A Halloween tradition, a ghost with amnesia, and a friend in crisis, collide in this haunting small town paranormal mystery set on the picturesque Oregon Coast.
Amanda and the gang stumble upon a ghost who can't seem to remember who she was in life or where she left her body. Unable to move on until these critical questions are answered, the gang slide into sleuth mode to help the confused specter. When a second girl turns up dead and a third goes missing, Amanda realizes the stakes are much higher than she first thought.
Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

“Missing by the Sea” earns 5/5 Ghostly Apparitions…Entertaining Fun!
The brisk hike through the woods with friends and a couple of “fur” buddies leads to one “buddy” finding a bloody shoe, and Amanda? She has a niggling feeling, sees movement in the trees, and…“Is someone there?” She finds the apparition of a young woman with no memory of who she is or how she came to be…another ghost in need. A more purposeful search unfortunately uncovers a blood trail and a shallow grave. Again a favorite series with just the right amount of the paranormal. Not juvenile…no hocus-pocus. It all works well and is very engaging. But the past rears its head… Amanda receives a cryptic message with a photo that brings back issues that over a decade ago put her in witness protection. The story may be set in October with the changing of seasons, harvesting of pumpkins, and prepping for Halloween activities, but Kathi Daley’s focus is on the mystery, the characters, and their interactions making “Missing by the Sea” perfect at anytime of the year. Although her characters were teens developed through the seven-book Seacliff High series, they continue to grow and act/react in entertaining adult ways. I am a fan of the first-person narrative which Kathi writes very well. Readers, like myself, can put themselves in the story with an engaging “I” perspective that shares Amanda’s inner thoughts, descriptions, and emotions. Animal lovers, too, can enjoy how the “fur” friends are part of the family. And relationships, friends, and family are always at the center. Entertaining! Engaging! Clever!

Review:
The characters are well rounded and well developed. I love spending time with Amanda and her friends (and her inner self Alyson). They all get along well and they are very good at solving mysteries. Amanda is such a caring person and you can tell that she really wants to help the ghosts that appear to her and she feels deeply saddened. I love the paranormal aspect to this series.
The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and she pulls you right into the story from the start and drags the reader along on a great journey. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The mystery is well plotted and had enough clues to sift through and was not easily solved.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy. Grab a copy of this book and enjoy yourself.
Missing by the Sea is the third book in Kathi Daley’s Haunting by the Sea series. This series picks up ten years after the last book in Ms. Daley’s awesome Seacliff High series, but it isn’t necessary to have read the previous series before starting this one because sufficient character background is provided. This well-plotted mystery is intriguing and the affable characters are well developed. This is a clean cozy mystery with paranormal activity.
Amanda Parker has returned Oregon after living in New York for ten years. Amanda, who was known as Alyson Prescott and her mother, Estelle, first moved to the small seaside community while in the Witness Protection Program. Amanda is a freelance graphic artist and photographer and has the ability to see and hear ghosts. She doesn’t know why she has this gift, but most of the time is glad she’s has the ability help ghosts trapped in this world to move on. Estelle is a talented artist and is still living in New York, but visits as often as she can. One of her best friends, Mackenzie “Mac” Reynolds, has moved in with Amanda and started her own company and her other best friend, Trevor Johnson, is happy to have his two best friends living in Cutter’s Cove again. Amanda, Mac, and Trevor help Officer Woody Baker solve murders. Amanda receives a disturbing message and contacts her handler Witness Protection Program, Donovan, who’s monitoring the situation.
While enjoying a walk with her two friends and two dogs, Sunny, the golden retriever she found on the side of the road and adopted, wanders off from the group and when Amanda finds her, she’s found a bloody tennis shoe and a lost and frightened ghost appears. The young spirit can’t remember her name, where her body is, or what happened to her. Amanda and Sunny find her body and call Woody. Before long, another spirit, who says her name is Josie, presents herself to Amanda and asks for help. Amanda and her friends move into their sleuthing mode to help the ghosts find out who hurt them so they can cross over. Alyson, who appeared to Amanda as an apparition when she first came back to Cutter’s Cove, is now one with Amanda, but has the ability to show up when Amanda needs help, as is the case with these two ghosts. Shadow, Amanda’s cat, can see Alyson and the ghosts who came into her life, and he helps calm these young women. Ty Matthews, Mac’s business partner and possible beau, helps them try to identify the girls.
