This is a good addition to the SEAL of Protection series, but I have to admit that I don't remember Cooper being in any of the other books. Maybe it's just my bad memory, though, because it has been some time since I read the other books. I had to assume that he was from a different SEAL team under Commander Hurt, since I didn't remember him.
This is a novella, so it doesn't have time for quite as much character development as I usually like -- but it does have enough to like the couple and want them to find their HEA. Cooper and Keira are both likable, and I liked that she was able to help him adapt to his new hearing disability.
I did think that their instalove was a bit unlikely, but appreciated that they didn't have sex until they both knew their relationship would last. That is definitely not typical in most romances these days, and I liked it. So many of today's romances are more about lust than love, so that was a nice change.
Since Cooper is retired as a SEAL (due to his injury), this book does not have as much danger/rescue as the others in the series. But that was OK, since it fit what was happening in his new retired life. I did like that the story included Tex and some of the characters from the earlier books.
This book does a good job of describing how difficult it is for a wounded warrior to have to give up his planned military career. For many soldiers, their entire lives are planned around being a soldier -- so adjusting to a disability and civilian life is very difficult.
I read the other books in this series some time ago, so I had a little trouble remembering all the characters -- but that is my fault for waiting so long to read this book. I'm now looking forward to reading the last book that is available for this series, and will probably read the Delta Force series, too.
My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
