Leaving her sister's home in Minnesota, Holly Whittaker is dazzled by her job in the Bahamas, her new found independence, and the attentions of her boss's handsome, but disreputable son
My Review (spoiler alert!)—This book read fast, which was how I finished it in the span of only a few hours. It read fast because it was such a page-turner; I kept wanting to find out “what happens next?”
I found this authoress in a search for Christian romances—at least, I think so. Having read it, I’m not at all sure—if she’s a Christian, the story wasn’t overtly (at all) “Christian,” though there was a strain of decency and morality (in that, though highly attracted to the hero, Holly Whittaker wouldn’t sleep with him), there was no mention of God or Jesus or even church, for that matter. So I could’ve come across her name at a different time, different search, but, for whatever reason, I associate it with that particular one.
Anyhow, it was good. A straight romance: Girl meets boy, they fail to hit it off and develop a love-hate, which, of course, because of the passion and fire in their fierce dislike, which stimulates the unquestionable attraction/chemistry between them—they eventually fall for each other. The problem being, of course, each has ties to another. Holly has ties to Rob Lindquist, and Luke Lindquist (Rob’s uncle, older by about ten years) has ties to Paige Bennett. Of course, Rob and Holly are newly acquainted and Luke and Paige on-again-off-again lovers, so Holly misunderstands Luke (and he does all in his power to aid that misunderstanding and complicate things) and he her. The page-turning drama is in the development of their love affair and then, after a powerful “moment of truth,” the drama continues in how, now estranged (with Luke even engaged to Paige!), they get back together.
It’s a worthy read for anyone who enjoys a good tried-and-true Romance formula. You won’t be disappointed.