I'm always amazed how much this author can pack into such a relatively short book. It made for a quick, enjoyable read. This is the first book I've read in this series and it was perfect for a Halloween read! This series is apparently an off-shoot from another, earlier series but any mentions to the past were adequately and succinctly explained, so I had no trouble following who was who and what was what.
Amanda makes for a compelling main character, having been in the witness protection program, the ability to see and speak to ghosts and good intentions that lead to questionable judgement (I smelled that TSTL moment well before it happened!) but likeable nonetheless. As for the plot, a serial killer is kidnapping and killing young women for sport and Amanda is there to speak to the ghosts of the victims and get information to nail the killer. I loved the fast pace that was able to create a vivid picture of the location, the action and the characters without bogging the story down with all the detail. In the end, I read it straight through in about an hour and a half because once it got going, I was along for the ride. I'll definitely be reading the other books in the series, I'm hooked!
Wonderful and interesting characters that grabbed me into the storyline completely. This is the best one in the series yet. Outstanding you don't want to miss this one.
It is close to Halloween and all the town is getting gussied up when Amanda and her friends run across a ghost who has amnesia. This makes for a very interesting Halloween book. I highly recommend it!
Life was good, Amanda was happy about deciding to stay in Cutter's Cove and having her two best friends Mac and Trevor back in her daily life and well things just couldn't be better. She was looking forward to this new step in her life and finally feeling settled. While out on a nature walk with her friends Amanda's dog brings her a shoe, the problem, it has blood all over it. Amanda is worried that someone is hurt or injured and immediately starts everyone out looking to help the owner of said shoe. When a ghost appears to her she realizes the owner of the shoe is dead but still wants to help her cross over. The ghost doesn't remember who she is much less what happened to her and doesn't want to leave without answers so the gang will have to look for answers the old fashioned way. When another body is found and another ghost appears she is able to give Amanda a few clues into how they ended up dead. They also learn that there is another girl but they don't know whether she is alive or if she too is dead like the others. Follow along as they search for answers in hopes of saving the last girl and bringing a killer to justice. Daley knows how to weave a wonderful mystery together that will have you looking for clues right along with the characters. This is such a great paranormal cozy mystery series, I always look forward to each new read.
Amanda finds a young girl's ghost while hiking, and agrees to help her find out what happened to her. Another ghost appears a few days later. Amanda, Mac & Trev are off on a mission to find their murderer before he strikes again. Throw into the mix a mysterious text with a photo of the mobsters that landed Amanda in witness protection. The friends, along with Amanda's "other half" (Alyson), work diligently to solve the mystery and send the ghosts on to the other side. A perfect cozy for Halloween. 👻🎃
I absolutely loved this latest book in the Haunting By The Sea series.
Amanda Parker has the odd ability to see and speak with ghosts, and as a result she frequently comes across bewildered spirits, some of whom don't even realized they are dead.
In Missing By The Sea, Amanda finds the recently murdered ghost of a teenage girl. In trying to help the girl find out who she was and what happened to her, Amanda and her pals unwittingly stumble into a nightmarish game of murder.
This is a really enjoyable book with plenty of suspense and a little dash of romance. I highly recommend it.
Missing by the Sea was a little darker than the previous books in this series as it involves a serial killer who has come to Cutter's Cove. Amanda, Trevor, Mac and Woody are on the case. There are very few clues to work with even with Amanda's gift. Also Amanda's past seems to have come back to haunt her which will continue into the next book.

I love this series and it just keeps getting better. Amanda can see ghosts and she also is able to help them cross over. Since moving back to Oregon she and her best friends Max and Trevor have helped Officer Woody solve murders. While in a hike, Amanda discovers the ghost of a young woman who doesn't seem to know who she is or how she was killed. Amanda searches for a finds the young woman's body. Once Woody and his officers arrive they find out that she was shot in the back. Amanda with her "other self" Allyson take the female ghost back to Amanda's house. The ghost seems to remember being called Missy so the girls, Trevor and Woody begin to try to find out who she is and what happened. Before they can find anything out on the young ghost, they discover another young female ghost who is able to take them to her body. Again Woody is called and the police discover that she has been killed with a bullet to the back too. Who is killing young girls in the woods of Oregon? Are there more girls out there? Will Amanda be able to help the ghosts pass over or will they be stuck in a time warp? This third book in the Haunting By The Sea series is exceptional. I love the characters especially their wonderful friendship and their standing by each other through thick and thin. I love the description of Oregon and all it's natural beauty. I love Halloween at which time this book is set. Finally I love the mystery involved in this book and the excellent and surprising conclusion. I highly recommend this book to all mystery lovers.
