In 2005 motorbike journalist Dan Walsh headed for South America with his 650 BMW to become a biking drifter, pilgrim, and latter-day heir to Ted Simon. His book documents the travels and travails of a bikeworld rebel.
Very casual reading of a brilliant set of adventures around the world. It seems there really is an Irish bar in every city in the world! Read it adventure fans! This guy feels more relatable to your average city guy than some of the other adventure travel books. Good stuff
Entertaining adventure, although another Ted Simon he ain't. I was expecting it to be in the same vein as 'Jupiter's Travels' but somehow it lacked the same charm. Well worth reading if you are or were a biker.
Love travel? Read it, it will hold up a mirror to your hobby which will make you travel "furthur"... Hate travel? Read this, it will tell you why you are both right and wrong and yet why your ass is for getting off of.
13,000 miles on three packs of fags, a bottle of warm coke and some biscuits? If Dan Walsh did not exist for real, it would be necessary to fictionalise the vagabond.
Alone on a bike through Africa and the Americas, without sponsorship or any mechanical skills apparently- it took more guts than Ewan and Charlie's trips (no backup crew- cameraman falling off bikes or major sponsors coming to the party.) He shows us that the ordinary man can also dream and do.
