Enter the mind of a villain bent on the destruction of the human race.

In the days before the Long Sleep, Sura counsels war against Humankind as a matter of draconic survival.

But Graayyya, a garnet wyrm raised by metallics, thwarts him at every turn.

When the human kings demand too much of the dragons, Sura finds an unexpected ally that brings him one step closer to victory.

But with the Council of Elders against him, time is running out. Where will he find the support he needs to take control of the council and bring war to Humankind?

Kevin Potter is an award-winning fantasy author who enjoys spending time masquerading as dragons larger than some cities. He’s fond of discussing the origination of his fantasy series, which was the result of taking seriously the adage, “If you can’t find what you want to read, write it.”

Although somewhat of a recluse, he actually loves interacting with readers on any platform they happen to frequent, though of late he mostly avoids traditional social media in favor of the reader/writer-centric Substack.

Speaking of which, you can get free stories, samples, and be the first to know what he’s working on by subscribing to his Substack at http://dragonauthor.substack.com

This is a short read and I like that it's set in an alternate, past Britain. We see that dragons, called after metals, are plentiful and are annoyed by skirmishes with humans and lizards. Some of them band together to approach a Celtic king and ask for peace treaty but the king isn't interested in closer ties. Dragons are tough to relate to but we can connect with the main character on some level at least.

I'd have liked this better if we got an explanation of what dragons eat - they like black ooze below them not grass - and why as apex predators they haven't killed off all the prey. Maybe they have and that's why some of them choose to sleep. That wasn't properly explained (for me at least). The author clearly knows what he is writing about and where it is all going, but as a newcomer to the series I don't. However the prequel would interest me in reading more - but not if it's going to be cliffhanger instalment books, which I don't know.

It was great reading about the dragons before their big sleep as this filled in a bit of how and why they took this decision. I think this book is a must read for all readers who are following the series. Sura always bent on destruction and war was adamant on wanting to rid the world of the human race, he felt they at least should have been enslaved by the mighty dragons. However he was foiled from doing so by Grayya, a female who did not believe in war. Sura needed an ally to go against the councils decision as he had no intention of sleeping the big sleep but could he thwart them and if so whose help could he get? It turned out to be a great surprise even to him who his ally was and he still could not fathom why this wyrm would decide to allay himself with him and go against the council. As usual lovers of dragons will love this short novel and in fact that is my only complaint, it was too short and stopped rather abruptly for my liking but otherwise the dragons as usual are their majestic selves even if some are full of backstabbing plots to gain power!!

This book explains why the dragons took the long sleep. If you plan to read this series, read it in time order.

Boring, couldn't care less for Vordillainsura and Grayyyavallia. IDK how Americans became so obsessed with culturally appropriating dragons, but this needs to stop. Could barely drag myself to finish this read. (60 pages in 9 days...) I unsubscribed from the NL and will never pick up anything by this author again.
