soccer ball on it to find the park, with swings and a skateboard. The tab with a chicken on it takes you to Maisy's favorite farm, with a horse, a sheep, and more. There's so much to explore on the beach and in the sea, on sunny days and rainy ones, on trains and in fire engines and all sorts of things that go. Naming everyday things is always more fun with Maisy leading the way!

Spanish Edition--- Book shows pictures with the Spanish word next to it. Played reading and guessing game for what is what. Simple book. Good for Spanish words. Typical Maisy drawings which I'm not a big fan of but the kids liked it.

This is a lovely board book which is just perfect for teaching youngsters all sorts of different first words. ‘Maisy’s Day Out’ is a lovely board book with rounded edges which is just perfect for little hands to hold and touch as it won’t hurt them, and each page is glossy and very colourful. There are pictures on every page along with the various words for each little image and each double page is a section with different words on it and a different day out for Maisy.

The sections all have their own tab and image at the top and side of the book so it’s easy to find the section you want to show kids. Each section has lots of different things pictured and the words clearly displayed next to them so kids can have fun learning these new words. There are sections such as in the park, things that move and even a section of the things you’d get at a birthday party! Every section has a decent amount of items and I love how there are more creative things pictured with their word such as in things that move you have a pushchair.

There’s something I love about Lucy Cousisn’s illustrations, they are always so colourful and bold with that thick outer black line which makes the images all stand out more. I love the way Maisy and her friends look throughout the pages too. Having it be a book featuring Maisy and friends, rather than just a random book of first words, makes this all the more fun as children can try to spot Maisy and friends throughout the pages.

The smaller size of this book along with it’s bold and colourful pages and the broad range of first words to learn just makes this book so appealing to me and I’m sure many others. Although some reviews I’ve read question the use of some words, like birthday cake or hay bales and things like that as not being typical words to use in a first words book, I do think a book with more variety is still very fun. Children will learn these words anyway, throughout life and play and there are plenty of ‘traditional’ first words in here too. Overall this is a lovely book and if you like the style of the images then I’d definitely get this as a first words book, afterall I think it’s important to find a book that kids will engage in and this colourful one certainly feels like something many young kids will enjoy looking at.

Part of the new First Words Book series featuring Cousins’ iconic Maisy character, Maisy’s Day Out depicts a variety of places, animals, and activities that one might encounter on a special trip (the beach or the farm) or at home (the garden or a birthday party). The sturdy board pages all feature tabs, running along the outer edges of the book, each with a single illustration indicating the theme of that spread. Each spread shows the location or theme in one large illustration on the left side, with a variety of related objects and animals on the right, all labeled with the appropriate word. The illustrations are done in Cousins’ signature colorful cartoon style. Great for building young children’s vocabularies and for having discussions about everyday life, this Maisy book is one that young readers ages 0-4 will want to return to again and again.

These mini board books cover every aspect of Maisy’s life. Like a search and find puzzle little ones will be able to identify the items on each page. These first words books will be read over and over as toddlers begin to discover their vocabulary.

I absolutely love the illustrations in this first word book. There are tons of items to explore and lots of different landscapes to keep your littles engaged. I am sure this will soon be a classic in most board book collections. What a perfect gift for a new mom or dad!

Mostly east to identify first words: some illustrations were confusing. Very busy pages.
