“The Green Cure” offers simple energy and mood boosting practices that integrate nature into your everyday life—even if you live or work in a big city.
For people who may be skeptical of this approach or who just like to know how things work, the author has backed each cure with extensive research. For example, I was especially interested to learn such a fascinating explanation for my lifelong affinity to running water and the increased energy I feel after visiting a bold mountain river.
I know from personal experience that many of the practices outlined in “The Green Cure” work, because over the past several months I’ve been incorporating a number of them into my own life. For example, daily exposure to fresh air, short walks around my neighborhood, forest bathing, grounding, and exposure to cold (via cold showers and a particularly cold Midwestern winter). The results have been eye-opening. I have more energy overall and I’m conscious of the fact that my mood lowers when I’ve gone a couple days without a walk or getting outside. After reading “The Green Cure,” I added a few more practices to my “to try” list.
Getting your daily dose of green via the cures outlined in this book costs nothing and requires no equipment. There’s nothing to lose by trying them—yet the potential gains are immense and life-changing.
Additionally, this book is an easy and enjoyable read. The text is well written and the author weaves in her own experiences, which I found interesting. Also, the layout and design are pleasing to the eye and enhance the reading experience.
Alice Peck's The Green Cure is filled with simple yet effective ideas to help one heal, relax and just breathe easier. From being with trees to plant therapy to simply opening a window for scents and sounds...this book is like a mini-vacation. It is also filled with intriguing, useful and important facts and stories; and beautiful photos throughout. I highly recommend The Green Cure. A great gift or get one for yourself to keep next to your nightstand. It's a treat.
Simple and easy to read. A good starting point if you want to explore the concept of Shinrinyoku. Earthing. Grounding. Then you can start your research from all the points she mentioned.
2-3 stars This book references many things I've already read or have heard of ... so nothing was really new to me, hence waffling 2-3 stars rating. It is a quick yet comprehensive read and I believe it makes a great starting point for others who are interested in learning about the healing benefits of nature.
Totally soothing, packed with common sense and inspiring information that we mostly know in our bones but have chosen to forget over time. Back to simple earthy basics, wonderful.
Alice Peck’s The Green Cure educates and empowers you to embrace the path to infinite wellness and wellbeing.
Window time, 150-min-per-week walking, shinrin-yoku, dirt therapy, gardening, sensory mediation, weather, water therapy, circadian rhythms and nature.
Kind of rejuvenating the idea of getting myself a terrarium or two. That’s unexpected déjà vu!
Succinctly written with scientific, poetic, and anecdotal context. Easy to read making you ponder and inspire you to take next actions - all in one sitting. Brilliant!
An excellent book that explains why we need the green cure - simple eats we can find calm, and lead healthier lives. Things that are important - water, greenery, nature, the sky, outdoors, waterfalls, the sea, the colour blue, following the natural rhythms of light, the moon and how it affects us.
Pretty pictures, but far too simplistic for me. If you know nothing of forest bathing or sound healing or color therapy, this would be a really great book to introduce you to all sorts of delicious holistic healing methods.
This was given to me as a Christmas present, and its the perfect book to read outside under the trees, or next to a window on a rainy day, and take the lessons with you forever. 🥰
