Rate this book
Mortals aren't meant to fight gods, but this mortal doesn't have a choice.

Charlie Naylor used to have a simple life where he worked in an office and spent his free time with his dog, Apollo. When a god sends him to another planet, Charlie has to survive in a world he could never have comprehended, and battle monsters he didn't know existed. He has to use magic,to wield blades, and to tame fantastic and monstrous beasts.

Caught in the games of the gods, Charlie will have to help his new friends - a half-gnome, a giant rat, and a mage - while dealing with the god of dragons, who is going insane. If that weren't dangerous enough, he has made an enemy of a seductive intergalactic space pirate and her crew.

Will Charlie be able to face up to a powerful and demented god and his army of dragons?

I should have given more, but I was hurt, why you ask?
Well, you cannot write MC as useless as a level one noob in PUBG game, until the end!
That is freaking hurtful.
I don't care about this not following LitRPG, but MC was literally useless until the end, what the heck author was thinking?

2.5 Pathetic stars, I will read the next one, but if the MC is useless again in that, then that will be my last book in this series.

Gone is the everyman from the first book replaced by what feels to be a powerless child puppet in a grown mans body for the majority of the book he appears to be suffering from a case of performance anxiety for the most part. While we do get to see a return of the everyman for the last chapter or so of the book it was a long road to get there even the supporting characters from the first book don't play much of a role in this and it feels like all of the characters kind of just get dragged along for the ride. We didn't get the world building I was hoping for but again the book ends with hints and promises of more world building and the book has even lost it's LitRPG element entirely with no more levels or stat sheets. It's saving grace is that the book is still written in the format of classic fiction of the early to mid 1900s which works nicely with the environment, characters and story overall. The narrator J. Scott Bennett does the same great job he did with the first book increasing the books already family friendly feel with his performance the kind that makes the reader feel like they are sitting in a public library listening or similar venue listening to a story teller. Honestly I really wanted to like this book but it just wasn't for me however I think it would be a great book to share with a younger audience especially as a bed time story or something along those lines as I can easily picture a younger person becoming enthralled in the adventure of it with a "What happens next?" kind of awe and the change from the everyman main character of the first book to what he is in this book makes that character even more relatable to a younger audience.

Review – Blademage Dragontamer by Deck Davis

Disclaimer I as given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review

The second book in the blademage series and while the story itself was fine and quite entertaining the audiobook was one of the worst I have heard in a while. I usually don’t have to play an audiobook at 2X the speed but with this one I had to up the speed as the narrator was so slow and off putting. The pronunciations were very weird.

The book takes place on another planet where the main character Charlie (who is from earth) is given a gift from a bored god of corn to became a blademage (magic user who also specialised in blade magic) and a beast tamer. The story itself is a nice little LitRPG/progression fantasy where Charlie levels up depending on how much experience he gains from killing beasts etc. The story follows the Charlie, the god of corn, a half gnome, a mage and a rat creature on their adventures trying to remain free from a series of Demi-gods who are hunting them down with the help of a space pirate. They end up on a planet of dragons with a half mad god of dragons following a bit of help from a metallic pirate Demi-god helps them out. The book itself is quite interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed it but the narration itself just put me off.

4 out of 5 stars for the book and story,

2 out of 5 stars for the Audio

3 stars overall

This second book in the Blademage series does not have much gamer type content and the magic system was a little confusing, but I still enjoyed listening to the audiobook. The narrator did a good job of giving the characters individual personalities and keeping you engaged. The universe the story takes place in has potential, with many different types of planets, creatures, gods and demigods, but in this book, the storyline seemed all over the place and the main character, Charlie, appeared weak and confused for much of the story. More of a fantasy tale than LitRPG, this story has dragons, pirates, magic, a mad god and some likable characters.

This is the second book in the Blademage series and it adds to the fun of the first one. Charlie Naylor continues to navigate the ways of the Gods. Learning little by little how crazy the system really is. After leaving the island he is now stranded in a different world with the God that brought him into this mess. All this time running from the Demi-Gods who are out to get everyone in the Pantheon of the Gods.
This is a fun series and this book just adds more dimension to the already enjoyable characters and settings.

So I did not read the first book, but even with the back story given I really struggled to get through this book. Fantasy is supposed to be imaginative but this one felt far fetched several times and I just couldn't get into it. On a parental warning side there is some graphic violence and language throughout. The narrator did a good job and due to his skill I did try to get into the story. This one was simply not what I was expecting from the description and ended up not being my style.

I’m sure it’s great, but no longer LitRPG

Gone are level progression, stats sheet, skill and ability tree advancement, all things RPG related and what the reader is left with is a more traditional SciFi/Semi-Fantasy Space Opera fight against the Demi-Gods unfortunately. I’m sure it will be a great story but just not the same for me so couldn’t quite get through the book.

Not as good as the first one

I really enjoyed the first book as the premise was really entertaining. This book has disappointed me a bit to be honest. Still an OK read but not as entertaining as the first one as it has added some confusing elements that I found jarring. I am looking forward to the next book to see what happens next.

Good Read.

Book 2 of the series. Gone are the RPG mechanics. Basic game info was mentioned, but no statistics are given. They could have been added, but they weren’t. I did enjoy the story, but gave a lower score due to the removal of the LitRPG info that were in Book 1 (that did say it was a LitRPG series).

Good book

Good book. Hope he gets back to leveling in the next one. The God of corn is a jerk. Thanks for the read.

Downhill from the previous book in all aspects. DNF. Probably done with this author, I've been disappointed too many times from him.

Good Read and Needs Editing

Another enjoyable read. The author does well at weaving the story together, creating empathy with the characters and reader, and moving the story along.
There are a number of edits that should have happened before publishing. Incorrect words, misspellings, verb agreements, singular-plural mismatches, etc.
Again the author uses a few gratuitous curse words for no apparent reason. These uses distract from the story...stop doing it.
