When little Kristi goes fishing with her Dad, she gets swept over the side of the boat...and the stage is set for another hilarious Bod Munsch adventure!
Robert Munsch was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Fordham University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and from Boston University in 1971 with a Master of Arts degree in anthropology.
He studied to become a Jesuit priest, but decided he would rather work with children after jobs at orphanages and daycare centers. In 1973, he received a Master of Education in Child Studies from Tufts University. In 1975 he moved to Canada to work at the preschool at the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario. He also taught in the Department of Family Studies at the University of Guelph as a lecturer and as an assistant professor. In Guelph he was encouraged to publish the many stories he made up for the children he worked with.
Munsch's wife delivered two stillborn babies in 1979 and 1980. Out of the tragedy, he produced one of his best-known books, Love You Forever. This book was listed fourth on the 2001 Publishers Weekly All-Time Best selling Children's Books list for paperbacks at 6,970,000 copies (not including the 1,049,000 hardcover copies). The Munsches have since become adoptive parents of Julie, Andrew and Tyya (see them all in Something Good!)
Munsch has obsessive-compulsive disorder and has also suffered from manic depression. In August 2008, Munsch suffered a stroke that affected his ability to speak in normal sentences. He has recovered enough that he is able to perform live, but has put his writing career on hold until he is fully recovered.
Mike Boldt Edition. There are enough differences I will be making a different review for the orignal and revealing the changes made there. This book has charm this book has innocence. This book vastly improves on what the orignal story contained. Let's get into it.
Cover This cover is really charming. Granted in Munsch form it's a interior image. The background of this cover might be my least favorite part of the book but it does the job it's meant to do but then again the back cover has a unique illustration that fits the space beautifully.
Interior Story This story is just a ball of charm and cute. It's fun and playful. It has a good moral about doing things as a family and not taking everything too seriously. I love the touches that the father is quick to complement his daughter's skill of fishing. The bonding in the book is really enjoyable to read. I love how this ends and it becomes a family bonding moment where everyone goes fishing. Awww. Far better than the orignal.
Illustrations Starting right at the Title page. The colors, movement, the expressions and body language that supports it is outright brilliant and well thought through! I love how Kristi never ending ethusiam and is counter balanced with her father many expression. Even when taken seriously The illustrations are spot on and lighthearted. Each expression is PERFECT for the page. Even the mother reaching to throwing Kristi overboard is a playful revenge. There is a lot going on... Is that a viking, ninja, Elvis, Pilgrim, and a RCMP officer i see in the distance? Yes. Yes it is and it's awesome!
This book is creeping up to be one of my favorite Munsch illustrated books. It feels like a Robert Munsch book while holding on to the illustrators own identity.
I wouldn't mind seeing more books between these two.
What a cute little book! I love the illustrations, they really made me intrigued when I had first read the book, the detail on them is phenomenal! Also, I loved the story of how Kristy and her dad got into trouble in the water, then everything turned-out okay in the end. I loved how Kristy's mother reacted to her father afterwards, it really gave me a chuckle! Another classic by Robert Munsch that I am happy I had the chance to read!
A wonderful father and daughter adventure story. Hey Dads ! Pick this one up and start reading with your young ones. We need male role models who encourage a love of reading.
Shawn Steffler edition. Nothing against the artwork. The story is not particularly fun. Reading other reviews it sounds like the revised version has a better ending.
Shawn Steffler Edition Can we even consider this as a Robert Munsch book? Everything feels off. And it even feels like it's missing that infamous Munsch charm.
Cover The cover isn't bad. Believe it or not that it's an orignal illustration for a Munsch book. extra points!
Interior Story Man this story is mean spirited. The father is more like a jerk and isn't written properly for it to be considered fun or playful. Even Kristi has less enthusiasm for fishing.
Illustrations I'm not crazy about the illustrations. It does get me that the illustrations do support the more aggressive styled story. As in the mother's angry eyes as she threw the father in. It also doesn't seem to have that Robert Munsh charm to it.
Cross examine Interestingly enough the style of the family is the same. Mother and Kristi are brunette while Father and Son are blonde. Some of the differences I noticed was that originally in the book. The father just says, Get me another fish rather than let's get another to show off for mother. Kristi his a lot more hyper and joyful as if fishing is a game. Shockingly Kristi call for help after father tosses her overboard and his response is, "Get me a fist first." Also in the end where Boldt's has the family out fishing as a lesson of bonding, the orignal version has father returning the next day with a boat full of of fish.
A cute little girl named Kristi wants her father to take her fishing, and he's hesitant at first, but she promises that she will hold onto the boat and wear a life jacket, so he takes her on her first fishing adventure.
Strange, silly things happen on Kristi's first fishing adventure, and the ending is brilliant.
I think this book is hilarious, the illustrations are beautiful and make the story interesting to read, it's fun, it's different, and it made me smile from beginning to end.
Kristi and her father went fishing together in a boat. When Kristi got seasick because the wind made the waves rough she fell overboard. When her father tried to pull her back into the boat she had a very large fish. Her father realized that was a great way to catch fish! Funny story, surprise ending, great illustrations.
