This is very similar to the Land by Aleron Kong. Not quite enough for me to call this one a rip-off, especially since most LitRPGs stories are so similar to begin with, but it is very close. The similarities I would call this a poor man's version of the Land. The characters in this one aren't as developed and don't have as complex of personalities. The leveling system is kind of generic and the story isn't as good. It didn't feel as there was as much at stake in this one as compared to the Land. The main character is able to kill off a ton of other creatures fairly easy. I never felt he was in any real danger. There were also too many game dynamics that didn't really fit. Overall, only the die hard LitRPG fans will probably like this. I will continue the series but there isn't really anything remarkable about this book to talk about.

Replete with spelling errors, word errors (I wonder if it might have been dictated, there're several homophone errors), missing words and grammatical problems.

On top of this you have "two curved staircases that curve around the rounded walls of the room".

Had this been all, I might have managed to slog through, but the use of first person present tense is just a chore to read.

There are other issues, childish MC who enjoys his kidnapping, the romantic interest might be accurate for a kinder-garden love-story and the flow is just downright terrible.

Avoid unless you are growing desperate for LitRPG.

PS: The author seems to have splurged for some bought 5 stars, but not for an editor, good to know where the weight of investment is.

Fun read!

This was an enjoyable book, I liked how easy going the MC is and he isn’t that OP right from the beginning. I am really hoping that there will be some town building in the next own.

Excellent fun

This was a fun read. Not the deepest plot, but the characters, and story were fun and seemed to each have a spark. Look forward to where this may go.

First books a hit!

This is one of the better developed litRPG novels I have read. The storyline is believable and flows naturally. None of that, "that's not very likely" going on.

Wonderful tale told well.

It's always a pleasure to read a great story told well. So much of this genre forgets the story is the key.

Captivating

Exciting character development that leaves excited for the next twist to come. A book you can't put down and a valuable addition to LitRpg

Way better than expected

Once you get past the prologue the story takes off. The MC seems OP but he isn't. He just has the ability to become op. The book is awesome and I can't wait for the second one

Not bad but....

The book was a solid entry in the litrpg genre. The tale was fun to read and had a decent pace and feel to it. The writer is obviously a bit rough around the edges though. There are a lot of diction, syntax, spelling, and grammar erros that really add up and break the flow of the overall book. I dont care about the odd hiccup, we are talking dozens of glaring/bad errors for a published work.

I liked the story but there were some things I didn't like.

What I don't like are a little bit of cursing and that the story went a bit too much into the bedroom for my liking. Granted it could have been a lot worse but it could have been a lot better too.

A good story doesn't need nudity or French kissing to make it a better story. In fact I believe leaving out cursing and nudity make a better book. It requires more creativity to leave swearing and almost discriptive nudity and still get your point across. The author is definitely creative so I know he can do it.

Now the story was great. It was a easy read with great action. I also liked how Noble and awesome the main character is. The main character is a hero and a good guy. This my favorite type of book.

I am looking forward to the next book. I'm expecially looking forward to the next book if it stays out of the bedroom completely. You can get the point across that characters love each other without going in the bedroom at all.

The book is not bad, but it has some problems.
Chief among them is grammar and spelling. There are A Lot of grammatical mistake throughout. Also a lot of switching back and fourth between present and past tense where there shouldn't be.
There is so much of this that I had to deduct a full star for it.

The other star is lost due to the story being told in a too simplistic/rudimentary manner. It gets the point across but nothing more. Character development is pretty much non-existent.

With all this out of the way, the story still kept me interested about what will happen next and I read the book in full.
I'm considering reading the second one, and would have started on it already if it was Kindle unlimited, but since I have to purchase it I will have to spend some time reading reviews to see if the technical aspects of it have improved at all.

Fun LitRPG book with a MC that is not wanting to be an all powerful Warrior, which makes the story different than the typical trope. I am looking forward to the new village growth that hopefully will be in the next book. It's also nice to see a gradual progression from the MC and friends instead of the too good to be true explosion of talents from other books we won't mention. The world building is decent, characters are developed nicely and the interaction between characters are well thought out. But, this book desperately needed an editor. Bad spelling, grammar, doubled up descriptions in some sentences and choppy paragraphs. Luckily this didn't take away from the story too badly. Recommended and am starting book 2 now.

Nice but Needs More Editing

A nice story, and a good LitRPG offering, especially for a first book, and book one in a series. It’s marred with a lot of homophone errors and tense issues though. Not quite enough to pull you from the story, but enough to make you wince. Unquoted example:

He sits down at there table and she watched him eat the hearty fair. “This is grate!”, he says.

All of which are very simple to fix with one or two editing read-throughs. Overall I did enjoy it though, because the characters and the story were good, and that will always win me over. Enjoy.

Good beginning

A gamer is transported to a new world after completing a boss raid. He was chosen by the goddess of magic to represent and spread her influence. He gains party companions as he partakes in adventures and battles. The writing style is light-hearted, but good detail for world-building and characters. Good editing is strongly needed and encouraged, but does not unduly detract from the reading experience. Promising start, I look forward to the next book.

I loved this book!

The characters, plot, storytelling, mechanics, and adventures were very well done. The RPG aspects were just enough without being overwhelming, and the by play between characters was well rounded. If this author ever GMs a game I want in! Can't wait for the next one!!! Excelent world building.

Great Book!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, while there is the lvl/skill gain fluff it is not overwhelming. The editing is spot on and I couldn't spot any issues there. The story was engaging enough that I unfortunately finished the book in 2 days.

Thank you Mr. Whipple for taking the time and effort to write such a fantastic story! I greatly look forward to number 2 and 3 etc.

One of the better written stories

The author explains some of MC reasoning as things are happening and you can tell how smart the MC is. The supporting characters seem to really be a critical part of the story and it is great to see them grow also. I am really curious what kind of civilization/city building will go into future books and hopefully the MC grows in power.

This is a fun story.

I'm sure that other people will post a more critical review but I liked the story. I have always loved books about wizards and this story fits the bill perfectly.

This book starts out more RPG than lit. Halfway through it’s as if another writer took over and the prose is much more readable. I didn’t care for the first half as there was little actual story included. However the second half made up for it and left me wanting more.

Like most LIT RPG - it has some rough spots in the writing.
However, it's a good story and worth the read.