What started as a YA series has grown and graduated into more mature mysteries. Still clean and without graphic violence, this story reminds us of where Amanda came from. While it seems the danger of her past is behind her, there is always a shadow of doubt and worry.
While preparing for Halloween and carrying on setting up her new life back in Oregon with her two best friends, and furry sidekicks, Amanda, who has the ability to see and speak with ghosts, comes across a recently deceased spirit in the woods. In helping her discover who she is and what has happened to her, Amanda and friends uncover a larger, more dangerous, serial murder situation. Not intentionally trying to put herself in danger, Amanda can't turn her back on helping this spirit and possibly preventing another murder.
I love the friendships in Kathi Daley's series. This story focuses mainly on piecing together the little information they have while looking for other clues and related information. All while enjoying a favorite holiday with friends.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
While out enjoying a walk along a bluff going to a waterfall, Amanda and the gang stumble upon a ghost with amnesia and Amanda's dog, Sunny, brings them a bloody tennis shoe. They find the body of a young girl but it turns out that there's much more going on than first thought. Can Amanda and Alyson get through to the ghost and help her find her memories? And can they stop a killer on the loose?
This was an excellent read. I was hooked from start to end. I love the interaction between the characters. The book's well-written and it keeps you on your toes while reading. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order. For even better knowledge, read the Seacliff High series first.
Missing by the Sea is the third book in the Haunting by the Sea series. Amanda can see and hear ghosts. She ends up helping to solve the mystery of what happened to a young girl, and while investigating, becomes embroiled in a bigger mystery than she anticipated. This story hooked me from the start, and I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed it, and I definitely recommend it. You can't go wrong!
When Amanda dog finds a bloody tennis shoe this will lead her to a ghost with amnesia and a possible serial victim as another body is found afterwards. The gang will try to help her regain her memory and figure out who she is before there is another victim.
It is Halloween time and Cutter Cove is a haven for ghosts this season. Another exciting read in the series.
Wow. A murder, a ghost with amnesia, another ghost, another murder, an almost murder, old enemies from another time, three possible romances, and a serial killer? No boring book here!! Ms Daley has an excellent way of keeping you enthralled while still being logical and accurate. Really enjoying this series. Know you will too!
When Amanda finds the spirit of a recently murdered girl, who turns out to have amnesia, she tries to find out who the poor girl was...as well as how she died. Then, there are others before Amanda herself becomes a target. There is also a, possible, romance brewing. Only time will tell.
I enjoy this series but am constantly distracted by the fantasy weather described as the Oregon Coast. Sure, we have some nice days but the days of mist, wind and months of rain are totally missing. There is also no mention of the fact that with all the surfing these folks do they aren't in wetsuits as if the ocean is warm here. LOL
As I get to know the characters better, I can see them in my mind. This particular story was the best so far. The ending may have been too quick, but I was ready for it to be over. I'm enjoying the visualization of the writing and the clarity with which the story unfolds.
Amanda is a very brave young woman. She ended up in Washington state when she witnessed a murder in New York and she and her mother went into witness protection. They spent two years in this seaside mansion they bought and renovated. Her mother was from old money. Her parents divorced before WITSEC. Once things were settled, they returned to New York for ten years, and then Amanda went back because an old friend was murdered.
I love this new series by Kathi Daley and I can't wait to see what Amanda, (Alyson ) found out next if your like me and love a great cozy then anything by Kathi Daley is a must read
The gang has found multiple ghosts, but they have no memories of what led up to their deaths. The gang discovers that the deaths are due to a serial killer, and the hint is on to find the next victim before the killer does.
Amanda and the gang are again involved in another paranormal cozy mystery. I loved the storyline, the setting and the characters. I recommend this book for those who love cozy mysteries.
This was another winner. I just love this series and this author writes wonderful storylines and has a great cast of characters. I highly recommend all her books to everyone who loves cozy mysteries and ghosts. Diana Romano
I love that she took this series from teens to adults but the friends still are close and we are getting to know them again. Plus lots of mystery added to the mix. And maybe some romance lol
Another great story from this author. Definitely worth reading and getting to know the characters. Storylines are interesting and worth the time invested.
